Chapter 74: Ch 74. Tsunade in the Land of Lightning I

In the Land of Lightning, an unfamiliar traveler moved discreetly through the terrain, none other than Senju Tsunade. She had covertly entered the country from the coastal border near the Land of Snow, slipping past unnoticed with Kurama's sensory ability which allowed her to avoid all monitoring.

Initially, she had been enjoying a period of leisure in the Land of Hot Springs, a favored retreat for those seeking relaxation. However, her curiosity was piqued by an unusual surge of activity in the region, particularly near the trade routes leading to the Land of Snow.

As the primary hub for material transfer and trade, the Land of Snow maintained a constant flow of goods and resources. However, access remained restricted to select business partners, and only high-level trade agreements were conducted within its borders. Most merchants and trade groups operating there hailed from the Land of Lightning. The region's natural seclusion, coupled with its harsh climate, made it unwelcoming to outsiders, ensuring that information remained exclusive.

Consequently, the neighboring Land of Hot Springs had become a vital commercial crossroads. It served as a meeting ground for those who sought to capitalize on market shifts, attracting ambitious traders eager to seize opportunities before they reached broader circulation. The area's renowned hot springs, traditional inns or ryokans provided the perfect backdrop for business negotiations, making it a bustling hub for commerce.

Kumogakure, recognizing the strategic value of the region, had established a strong presence there. With theaters in the area now screening films produced in the Land of Lightning, marking a growing influence of Lightning-based entertainment subtly. Large casinos, high-end establishments, and various specialized shops catered to both traders and travelers, adding to the allure of the region. It was in this lively and evolving landscape that Tsunade found herself, drawn by the shifting tides of commerce and power.

Of course, Tsunade's main reason for being here was the casinos. Gambling was a vice she could never quite shake, and the Land of Hot Springs provided ample opportunities for indulgence. However, as she moved from one establishment to another; whether it was a casino, a theater, or even a high-end restaurant, she couldn't ignore the peculiar attention she was receiving. It wasn't the lecherous gaze of passing people, nor the hostile stares of bounty hunters lurking in the shadows of the black market. As a Sannin and a descendant of the Senju Clan, she was well aware that her name carried weight, and various intelligence networks often monitored her movements. Yet, this was different.

This time, it felt like an entire network of individuals was subtly gathering information on her. It wasn't just the usual agents from different villages, this was far more systematic. The more she observed, the more she noticed a pattern: those watching her were primarily associated with the newer establishments. These were Kumogakure-owned businesses like casinos, theaters, and even restaurants. Intrigued, she decided to quietly investigate.

Typically, intelligence gathering relied on hidden agents, informants, and even discreetly placed cameras. Even if someone found it out, to civilians it would be dismissed as basic surveillance for security in their establishments, so that while customers are there no one steals their stuff. Of course, this explanation was only for those who even understood that they were being watched, as these cameras placed in ceiling corners were covered by one-way glasses, and ninjas could not sense them. But Tsunade, accompanied by Kurama's senses, could feel that she was being monitored at an unusual level, by those behind the camera, despite not knowing the existence of the security cameras, she could feel the observation by those who were monitoring her using it, which was not unusually but she found a pattern in these establishments, the unknown way of observation allowed her to categorize these establishments.

Following her instincts, she started probing deeper. She eventually uncovered hidden rooms within these establishments, though she couldn't gain direct access to them. Her findings suggested that Kumogakure had implemented a highly advanced identification system, one that had already moved beyond the standard password, sensing, and even seals used by other nations.

While most places in Kumogakure required physical identification such as IDs, certain high-security zones even employed chakra-based verification, ensuring that only authorized individuals could enter.

For these Ron made these security measures even more sophisticated than human sensing. His verification system didn't just check chakra signatures, it analyzed the unique spiritual signature embedded within one's chakra. This was a countermeasure against techniques like White Zetsu's replication abilities, which could mimic chakra patterns, as well as potential unknown threats. It ensured that no imposter, no matter how skilled, could bypass and get important information.

For these intelligence establishments, agents used physical IDs in addition to fingerprint scanners and also passwords, but even these were more than just ordinary. The technology behind them was something only a handful of researchers, those working under Ron's guidance, truly understood. If the security had been purely chakra-based, seal-based, or hidden-password dependent, experienced ninja could have devised ways to bypass them. But in this case, the system was far more intricate, making unauthorized entry nearly impossible, so to get in someone would need to steal the ID know the password, and steal someone's thumb, but inside the establishments, agents had devices on them, that would alert others if they were attacked, or suddenly passed out or died.

Tsunade wasn't interested in killing people, so Tsunade refrained from attempting to infiltrate these hidden rooms. Instead, she shifted her approach, watching and studying the individuals who frequented these places.

One evening, while using a small clone of Katsuya to eavesdrop on a group of businessmen from the Land of Lightning in a private lounge, she overheard an interesting conversation.

One of the men, already tipsy from drinking, sighed and lamented, "The casinos here are great, and the food's fantastic, but I miss watching sports while drinking a cold beer at a pub. And those entertainment shows on TV! That I would watch with my wife and children, too bad, only neutral movies, the ones that portray the outside world, are only allowed to be sold outside the Land of Lightning. It's kind of boring, don't you think?"

Another man nodded in agreement, his voice lowered slightly. "Yeah, I get what you mean. The movies, the casinos, everything outside the Land of Lightning feels a little... underwhelming and outdated. You know, in Kumogakure and the capital's grand casinos, they have hundreds of games and machines, so much variety, so much fun! But let's not talk too much about life inside Kumogakure. You know it's banned to reveal information."

Tsunade immediately sensed they weren't fabricating any of this. Kurama, with his sharp senses, could tell as well. These men were speaking freely, but cautiously, revealing just enough without crossing a line.

The more she listened, the more intrigued she became. She had always been a gambler, but now, Kurama had a newfound love of food and entertainment was equally invested. The mention of exclusive, restricted entertainment, coupled with the fact about grand casinos, had taken an interest in her, setting off a deep curiosity in both of them.

And then, there was something else about her grandmother's old words about the Land of Lightning. The place had remained closed off, shrouded in mystery.

That sealed her decision.

With newfound excitement, Tsunade and Kurama were now roaring with interest. And that was how Tsunade found herself roaming through the Land of Lightning,
