Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 481: Request From The City Guard

"...Help you…?" Necro repeated. "You're not going to cage me up like them?" He pointed to the prisoners in the cells around them.

"Of course not, haha!" the City Guard Captain replied. "You're a talented genius that accompanied the 6th Young Lady of the Blue Legion Family into the city. And though you've stirred up a bit of trouble, there's nothing we could do to you if you decided you wanted to walk out of here right now. On the contrary, we want to offer you an opportunity."

"An opportunity?" asked Necro. "Related to that help you requested?"

"Yes," said the City Guard Captain. "You see, there are forces within this city that we can't easily handle. And because of that, the people are suffering more and more with each passing day—whether because of the circulation of drugs, forced prostitution, or any number of other despicable means meant to make a profit."

"And you want me to deal with them?" Necro asked for clarification, to which the City Guard Captain nodded.

"Although you may be young, you're undoubtedly a supreme genius," the City Guard Captain added. "Not to mention that you're somehow related to the 6th Young Lady and you possess a killing intent that makes you well-suited for the job. All in all, you're probably the only one we can ask for help."

"Even with me only being in the Body Refinement Realm?"

Necro wasn't understanding. From what he knew of this world, they took the level of your cultivation very seriously, and would often decide your value based solely on how high your cultivation was.

For this City Guard Captain to be so adamant about requesting his assistance knowing that he wasn't even of the Qi Condensation Realm… it was a little suspicious to say the least.

"Normally, what you're thinking would be the case," the City Guard Captain explained. "However, dire times call for dire measures. Moreover, you being in the Body Refinement Realm and yet so powerful makes it so that your targets will be less likely to react in response to your arrival, for you will be naturally underestimated."

Necro's brows furrowed in deep thought. He comprehended all of what was said, and it made sense.

Even so, if not for his relationship with Su Yu, he might very well be sitting inside a cell right now, regardless of whether he was strong or not. This 'opportunity' also never would've been offered to him.

'Connections are important in the human world… Noted…'

"So, how about it?" the City Guard Captain smiled from ear to ear. "Do you want to accept a job? I promise the reward for helping out will be well worth your while."

Necro was finished deliberating the matter. He turned his head up, and with a hint of icy killing intent, said, "I'll do it."

Even the City Guard Captain himself was surprised by that terrifying look in the young boy's eyes. It was as if the incarnation of death itself was staring at him. Utterly hair-raising.

But that didn't stop the Captain from extending a hand and saying, "I'm glad to have you on the job, young friend Necro!"

Necro slightly nodded while reciprocating the handshake.

Just as the terms of cooperation were being finalized, a door suddenly opened.

The City Guard Captain's smile turned into a frown. He was threatening the intruder with his menacing pair of eyes, conveying something along the lines of 'You better have a good reason for being here'.

And as it so turned out, the reason was well worth the disrespect.

"I apologize for the intrusion, Captain, but the Mayor is here to meet you!!"

"???"

"...The Mayor is here…?" The City Guard Captain's frown deepened. "But why—..."

That was when he realized who he was sitting next to in his office.

"So it's because of you," he said, before bursting out in laughter. "It would appear that I've underestimated how far that girl would go for you, young friend Necro!"

Necro wasn't following.

However, before he had the chance to ask for clarification, the heartily laughing City Guard Captain rose from his seat and left the room. He went to go and explain things to the Mayor.

Not long later, he returned. His smile was still broad as he motioned to the door. "Someone is impatiently waiting for your presence out there. I'd hurry along if I were you."

"And our deal?" Necro asked as he confusedly walked toward the door.

"It hasn't changed," replied the City Guard Captain. "I'll be contacting you within the next few days. You'll receive all the details pertaining to what I'm asking you to do, including the reward that you'll get for successfully completing the task."

Necro's silent departure was response enough for the Captain, urging forth another peal of hearty laughter.

Necro, meanwhile, had just closed the office door behind him when a girl not much shorter than himself stormed over to him. Her pouting was extremely prominent and entailing as she leaned up on her tippy toes, meeting Necro eye-to-eye.

"You made me worry for nothing, you big dummy!" Su Yu pounded his chest, venting her grievances. "Do you have any idea how…"

"How what?" asked Necro, accepting her beatings without complaint.

"N-Nothing, you i-idiot…!" Su Yu shouted while turning redder than a tomato, her long twin tails furiously swinging around. "Let's just go already!"

Even though Necro was puzzled by her strange behavior, he nonetheless complied with her demands. On their way out of the Barracks, she had him snatch up all the stuff she bought as well as his Storage Rings.

They passed by the River Mountain City Mayor, receiving a brief farewell.

The Mayor watched as the two kiddos left the Barracks. Sometime during this, the City Guard Captain appeared beside the relatively corpulent Mayor. They were looking in the same direction, each aware of the other's existence.

"To think there'd come a day when the stubborn and tyrannical 6th Young Lady would meet someone that would make her go so far in order to save him," the Mayor commented in a whimsical tone. "It feels quite surreal."

"Indeed," the City Guard Captain agreed. "But that young boy—he's anything but normal. It's not totally unbelievable that someone like him would be able to affect the 6th Young Lady this much."

"Oh?" The Mayor arched a brow. "I see that you think quite highly of the boy."

"The only reason you don't is because you've yet to see 'that' part of him," replied the City Guard Captain as his expression became unusually serious. "I don't know what he is, but it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if he revealed himself to be a monster in human skin."

"!?!?"

"A monster in human skin??" The Mayor nearly took the Guard Captain seriously for a second there. "Surely you jest. We both know that only Immortal-level Monsters can transform their shapes to appear more like humans."

"Yes… I know that of course…" the City Guard Captain muttered. "But… that child, he's simply… too scary to be human…"

The Mayor observed the Guard Captain's trembling lips and flickering pupils. His eyebrows slightly raised as he shot his head back to the receding pair of children walking and squabbling off into the distance.

"!!!"
