In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 106: Chapter 106: James' Kick

This was the foundation of his safety—how could he not be excited?

"But I never expected that mysterious fruits would have an origin fruit variant."

This was something Ryo had never considered before.

He had always assumed that mysterious fruits could only enhance Pokémon up to level 60 and that any further growth would have to come from training.

"But this is an origin fruit—it's not something that can be easily drawn. Even a Platinum Chest only produced one."

Just thinking about it made Ryo's scalp tingle.

A single origin fruit from a Platinum Chest? That was rare beyond belief.

Shaking his head, he decided to stop overthinking it. He stored the origin fruit away and moved his gaze toward the next item.

What he saw next was something very familiar—a Master Ball.

Ryo barely paid it any attention and moved on.

With Hoopa already out, there wasn't much to get excited about when it came to a Master Ball.

He already had more than a dozen of them—he was honestly getting sick of seeing them.

Skipping the Poké Ball, Ryo picked up two stones that looked rather ordinary.

"Ugh, why is it Mewtwo's Mega Stones? If only it had been Diancie's! Or at the very least, Gardevoir's!"

He truly didn't know what to say.

On one hand, his luck wasn't bad—he had drawn plenty of amazing items.

But on the other hand, some of them were completely useless to him at the moment.

"Whatever, I'll just store them with the Red Orb. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll actually get Mewtwo."

Sighing to himself, he moved on to the last item.

A green energy mass floated in the air before him.

It occasionally emitted a strange, unique energy—just looking at it made it clear that this was no ordinary thing.

Ryo's eyes trembled as he gazed at it, his hands shaking slightly with barely contained excitement.

Even from just the description, he could tell—

This thing was ridiculously overpowered.

Yes, overpowered, completely unreasonable in its power.

It could ignore standard evolution rules and force a Pokémon to evolve.

And the best part?

No drawbacks. It wouldn't harm the Pokémon in any way.

This was absurdly broken—a power that defied the natural order itself.

"I always thought that 'James' Kick' was just a meme from the anime… but the system actually turned it into a real ability?!"

He couldn't help but feel amazed.

Staring at the glowing energy, his thoughts drifted.

Then he shook his head and snapped back to reality.

『System, how do I use James' Kick?』

He couldn't see or touch the energy—it was just floating there.

『Host, would you like to fuse with James' Kick?』

"Fuse? Yes! Do it now!"

Ryo practically shouted in excitement, his face full of anticipation.

As soon as he spoke, the energy mass seemed to come alive, surging toward his legs.

He watched in shock as it merged into him.

『System, wait—are you telling me that I can literally kick Pokémon to make them evolve?!』

『Correct, host. Upon fusion, you will gain the ability to trigger Pokémon evolution by kicking them.』

Ryo's mouth twitched.

What the hell?

He had assumed this would be some kind of consumable item.

Even after seeing that it was an energy mass, he still thought it might turn into a special tool.

Never—not in a million years—had he expected this to turn him into a real-life James from Team Rocket.

Suddenly, an absurd thought crossed his mind.

Would trainers start lining up at his door, paying him to kick their Pokémon into evolution?

The mere image of it made his lips twitch uncontrollably.

Why did it feel like the entire tone of the story had just shifted?

『Fusion complete. Host has obtained James' Kick.』

The system's voice brought him back to reality.

Ryo stomped his foot experimentally, then frowned.

"System, are you sure this fused? I don't feel any different."

With his near-Kage-level mental power, he should have been able to sense even the slightest change in his body.

『Host, James' Kick only grants you the ability to trigger evolution. It does not enhance your personal strength.』

Hearing that, Ryo nodded in understanding.

Well, as long as it worked.

"Ryo, what was that just now? Hoopa is curious."

Just then, Hoopa, who had been watching the fusion process, spoke up.

Ryo glanced over.

"Hoopa, you couldn't sense that energy?"

Even though Hoopa was in its Confined Form, once unsealed, it could rival Legendary Pokémon.

Shouldn't it at least sense that something happened?

Hoopa shook its head.

"Hoopa felt nothing. Hoopa has never seen that kind of energy before."

Ryo was stunned for a moment.

Even Hoopa couldn't perceive it?

Then again, thinking about it, it made sense.

James' Kick was a power that ignored the rules of evolution.

Even Legendary Pokémon, for all their might, still operated within those rules.

From that perspective, it was logical that Hoopa couldn't sense it.

Realizing this, Ryo felt an even deeper appreciation for just how broken James' Kick really was.

"It's nothing—just an interesting ability."

Hoopa nodded.

"Okay! Hoopa understands!"

"Aaahh…"

Ryo yawned, stretching. He grabbed Hoopa's Poké Ball.

"Hoopa, do you want to rest inside your Poké Ball?"

Hoopa immediately floated back and shook its head.

"Hoopa doesn't want to! Hoopa hates being inside that tiny space! Hoopa doesn't like Poké Balls!"

Ryo sighed.

Even Master Balls weren't good enough for Hoopa?

Shaking his head, he relented.

"Alright, but we should get some rest. You need to sleep too."

Hoopa blinked and then nodded.

"Okay! Hoopa will sleep with you! Hoopa wants to sleep on the bed too!"

Ryo didn't argue.

He moved Cynthia's Garchomp's Poké Ball and its Mega Evolution set to the side, making a mental note:

"I'll give these to Cynthia tomorrow—it'll be a nice surprise for her."

With that, he lay down, tucked in Hoopa, and pulled out his Mental Power Fruits to continue training.
