Chapter 121: Harper On Duty

The one-hour countdown was showing mid-air after they put on the mask. Harper moved slowly and steadily as they approached the gate.

At that point, the gate was closed, and they would only be able to enter when it was open.

Fortunately for them, it only took eight minutes of their time before about three SUVs approached the gate from the entrance road.

They had to take their chances smartly.

The moment the gate opened, Harper dashed in even before the SUVs went by. The men followed up closely as well, and in a moment, they got past the first gate.

The other gate was about a hundred and fifty meters from the first, so they hurried up. The SUVs had already disappeared into the distance, and Harper suspected it might be some visitors, or perhaps the Prince returning from somewhere.

They were pretty sure the king was in the palace at that moment... Charlotte made sure of that before assuring them that it was the right time to strike.

The Shock Wrath rifle was with them and was clearly invisible as well. Charlotte stated that the Shadow Mask had laws...

Anything they held could be invisible, but stuff that held or covered them couldn't.

For instance, using a car would be completely impossible. They could be invisible inside the car, but the car wouldn't, which would force the security to suspect and take action.

It would not be advisable to fight the security men back, because there were so many of them in the palace. If that was to happen, it must be because they really had to.

And now that the Shadow Mask could last for an hour, it was almost reliable. They would only have thirty minutes to get in and carry out the operations, and thirty minutes to get away.

They reached the second gate in no time. Twelve minutes gone and still they hadn't gotten to the villa yet.

It unfortunately turned out that the gates were locked, and no one was coming in. From the way things looked, not anytime soon.

"We'll have to go over the wall," Harper told them in a mutter.

"But, ma'am. The danger..."

"I know. We have to get past it. That is the only way, or we'll get caught. You know what our fate would be if that happens," Harper said.

Marcus, the guy who had complained, nodded to that as he joined her, who took the first step onto danger.

Harper climbed slowly and carefully, but she wasn't a fool to joke with the time. The electric naked wires were as big as candlesticks, lined in five different rows. If one had to get past them, they would have to jump over.

The wall was already a very high one, and jumping over another three feet was a crazy job.

When Harper realized this, she heaved a rough sigh.

But she didn't hesitate.

"For you, my love."

In a moment, she jumped over, landing with a bang, but thanks to the fact that they had decided to jump over from a far side away from the gate.

The men couldn't notice a sound.

Marcus followed suit immediately, and the others didn't lag behind.

They got the second gate's case settled at that point and moved on to the third. All this while, they spotted many security men roaming the area, and the best thing they did was to move another way.

Waiting was a bad idea, and no matter what happened, they kept moving.

They expected a more challenging problem at the third gate, but luckily, it turned out that the third gate was...

Was not what they expected.

It was open, a few guards, and a very cold ambiance.

"Let's go," Harper rushed on and entered.

The palace was right next after the massive compound, and they had spent twenty minutes before they reached there.

One of the guards was stepping out of the building at that point, and Harper didn't fail to use her chance. She snuck in as the jamming of the door hit her on the fingers.

Bam!

...

The guard furrowed his brows as he heard an almost unfamiliar sound when he closed the door. He opened it and gave a stare but found nothing.

He then shook his head and looked away, closing the door and attempting to walk away when he heard another unfamiliar sound.

This time he gave a glare and even walked in, checking all areas and still saw no one.

"The door is acting strange today... Oh wow," he shook his head, shrugged, and then left.

...

"Everybody in?" Harper asked in a mutter.

"Yes," Marcus nodded.

She nodded in response and headed in.

There was a long alley from the door, one that led to many rooms. But they were sure that King Arthur's chamber would be upstairs.

They had to find a way up, and it turned out to be an elevator. Again, they had to access the top with the aid of one of the people inside the building.

It was the wine bearer this time, who was surely heading to the king's chamber.

Those moments took only a minute, and soon they were at the top. The very top after passing through two floors.

If one saw the palace from outside, they wouldn't believe there were up to four floors in the building. But anyway, it was a peak building...

Something like this should be expected when it's the King of Nortasia's home.

