In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Why Is This Happening?

Watching the three figures rush toward the back mountain, Ryo shook his head in exasperation.

"Seriously, do they all think I'm some kind of demon?"

Beside him, Cynthia caught his comment and glanced at him, her lips twitching as she barely suppressed a chuckle.

"What?" Ryo shot her an annoyed look. "This isn't my fault. If they had been more respectful, would I have acted that way?"

Seeing his expression, Cynthia couldn't help but smirk.

"Oh, sure. It's totally their fault."

Ryo nearly coughed up blood in frustration.

"What's with that sarcastic tone? It really was their fault!"

Rolling his eyes, he ignored her and turned his gaze back toward the cabin entrance.

Six people had come so far, but that wasn't nearly enough.

The Chunin Exams were packed with storyline characters. He wasn't planning to let any of them slip away.

Meanwhile, in the back mountain, Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara had been exploring for a while.

They looked around at the Pokémon surrounding them, their eyes filled with awe.

"Are… are all of these Pokémon?"

Kankuro muttered in disbelief as he watched a group of cheerful Pokémon playing together.

Even Temari and Gaara, who had seen Pokémon before, were still overwhelmed by the sheer number.

Unlike the occasional encounters in the village, here in the back mountain, every few steps revealed several different species. The impact was far greater than what they had imagined.

Kankuro suddenly turned to his siblings.

"By the way, do you guys have any idea what kind of Pokémon you want to catch?"

Temari shook her head.

"I'm not sure. I'll decide after I see more options."

Gaara, however, responded coldly.

"Strong. Only a powerful Pokémon is worthy of being mine."

Despite being humbled by Ryo earlier, some of his arrogance remained.

Temari and Kankuro glanced at each other and grimaced.

Well, obviously. Who would willingly capture a weak Pokémon?

If someone did, they had to be insane.

Without further discussion, the three focused on scouting.

They advanced cautiously, keeping their eyes peeled for Pokémon.

Suddenly—

Whoosh!

A dark blur flashed past them.

Their heads snapped in its direction.

Kankuro relaxed almost immediately.

"Tch, it's just a bat."

Temari and Gaara also lowered their guard.

Temari pulled out her Pokédex and scanned the creature hanging upside down from a tree branch.

"Zubat, a Poison and Flying-type Pokémon."

Hearing that, Kankuro's eyes lit up.

"Poison-type? Wait, does that mean it can use poison attacks?"

Temari raised an eyebrow.

"Don't tell me you want to catch it?"

Even Gaara looked at him curiously.

Kankuro nodded.

"If it can use poison, then yeah. We've been walking around aimlessly, not knowing what to catch. Might as well go with a type I like."

Temari and Gaara considered his words and nodded.

It made sense. They didn't have the knowledge to determine which Pokémon were objectively strong, so picking based on preferred types wasn't a bad strategy.

Kankuro didn't hesitate.

He pulled out some energy cubes and held them up toward Zubat.

"Hey, you want some food?"

Zubat turned its head, its curious eyes locking onto the treat in Kankuro's hand.

Its eyes gleamed, but it remained cautious, studying Kankuro before making a move.

Kankuro, noticing its hesitation, chuckled.

"Go on, it's all yours."

After a moment, Zubat finally swooped down and landed in front of him.

Seeing it up close, Kankuro grinned and gently patted its head.

"Here, enjoy."

Zubat let out a pleased noise and eagerly devoured the energy cube.

Temari watched the interaction and smiled softly.

Even Gaara's icy expression seemed to thaw slightly.

After Zubat finished eating, Kankuro took a deep breath.

"Zubat, want to come with me? Let's get stronger together."

Zubat hesitated for only a second before nodding.

Kankuro clenched his fist in excitement.

"Yes! Awesome!"

Temari and Gaara exchanged amused looks, but deep down, they were relieved.

Initially, they had worried that capturing Pokémon would be extremely difficult, but seeing how naturally Zubat agreed eased their concerns.

Encouraged by Kankuro's success, they continued exploring.

It wasn't long before Temari encountered another Pokémon.

Under her gentle gaze and warm smile, the Pokémon quickly agreed to join her.

However, Gaara wasn't so lucky.

No matter how many Pokémon he approached, they all refused to follow him.

Even when he tried offering food, they remained wary, keeping their distance.

After repeated failures, frustration started creeping onto his face.

Kankuro sighed.

"Ugh. What's going on here?"

Temari frowned as well.

She couldn't understand why things were so different for Gaara.

Why was it that she and Kankuro could bond with Pokémon so easily, yet every single one Gaara approached rejected him outright?

Gaara's expression darkened, his patience wearing thin.

He snorted coldly and turned to his siblings.

"Enough. Let's go. Whether or not I have a Pokémon makes no difference. Only weaklings need one."

Temari and Kankuro grimaced.

They knew Gaara was just covering up his disappointment.

"Come on, Gaara," Temari coaxed. "Let's try a little longer. Maybe those Pokémon just didn't want to leave their home."

"Yeah," Kankuro chimed in. "We should keep looking."

Gaara's gaze turned icy.

"No. We're leaving. Now."

Seeing the finality in his eyes, Temari and Kankuro sighed in defeat.

What else could they do?

If Gaara had made up his mind, forcing him to stay would only make things worse.

However, just as they were about to turn back—

A rustling sound echoed from the shadows.

"Krrraaa—"
