Chapter 494: Dragon Slayer, Aimless Ancestor
"I wasn't wrong about you, dragon," Necro said, jumping off of its head and sprouting a set of four demonic wings. "I'll let loose a little more now."
Down in Magnashore, the burly man who existed as the sole survivor of the Dragon Slaying Quest mindlessly mumbled to himself. "There's no way anyone… anyone can beat that monster… No way… N-No way… N-No way!!"
The screws in his mind once again rocked out of place, putting him into a crazed screaming state. He hadn't run away earlier either, so he was making a big scene while slowly dying from all the burns he'd incurred from the initial arrival of the Dragon.
Yet, even after he keeled over and collapsed, he still kept his eyes open. It was only because of this stubborn unwillingness that he was able to witness something utterly… mind-boggling.
Solar Flare Aura
Embercore Aura
Stone Tyrant Aura
Rapture Bloom…
One by one, Necro activated the Auras he'd collected from Limit-evolved Bloodlines assimilated over the last few weeks. The sheer number of Monsters he had slain was staggering—many of whom were of the same racial category.
The result of all this farming?
RUMBLE!!
For the first time in the True Fire Dragon's short life, it felt… fear. True Fear.
Necro's Aura extended to the heavens. A mixture of Elements that shouldn't have been possible to use in conjunction were somehow seamlessly fused into one.
The millions of spectators had their jaws go slack. Even the City Castellan and various Foundation Establishment Realm Cultivators couldn't believe their eyes.
"An aura larger than a city… So this is strength…"
There were a fortunate few among the crowd who gained inspiration from this awe-inspiring sight. The luckier of them even felt breakthroughs approaching, urging them to sit down in meditative thought.
"Is this as much as you can handle?" Necro had over 40 Auras in his collection. He had only activated 25 of them, yet the True Fire Dragon was already pressed down into the volcano, unable to come out using its own strength.
"Well, I suppose this is still quite good," he sighed. "After all, many of my Auras were acquired from Monsters with Rank 4 Bloodlines. Although yours is probably around Rank 7—far higher than even the Bloodline of a Demon King—you haven't had enough time to familiarize yourself with it. Your lack of combat ability makes sense."
"Anywho." Necro raised an arm, condensing a small multi-colored ball of energy as he activated the rest of his Auras to amplify the power. "Unfortunately for you, I won't be allowing you to live to see a day where you unlock the true potential of your Bloodline."
"!!!"
The True Fire Dragon tried to fight what was going to happen, but it was already being crushed to the point of its scales bending and snapping off. It was helpless in the face of this Anomaly's unexplainable power.
Was it not the King of Ancient Beasts?? Why could it not even resist the power of a single human freak!?
It didn't make any sense—
FWOOOOM!
BZZIIIII—NGGG!
An eardrum-rupturing sound cut through the atmosphere, followed by the imploding of the volcano. A line of plasma sliced through what remained, dragging up and into the distance, destroying everything in a straight line that stretched for dozens of miles.
The citizens of Magnashore opened their eyes some moments later. But when they observed the aftermath of the great battle between the unknown expert and the True Dragon, they were left in disbelief.
"The volcano is… gone…" someone murmured. "And the Dragon… Is it…?"
"It's dead," replied an old Foundation Establishment Realm man who couldn't believe what he was saying. "It was split in half, its Core extracted."
"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
'T-This…'
Unbelievable!
And a genuine Dragon Core—just how valuable must that be!?
"From the looks of it, though, that unknown expert left behind the various valuable parts of the Dragon," the old man continued, eyes shining with respect. "It's highly possible he left all these priceless materials behind to assist in the restoration of Magnashore City. What a benevolent Saint!"
In truth, Necro simply couldn't carry around a Dragon corpse the size of multiple towns. But people were free to believe whatever they wanted; he didn't mind.
The City Castellan's mild depression over the destruction of his wonderful city was instantly uplifted. He was already chatting away with several other government officials about erecting a large statue in honor of the valiant hero that saved them all.
Everyone had become very spirited. Only a few lost any loved ones—and that wasn't even because of the Dragon, but instead due to the chaos caused by fearful mob rushes.
Then there was the burly man who survived the Dragon Slaying Quest…
"T-The Dragon is… dead…?" he muttered, his lifeforce barely a flame in the wind. "D… Does this mean our sacrifices weren't for… naught…?"
The burly man found peace in this. And when Search Parties arrived soon after, they saw that he died with a bright smile plastered across his face.
