Infinite Wealth System: Crazy Tasks, Insane Rewards!

Chapter 120: Dark Deeds

That same day, they contacted the members of the Royal Council, asking to have a peace meeting with them. Of course, the council already knew about the conflict between the King and The Dominus, but surprisingly, they still accepted the invitation to meet with Lady Frostline.

They agreed to meet in a bar somewhere far from the capital district, and Camilia wouldn't go there alone.

Jayden made sure she was heavily secured, especially considering the venue was in a very distant area from the palace.

Jayden didn't want to risk her getting hurt or captured, so he ensured her defense was strong.

Expectedly, the council members brought their guards as well.

The Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Power, the Minister of Agriculture, and most significantly, the Minister of Defence.

They were all present.

Then there was the Minister of Commerce, who also arrived with them because, surely, he was one of the council members.

They settled in a private area, a bar room reserved for first class citizens like them.

There was a noticeable sense of awkwardness around the room at that point, but every single one of them tried to act calm and diplomatic.

Camilia maintained a relaxed smile as she welcomed them with a friendly tone, adding respect to her approach.

"You are welcome, Ministers. Umm, we decided to call for this meeting to have a short discussion with you all. You know, the conflict between our bosses has been heating up, and my boss, The Dominus, has decided to end the conflict in an easy way," Camilia said.

"There is no other way, Lady Frostline. The only way to end this conflict is to apologise to the King for withdrawing from the proposal agreement and then honor the deal," the Minister of Infrastructure said.

"He's right. Our King is not a man of jokes," the Minister of Defence stated.

"Neither is mine," Camilia cut in, her face visibly serious. "Your King is responsible for something he wants. Something the whole nation wants..."

She glanced at all of them, one by one.

"Freedom."

They sensed the toughness behind her voice, feeling the sincerity in every bit of her tone.

The Minister of Commerce then broke the silence.

"That's not in our power. The King has the power to step down or not. We don't want to be part of this or, even worse, on your side," he said.

"We all know how the King has treated his council members," Camilia began.

They all flinched at once.

"Low pay, tough secrets... evil deeds that you were forced to do. We know that... all of them," she continued.

"Wha... what do you mean?" the Minister of Infrastructure asked.

"Really? You don't know what I mean?" Camilia chuckled. "Mister Nile, Minister of Infrastructure. You want me to remind you about how the King forced you to commission a weak bridge that spanned about thirty kilometres so the quick fall could cause a lot of deaths for population reduction?"

The Minister of Infrastructure widened his eyes at once. His look held nothing but shock and wariness.

It was clear that she was right, and he couldn't utter a word.

The other ministers seemed to know about it as well, as they were all dumbfounded.

"Mister Thomas, noble Minister of Agriculture. Want me to remind you about how you were forced to sponsor poisonous substances to the commercial farm in New Avril? For population reduction too?" she asked.

Thomas froze, eyes wide.

Camilia turned to the Minister of Defence next.

"Mister Jeff. Great Minister of the Nortasian Armed Forces. Remember the missile test that went wrong? Was it really a mistake? Was it intentional? Fifteen thousand lives were lost in New Avril that day. It was just a few months after the citywide poison outbreak," she said.

"The Ministry of Finance and Commerce turned deaf ears and refused to aid the people. It was a black year, the year 2062. A year we would never forget."

"And then three years later... when everyone was completely erased from that wonderful city, the pathetic evil King came up with the bloody Megacity Project idea. Sure, not many in the country are suspecting it was done on purpose, but we know... we have every proof."

"We can ignite a rebellion in the country in the blink of an eye if we tell the people the truth, but I trust you don't want that," Camilia said, glancing at them.

"No, Lady Frostline. We don't want that. We can fix things, okay... please don't expose it," Mister Jeff begged, his proud face now completely filled with worry.

"Please, Lady Frostline. We can sort this out, okay?" the Infrastructure Minister added.

