Chapter 493: A Battle Between Man and Dragon
From the depths of the huge volcano, a deafening primal roar thundered outward. What followed was the appearance of the rest of the demonic reptilian monster as it crawled out of the abyss, bellowing to the heavens like a true God of the skies.
"We're doomed! There's no one left to save us!!"
Fear etched itself into the hearts of everyone in Magnashore as they watched large balls of fire and molten material shoot out of the volcano. The dragon perched itself in the very center of the destruction, its slitted, sinuous eyes gazing down on the ant-like humans scrambling below.
Suddenly—
FWIP!
The dragon sensed danger. But by the time it locked onto the cause, a small figure had already sat himself down on its head.
"So what are we looking at?" Necro asked. His right arm was raised above his head, his clenched fist freezing all of the raining balls of volcanic fire in place.
"HUmaaN!?" The dragon's archaic voice came out distorted and confused. It hadn't even felt the human move!
"Hmm?" Necro revealed an amused expression, fishing rod in hand. "You can actually somewhat speak the language of humans. As expected of a True Dragon. However, it is a bit unfortunate that you're only in the 1st Layer of the Golden Core Realm; your Lifespan must be very limited."
{[Infant True Fire Dragon]}
[Lifespan: 12/208,760]
[Cultivation: Golden Core (1st Layer)]
"Still, the Lifespan of a True Dragon is extremely large, huh?" Necro rubbed his chin in thought, easily resisting the beast's attempts at shaking him off. "Your strength is also very impressive. Most Early Golden Core powerhouses would die the moment they faced you, with even Mid Golden Core Experts barely a challenge. If only you were older and more experienced; I wouldn't stand a chance against you."
"ROOAARGHHH!!!" The True Fire Dragon roared, sending city-destroying earthquakes throughout Magnashore.
But before those devastating earthquakes could affect any of the terrified commonfolk, Necro's legs transformed. His Minor Willow Dryad body locked down the True Fire Dragon, covered the damage done to the volcano, and prevented the earthquakes from spreading any further.
"You see," said Necro, his upper half still human-like. "After upgrading some of my Evolution Tree components to Level 5, my actual form's size increased to a few miles. Another interesting thing is my appearance, which now looks to be of an 11 to 12-year-old."
The True Fire Dragon didn't seem to care the least bit about what the human-tree hybrid was saying. It thrashed around, gradually breaking out of the Level 5 Roots entrapping him. Searing-hot flames erupted, speeding up the deterioration of the Roots.
Necro frowned. The raw power of a True Fire Dragon had gone beyond his expectations.
"I should get a bit more serious." His voice cooled, and so too did his childish expression. He set down the fireballs he had been holding up, only leaving his Roots to limit the damage to the surroundings.
WAAA!
The True Fire Dragon broke out of the Root entrapment. Its wings spread out as it roared to the heavens, forcing the fleeing mortals and low-level cultivators to close their ears.
"You really are a strong one," Necro remarked, completely unaffected by the power-infused roar. "You're just the being I've been searching for. So why don't we see just how much I can unleash before you break."
Suddenly—
|Frost-burn Aura|
"!!!"
The True Fire Dragon's eyes bulged as it witnessed the explosion of fire and ice elements. Necro's power soared, his aura undulating above him for thousands of meters.
"Funnily enough, I picked up this Aura after slaughtering a family of Half-blooded Ice Sovereign Wyrms in the Eastern Tundra Dunes Mountain Range."
Necro spoke in a relaxed manner, acting as if he weren't facing an actual living myth. By now, the fleeing commoners noticed something unusual, as the air started to cool down.
The temperature was… decreasing?
"W-What's going on??" They exchanged looks between one another. It didn't take long for them to stop in their tracks and turn around, only to shockingly realize that someone was… fighting the dragon.
"Is he insane!?" someone exclaimed. "That's a True Dragon!! Only the pinnacle experts of the Skyriser Kingdom can face something like that!"
The reactions of the other deserters were pretty similar, as none of them could believe that there was actually someone so crazy. He even had the audacity to sit on the dragon's head!
A lunatic!!
But that was when someone offered a differing opinion. "Guys… Doesn't it kinda seem like the True Dragon is hesitating to attack that guy…?"
"Now that you mention it, the aura coming off of the guy is… Well, doesn't it feel extremely powerful??"
Hope. This value, quantified from desperation, appeared in the hearts of countless. When they saw how a single person challenged the King of Ancient Beasts, they started to believe there to be a chance. A chance of victory.
That was when the cheers began to sound out.
"You can do it!!"
"Win!! Save us all, Mr. Savior!!"
"Us Humans will always persevere!!!"
Necro peeked over at the now-stopped commonfolk. He could hear what they were saying, even from so far away, but he didn't put much thought into it.
They were cheering in the name of Humanity. He, however, was no human.
"Say, Dragon." Necro returned his piercing gaze to the huge, menacing, overgrown lizard. "Is this really your limit? I haven't even warmed up yet, and you look to already be giving up. Where's your draconic pride?"
The True Fire Dragon was stunned silent. That's right—it was a dragon! The fiercest and most respected beast of the Heavens!!
Why should it, a dragon, be cowering before a mere human!?
How disgraceful!!!
"ROOOAARGHHH!!!"
The True Fire Dragon unleashed its true Innate Bloodline Power. The whole world felt like it would collapse at any moment, with even average Mid Golden Core Realm Masters standing no chance against this ancient monster.
Necro's lips thinned, before abruptly lifting into an excitement-craving smirk.