The days that followed were pretty peaceful.
That was until a group of foreign powerhouses demanded the leaders of the city to gather...
As soon as the City Castellan and miscellaneous officials saw how the unknown visitors were flying with no support, they knew they were dealing with some real bigwigs. The representatives of Magnashore were courteous and answered all of the questions asked by the powerhouses, most of which pertained to the matter of the True Fire Dragon being slain.
"Humph!" A fairy-like woman of astounding beauty coldly snorted. "Even the King of this small Kingdom wouldn't dare kill a True Dragon so thoughtlessly. Who does this lower entity think he is!?"
The True Fire Dragon was actually something this woman had meticulously hatched herself. It escaped some months ago, and though she—along with fellows from the same Dragon Island Sect—had been tracking it all this time, it turned up dead in some low-level area??
The fairy-like woman was mad. Extremely mad.
"Kill everyone here," she emotionlessly commanded before fluttering away and into the sky. "Also, we have a new target. I want this lower entity to die painfully and agonizingly."
"Yes, Saintess!" The other flying powerhouses cupped their fists, drawing their swords.
"W-Wait, can't we discuss this further!? Your dragon—"
SHING!
SPURT!
The City Castellan died instantly!
"The Saintess's orders are absolute," said a man with overwhelming power. "Bugs like you lot should be grateful that she wants you dead."
A massacre then ensued.
The blood that was spilt could create a river, and the cries and screams that resounded could instill anyone with a sense of terror…
— Meanwhile, in the neighboring Plateau Province of Flat Edge —
*Ding!*
A ridiculously good-looking young boy viewed an illusory blue screen in front of him. It informed him of his recent gains.
[You slew a True Fire Dragon of the 1st Layer of the Golden Core Realm, draining it of all of its Lifespan!]
[Lifespan +106,590]
Over 100 thousand Lifespan in one go!
How overpowered!
"This'll put me one step closer to reaching the peak of the Minor Willow Dryad Rank," Necro mused.
[You devoured the Rank 7 (Ancient Fire Dragon) Bloodline!]
[The Ancient Fire Dragon Bloodline has been automatically assimilated with your Origin Progenitor Bloodline!]
[All of your Attributes have tremendously improved!]
Amazing!
Primal power was overflowing from inside Necro!
"So much loot from a single True Dragon," he awed. "In the future, I should look into the Dragon Slaying profession."
After reveling in the gains, Necro scrutinized his surroundings.
There were a few cities nearby, as well as a…
"Turtle?" Necro tilted his head, the scene before him a little astounding.
Inching across the Flat Edge Plateaus was a white-bearded turtle larger than the cities it was slowly moving between. This turtle appeared very benign, unlikely to harm even a fly. If looking at its abysmal Lifespan, it would also seem to be very, very old—even older than most modern civilizations.
Using his Divine Sight System Ability, Necro quickly got to the crux of the Turtle's identity.
{[The Aimless Ancestor]}
[Lifespan: 1,309,210 /1,310,006]
[Cultivation: Soul Formation (Peak)] – [Sealed]
—[Over one million years ago, this Turtle was a famous Immortal Figure in the High-Heaven Kingdom. It spearheaded the problems of unfair treatment against Monster Immortals, and even vastly improved the image of Monster Immortals in the hearts of Human Immortals.]
—[However, because of the Aimless Ancestor's blind kindness, it was eventually tricked by ancient Human Immortals that hated its efforts…]
—[Cast down from Heaven by those sinister Human Immortals, the Aimless Ancestor had its cultivation sealed and its mind weathered down. All of its efforts in the High-Heaven Kingdom had been for naught, with everything reduced to ruins and the treatment of Monster Immortals never lower.]
—
"Soul Formation Realm…" Necro could hardly believe his eyes. He had never even met a Nascent Soul Realm Heavenly Deity before, but now an even higher-level Supreme Deity appeared before him?
Was this a stroke of good luck—or the prelude to a terrible fate??
"Whatever the case may be, that Aimless Ancestor is not being approached by any powerhouses," Necro noted. "It's obvious the Immortal Monster has been at this for an extremely long time."
But even Immortals eventually died. This Aimless Ancestor would not be able to avoid that inevitability.
Deciding to go and investigate this anomaly himself, Necro blurred. He traveled thousands of miles in a couple of minutes, ultimately reaching a large city that was dwarfed by the nearby Aimless Ancestor.
The City of Shelldom, founded in honor of the Aimless Ancestor…