They all suddenly changed their tone, except for the Minister of Commerce, who happened not to have much blood on his hands... he thought.

But to Cammy, their crimes were all the same.

"There's only one way to sort things out, Ministers. And that way is to do what's right. You have one last chance to rewrite your dark deeds, and that's to stand for freedom. Doing anything apart from this would ignite chaos," Camilia said.

"Are you asking us to betray our King?" the Minister of Agriculture asked.

"Yes, but no."

The men exchanged glances awkwardly.

"Betraying a man who has completely betrayed his people isn't entirely betrayal. It's called vengeance," Camilia clarified.

"Would you choose to rewrite your dark deeds and accept democratic rule or keep supporting the soon to fall King and die miserably?"

"If I were you, I would go for the first choice. The Dominus is ready to allow you to retain your posts as ministers and would offer higher pay, unlike your King, who cares for no one but himself."

"Think wisely, Ministers. Time is short."

That was the last statement Camilia made before leaving the room.

The ministers sat there, completely clueless about what to do, lost in thought.

Lady Frostline's speech hadn't just made them uneasy; it seemed to have left a bruise on their minds.

.....

The next time they met, the Kingmaker was present, and fortunately, the ministers had decided to accept Camilia's proposal.

The Kingmaker was pretty stubborn in the beginning, but soon enough he was tamed after being wired five million dollars.

Plain corruption.

It was nothing to Camilia, as that amount was like the cost of a snack to her.

With the council completely persuaded, the job was clearly done, but there had to be trust.

They all decided to swear loyalty, which they did... but there was one man.

The Minister of Commerce.

"They gave Gregory the effrontery to disrespect me. Let's see how this goes."

Unlike the rest, he was the only one who didn't make his swears clear, and luckily no one noticed, because his voice was still heard.

...

After that day, Camilia gave Jayden the good news, and now it was time for the next plan.

Harper was signaled.

******

She gathered five men, all equipped with the Shadow Mask that the genius Charlotte Nike had crafted.

"Perhaps a capture is fine. I don't want his blood on your hands," Jayden said.

"Nah, I want to end that son of a bitch's life. He tried to kill you twice, Jayden. He doesn't deserve to live," Harper objected.

"I know... I understand that. But we don't have to repay in the same way we were hurt. If it always happens that way, then there are no good sides," Jayden said.

Harper glared at him and shrugged.

"Fine. That doesn't change the fact that I'm going to break his nose. No comment," she smiled.

Jayden chuckled. "You are free. But don't let him die."

"He won't," Harper gave a nod.

"Well then, you are good to go," Jayden said.

"Hey, you can't just let me go like that. You don't know if this might be the last time you're seeing me," Harper stated, her eyes sharp.

"Come on, babe. Don't say that," Jayden approached her closely and slowly pressed a kiss on her lips.

"This is not the last time we see each other. Got it?" he said.

"Got it," Harper smiled as she heaved a long sigh.

Jayden accompanied her to the chopper, where all the ladies watched her vanish through the sky as she embarked on the important mission.

They were all hopeful it would go as planned, and only that way would the mission be complete.

As they walked back in, Jayden gave the interface a sharp look.

[The Shield breaking countdown: 1 month, 1 week, 4 days, 23 hours, 49 minutes, 22 seconds.]

Jayden shook his head and dismissed the screen.

*****

They landed quite far away from the palace to avoid arousing suspicion among the palace securities.

Harper led the five men as they approached the first wall of the palace.

It was a fourteen foot tall wall with heavy artificial security installations, and they dared not be careless.

When they were a short distance from the main gate, Harper turned to them.

"Once you put on the mask, they won't be able to see you, but don't try making body contact with them. They would feel it."

They all nodded.

"Follow me closely. The only target is the King, but if you get into trouble... they are welcome to have a taste of the Shock Wrath," she smiled.

In a moment, they all wore the mask and dashed forward.

"Quick. There are three different heavily guarded gates, and we only have one hour."
