Chapter 480: City Guard Captain Guan
"W-What is it, you weirdo…?" Su Yu asked after not being able to take Necro's obliviously intense stare anymore.
"Are you alright?" Necro answered with a question.
Su Yu paused.
Her big bright eyes gradually met with Necro's. She stared into those indescribable globes, unable to tell what he was thinking at that moment.
Even so, she could feel his sincerity and trepidation.
Smiling dazzlingly, Su Yu bobbed her head. "I'm okay!"
Necro kept on staring at her.
The atmosphere instantly became awkward.
"You're lying," he said. "You're hurt. I know human anatomy to a certain degree, as I studied it. Therefore, I'm aware that bruising is not bereft of pain."
"Tell me, human girl, why did you lie?"
Silence…
"...Necro…" Su Yu's face darkened.
"Yes?"
Su Yu jerked her head up, a pair of puffed-up cheeks jump-scaring Necro. "You're such a big dummy!!"
She then ran off to who knew where, completely forgetting that he was the one holding all the things she purchased.
"...I don't understand… Did I say something wrong…?"
Necro was still as confused as ever about the emotions of humans—even more so about females and how they could possibly get anything done with such lackluster communication skills.
Suddenly!
*WhiZzzZzz—!*
Necro's reflexes reacted near-instantaneously. He slid to the left, his hand reaching out and grabbing hold of a whistling object with a sharp-tipped end.
"Shit, that didn't get him!"
Hearing a frantic voice, Necro crept his head around to face the dozens of unsavory characters. The scary glow in his eyes sent chills through the spines of all the Underworld Members—they wanted to run away.
But they decided that far too late.
"Ah yes, I briefly forgot about you worms." Necro blurred. "I do hope that you'll forgive me."
SHA!
His arms morphed into woody, crystallized blades, and in several lightning-quick strokes, he blitzed around every single Underworld Member. Blood then rained as heads sailed.
"NOOoooo…."
*Ding!*
[You have drained the Lifespan of dozens of Cultivators ranging from the Body Refinement Realm to the 7th Layer of Qi Condensation!]
[Lifespan +6,827]
"Not bad." Necro's pleased voice echoed out like the symphony of the God of Death as he was showered in the blood of the dredges of River Mountain City.
With his Nature Sense, he knew right away that none of them were innocent. All savages. Undeserving of mercy or reservations.
"Better off being converted into my strength."
While in the middle of looting all the headless corpses scattered about, Necro turned his head up and saw shiny figures running over. They were all heavily protected and wore aggressive expressions.
"Who dares create trouble in River Mountain City!?" City Guard Captain Guan thundered. "Do you have a death wish!??"
Necro stood up, a listless look plastered across his adorably handsome face.
He seemed like he was prepared to fight.
The arriving guards tensed up at the eerie sight of a young boy covered in blood, staring them down like slabs of meat. They placed their hands on the handles of their swords, ready to attack at the drop of a hat.
However…
*Thud…*
Necro anticlimactically fell to his knees and raised his hands. He did so all while wearing a very inexpressive expression, confusing the City Guards.
"Is he tricking us??" one of them questioned while wearily keeping his distance from the blood-covered boy. "What should we do, Captain?"
The City Guard Captain—a 10th Layer Qi Condensation Realm Expert—looked around the bloody scene. He recognized a few of the separated heads, pretty quickly realizing that the only ones who died were the scums of society who harmed the lives of many.
'However, even if I wished I could've done what this boy did myself, there is the law and rules,' thought the Guard Captain.
He raised his hand, circling it in the air. "Two of you, go over and cuff the perpetrator. He's already complying, so stop being so cowardly," he said. "As for the rest of you, get into contact with the sanitary branch and have them clean this place up."
"Yes, sir!"
Not long later—
*Scuffle, scuffle…*
Su Yu just now returned to where she left Necro. She tried to be discreet, ensuring that she wasn't found out.
"I didn't mean to leave that dummy alone with those rude bastards…" she murmured as she peeked around a corner. "I hope he's fine—…"
"No touchy." Necro's voice sounded as he nudged away a hand attempting to snatch his Storage Rings. "Is mine."
Su Yu was dumbfounded.
"Don't worry," said the City Guard Captain, his view of Necro clearly a favorable one. "Nobody will take your things. We just need to temporarily hold on to them."
Necro seriously contemplated this matter.
Ultimately, he gave in and resistantly parted with his Storage Rings.
'I must follow the customary way of hoomans…' Necro consoled himself. 'Only that way can I blend in and conquer…'
That was why he gave himself up as soon as the authorities arrived. It was something he learned in a book and felt like the right thing to do in the moment.
"Necro, he… He'll be alright, won't he…?"
Although Su Yu told herself everything would work out fine, her worry was overwhelming. She eventually ran off in the direction of the Mayor's multi-storied penthouse in the Inner City, planning to ask for the Mayor's assistance.
However, if Su Yu saw the current situation of the one whom she was attempting to save, she'd surely bite and claw at him for making her worry…
"Sorry for that back there, young friend Necro," the City Guard Captain said with a flattering voice. "But as public workers, we have to first and foremost make sure the public is satisfied. You killed people in the open, which is bad for public view."
"But that's just business talk," the City Guard Captain laughed. "In actuality, you did all of us here at the City Guard Barracks a favor and saved us a lot of trouble rounding up one of the most troublesome Underworld Bosses in the city. In fact—and though it may be embarrassing—we're actually hoping you can help us with something."
Su Yu never would've expected a plot twist like this one.
And neither had Necro, as evident by the bewilderment smeared across his face.
