Chapter 122: Independence Day
That was one of the things King Arthur would never try to do in his life, and pointing a gun at his head didn't change that fact.
He spat, his eyes turning dark as he gave a look of total disapproval.
Harper expected as much, as she scoffed and nodded.
She gave him a sharp look and began. "Well, I know you would rather end your life than end Royalty Rule in Nortasia. But guess what, I'm not really after your life, my king."
Harper smiled as she turned away. In a moment, she turned back to him...
"Well, the thing is... it's your son's life that I'm going for," Harper said.
King Arthur's eyes widened at once. "Huh... Uh... No, please... He's my son. The heir to the throne of Nortasia. You can't kill him, please."
For the very first time, King Arthur appeared more scared than ever. At that point, he couldn't even help but shed tears as he begged for his son's life.
He knew that killing his son would mean that there was no future for the family...
He didn't want that.
"Then do what's right, King Arthur. Prevent your son from getting his brain burst by this bad guy right here. Only a simple speech to the nation would end all this, and you would retain your son to yourself," Harper said.
"Deal or no deal?"
The king appeared silent for a while, but Harper waited. She knew that this was the most difficult decision he was going to make in his entire life, but it was something that really needed to be done.
"You know what..."
She got impatient and wanted to react to his delay until finally...
"Deal... I will step down. I will announce to the nation that I'm no longer king. It's the future ruler's job to declare Democratic Rule. Not mine," King Arthur said.
Harper thought about it and nodded.
"Okay then... Do the needful."
Now that the Shadow Mask was taken off, the countdown was on pause, so they weren't worried about going visible before getting out.
After all, once King Arthur made his speech clear, the guards wouldn't dare to attack them.
King Arthur was forced to get on with the speech as early as possible to fasten the plan that Jayden had.
He was live on national television before they knew it, and there the King of Nortasia calmly gave his speech to the nation.
"Today, I hereby step down as King of Nortasia, leaving the throne for whoever the Kingmaker finds fit and the Royal Evaluation. I leave with both joy and regret, and wish the nation the best in the future. Stand strong, Nortasia."
The speech ended, and King Arthur had to begin his move out.
What had left him with so much fear was that he hadn't seen Kael for the past two days. Things like that happen sometimes, because Kael was someone who loved living away from home and spending time with friends and women in other cities.
King Arthur wasn't worrying too much until Harper showed up and lied that she had captured Kael.
That was the main reason he had panicked when she threatened to kill him.
He had no other choice but to step down and let his son live. He couldn't let his strength and hope die, knowing that it would just be indirectly getting him killed.
Harper had made sure to make the scene in the chamber completely coded, and no one had been able to detect what was happening inside.
But after the speech...
It was officially clear that guards in the palace would no longer honor orders from King Arthur.
Oh, now he is Arthur Roger...
Nortasia is currently without a king at this point, but not for long.
Arthur had to leave the palace immediately, and then Harper promised to release Kael right away.
"You are seeing your son whenever he is ready to show up. That's on him," she said inwardly while she watched the cars drive out of the palace compound.
Harper quickly went ahead and called the Dominion villa.
"Mission complete," she said.

Jayden and the rest of the ladies watched the speech on TV, seeing the once proud and nonchalant king with a faint look and shrunken stance.
The speech was clear, he was stepping down as king.
They didn't have to be told that Harper had already secured the job, and were even impressed by how the king was completely tamed. Her specialized skill would have made her a tough, intimidating, and threatening expert.
Jayden enjoyed every moment of the speech, and the other ladies did too.
"I'm super proud of you, my gal," Jayden smiled.
It didn't take long before the call buzzed, and when Charlotte picked up, the first line they heard was...
"Mission complete."

Now the next step was to grab the seat.
Thanks to Camilia. She had persuaded the Kingmaker to do the job when all this was done, and then they would carry on from there.
Now that the king had made it clear to the nation that he was stepping down, there surely would be no violent issues anymore, and the rebellion would have no reason to happen.
Jayden was glad about that.
The very next day, the Kingmaking ceremony happened.
It was widely announced that The Dominus would be the new king of Nortasia.
Everyone wondered why it wasn't the prince being king... It wasn't until they discovered that King Arthur had left the palace that they realized he was actually withdrawing his whole family from rulership.
It left the entire nation with different talks, and everyone began wondering what had caused the king to step down.
However, for many, it seemed more like good news because they already knew that The Dominus was in support of the Freedom Party.
Now, it was certain that Democratic Rule would finally happen in the country.
The people of the Freedom Party rejoiced across the nation, already terming today as "Independence Day" in the country.
Although it wasn't official, it was clear.

The Kingmaking Ceremony was to happen in the palace, and all the governors and influential men in the country settled in the palace, waiting for The Dominus to arrive.
Today wasn't just the day of having a new king... it was the day when The Dominus would finally reveal himself.
Everyone was in total anticipation, curious, impatient.
The richest man in Nortasia would be the ruler... how good was that?
They waited for quite a while before the luxury SUVs from Dominion Island finally arrived at the scene.
Almost everyone was so excited to meet The Dominus today, and were even more glad about having him declare Democratic Rule.
The members of The Core finally began to step out, but mostly everyone was looking forward to seeing the man of the day.
Every one of them was out in no time, and still, there was no sign of The Dominus, but there was the last car.
Everyone believed he must be inside that black-tinted SUV.
However, everything went wild the moment Lady Frostline approached the Kingmaker and gave him a disheartening news.
"The Dominus sends his sincere apologies. Unfortunately, he wouldn't make it here today... but he promises to show up the day he appoints his assistant. However, he has assigned me to take his place today," she said.
The Kingmaker had a dark look after that, but he didn't hesitate too much. Whatever it is, it was clear that everyone wants The Dominus to be king... majority preferring the post of President.
"All right, Lady Frostline. Please come forward," the Kingmaker said.
Camilia nodded and walked over, with Temi and the rest following up.
They all settled behind her, and the coronation began.
"Today, before the great nation of Nortasia... I hereby crown The Dominus, as King of Nortasia, right from now until death."
"Right from now until death."
The entire crowd chorused.
He took what looked like a staff — a golden staff — and handed it to Camilia. At this time of modern life, crowns were no longer needed for kings.
It had even become more political than royal, so why worry?
After handing the staff over, it was official.
The Dominus is king, but then Camilia wasn't done with the assignment.
She went ahead to the crowd, knowing that this ceremony was being broadcast on national television.
The Dominus had assigned her to make it clear to the people today... today was the last day that Royalty Rule would ever exist in Nortasia.
That was what the people had always wanted... that was the best thing that would make the nation greater and better. And they were going to get it.
Right before the nation, she got on with her speech.
"In the name of the king, King Dominus, I hereby declare Democratic Rule in Nortasia. It's officially commanded that Nortasia is now a Democratic Republic, with the ruler no longer a king, but a president."
"From now on, the people will live by the rule of law, with their rights efficiently equal to everybody else's."
"Today, we celebrate the new beginning. Today, we celebrate the rise of a new Nortasia."
"Today, we celebrate the independence of this great nation."

Back in Dominion Island.
"Haha! Bravo!" Jayden laughed as he clapped excitedly, watching the live broadcast on TV.
It was crazy to be indoors while watching your own ordination as president, but where is the lie that this wasn't fun?
With a smile, he muttered:
"Now Kingsleys, get ready to meet your miserable end."