The trail on the wine bearer wasn't close, as they didn't want him to hear their footsteps.

He was about eight meters away, which made it clear that he would be entering the chamber before them.

They made sure to maintain their watch anyway.

Soon, when the man reached his destination and walked in...

It only took a second before he rushed out, the wine still with him as his face turned terrified.

He shuffled out swiftly and got past them, leaving them with intense curiosity.

She gave Marcus and the rest a "come on" gesture, as she led the way in.

This time, there was no need to be too careful. They knew they were in the lion's throne and were just a step away from reaching their target.

Harper opened wide at once.

And at that point...

"Dispose of them. No one should know about this. Kill the wine bearer too."

There, King Arthur was holding a pistol, and on the other side were three men lying lifeless on the marble floor.

Two guards stood before them, sharp, but one could sense the terrified look on their faces.

"Check who's at the door. I want my son here now," King Arthur said as he glared toward the door.

Sure, they had noticed the opening but didn't see anyone. It was enough to be suspicious.

But what was on their mind was that the wine bearer was going to be a threat because he had seen what happened.

They would be killing him for sure.

Harper gave Marcus and two other guys an order to follow the two guards and stop them from killing the wine bearer, while she went ahead into the room with the two others.

King Arthur thought he was alone.

Now the door was closed, as he maintained a frown. He seemed to feel no remorse about what he had just done, and Harper wasn't surprised.

Of course, everyone knew the kind of person he was.

"Well well well. It's funny how you didn't realize there are two people in this room," Harper voiced.

King Arthur flinched at once, staring around as he grabbed the pistol.

"Who are you?! Show yourself!"

His face was completely dark, terrified.

That voice hadn't only frightened him; it had just told him his enemies had come for revenge.

Harper had to open the mask, but King Arthur happened not to know her.

"I was sent to kill you. How do you answer to that?" Harper asked with a smile.

"That's if I don't kill you first," King Arthur pointed the pistol at her.

"Yes you can. My gun is laid low and yours is pointed at me. I would be cooked if I mess up," Harper nodded with a wry smile.

King Arthur stood strong, not taking his eyes off her as he shivered nervously.

Harper then stared back and nodded.

In an instant, two invisible arms grabbed King Arthur, as the pistol was suddenly pulled away from his hand.

"Did I say there were only two people?" she asked and laughed softly. "Sorry, there were actually four people in here."

She stepped closer, locking eyes with him.

"What do you want from me?!" King Arthur asked.

He remained stubborn, as expected.

"Your life. You've taken too many to still be alive," Harper replied.

"I'm the king! I have every right to do whatever I want to!" King Arthur shouted.

"True, you have every right. But you didn't have the right to kill my husband..."

King Arthur furrowed his brows in confusion.

"Jayden Cole. You made him jump over the bridge, and unfortunately, he didn't survive," Harper said.

It was at that point that King Arthur understood. He truly had sponsored Jayden's death, but getting a revenge attack from his wife was what he didn't expect at all.

"You ended his life. I must end yours."

At that point, he came to believe that the chance of getting killed was high. There was no way she would let him live after such a master plan attack.

"Please. Don't kill me. I'll pay you. A million? Ten million? Fifty million?"

"I don't want your bloody money! Would that ever bring my husband back?" Harper barked.

The King got frightened, his face turning pale.

"I'm the king. If you kill me..."

"Shut your mouth! You always boast about being the king. A pathetic evil king... What's the good of it if I end your life right away and you won't be king anymore?" she asked.

She raised the Shock Wrath and pointed it at the king's head.

"Just now I can shut your mouth and make you stop claiming to be 'King'," she added.

"Please don't. Please..."

The proud king begged for his life, not wanting to taste death... Something he had been forcing thousands of others to.

Harper was completely speechless.

She could only heave a sigh and put the gun down... After all, this wasn't the plan.

She had to deliver the message.

"Well, if you don't want to die..."

She gave him a death glare.

"You will have to step down and announce to the whole of Nortasia that you, King Arthur Rogers, have accepted Democratic Rule."
