Chapter 104: Chapter 104: The Platinum Treasure Chest
Hearing the sound, the group that was about to leave turned their gaze toward it.
Behind a nearby tree, a winged scorpion-like creature peeked out curiously at them.
"Hmm?"
Temari frowned slightly and pulled out her Pokédex, scanning the creature.
"Gliscor? A Ground and Flying-type Pokémon?"
"Wait a second… It looks like it's staring at Gaara," Kankuro suddenly noticed, his voice tinged with surprise.
Temari, upon hearing that, examined the situation more closely and was equally surprised.
Indeed, the Gliscor was staring straight at Gaara.
Gaara, hearing his name, also shifted his gaze toward the Pokémon.
The moment their eyes met, the Gliscor remained still, unfazed.
Without hesitation, Gaara walked forward and stopped in front of it.
Unlike the Pokémon he had encountered earlier—ones that immediately fled the moment he approached—this Gliscor showed no fear at all.
A small smile crept onto Gaara's lips.
It was his first time encountering a Pokémon that didn't instinctively reject him.
"Gliscor, is it? Come with me. Together, we'll grow stronger."
As soon as those words left Gaara's mouth, both Temari and Kankuro twitched.
Their gazes turned oddly skeptical.
"Seriously? Who recruits a Pokémon like that?"
But—
"Krrraaa!"
To their astonishment, the Gliscor nodded, agreeing to Gaara's invitation.
Temari and Kankuro nearly lost it.
"What the hell?! That actually worked?!"
Gaara's smile deepened as he retrieved a Poké Ball and captured the Gliscor without issue.
Standing up, he glanced at his stunned siblings and coldly asked,
"What? Are you two planning to stay here all day?"
The two quickly snapped out of their shock, nodded, and followed him down the mountain.
However, they couldn't shake their disbelief.
It was the first time they had ever seen Gaara smile.
And honestly…
It wasn't bad at all.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Ryo watched another group of ninja enter the back mountain before leisurely reclining on the sofa.
He turned toward Cynthia and remarked,
"That should be about it. I doubt anyone else will show up today."
Given the time, it would be nearly impossible for latecomers to find and catch a Pokémon before nightfall.
"Phew—"
Cynthia exhaled softly, relieved.
"Alright then, Ryo. You handle the shop—I'm heading to the backyard."
She casually grabbed an ice cream from the fridge and sauntered off without a second thought.
Ryo's face twitched violently.
"Excuse me? Who's the boss here? Who's the employee?"
Just then, Temari and the others returned.
"Boss, we're back."
Hearing them, Ryo put aside his annoyance and glanced over.
"How'd it go? Did everyone manage to catch a Pokémon?"
Temari smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, thanks a lot, boss."
Ryo waved dismissively.
"No need to thank me."
"By the way, boss," Kankuro chimed in. "We need to buy some energy cubes. Can you teach us how to use them properly?"
Ryo nodded and went over the details.
As they listened, their expressions grew more and more astonished.
They could hardly believe what they were hearing.
Ryo, having seen this reaction before, merely smirked.
"That's the gist of it. Buy as much as you think you'll need. Just a tip—don't stock up too much on low-level cubes. Once your Pokémon reaches level 10, mid-tier cubes will be more effective."
The trio exchanged glances before Temari spoke up.
"In that case, we'll take two packs of low-level cubes each, five packs of mid-level cubes, and ten packs of high-level ones."
Ryo raised an eyebrow.
"You sure you need that much?"
"That amount could last them half a year."
Temari nodded.
"Yeah. Your shop is in Konoha—we won't always have the chance to buy more."
Ryo thought for a moment before shrugging.
"Fair enough. But don't worry, even though my shop is only in Konoha for now, eventually, I'll open branches in every ninja village."
The trio's eyes widened in surprise.
"Boss, are you serious? You're planning to open a store in our village too?"
Seeing their hopeful expressions, Ryo felt like he'd just given away too much information.
He shot Temari a glare before responding in an exasperated tone.
"Yeah, eventually. But not anytime soon."
Temari chuckled sheepishly.
"Well, boss, if you do expand, please consider setting up a shop in Sunagakure first."
Ryo didn't answer, instead shifting the topic.
"Enough about that. Let me grab your energy cubes."
Seeing him avoid the question, Temari sighed but didn't push further.
Soon, Ryo handed them their supplies, and after thanking him, they departed.
Left alone, Ryo slumped back onto the couch and murmured to himself.
"Three more treasure chests… If today's customers did well, I should be able to synthesize a Platinum Chest by tonight."
The mere thought made his heart race with excitement.
Golden chests already had incredible rewards like Dragonite, Gardevoir, and Diancie.
A Platinum Chest?
Now that was worth getting excited about.
As time passed, the remaining customers returned from the back mountain.
Some were elated from successfully catching Pokémon.
Others looked dejected from failing.
But overall, the number of successful captures was significantly higher.
Strangely enough, Ryo noticed that storyline characters had a much higher success rate compared to regular ninja.
While there were occasional failures among them, they were rare.
Meanwhile, for non-storyline characters, the success rate was abysmally low—probably less than fifty percent.
Then—
『You have assigned a Pokémon to a storyline character. Reward: 1000 points, 1 Bronze Exclusive Chest!』
Hearing the system's notification, Ryo glanced at the last customer leaving the shop.
His heart pounded in anticipation.
"Yes! Just enough to synthesize a Platinum Chest!"
Just as he was about to check his inventory—
"Ryo, dinner's ready."
Hearing Gardevoir's voice, Ryo sighed and calmed himself down.
"Alright, coming," he called back, heading toward the backyard.
