Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1110: An Elder’s advice to a child

[OP: ]

(A while ago, on the 1st floor…)

Alf and his elder aunt Mime had stayed to admire the room of the elements. The place was filled with not just the magical elements, but things that were beyond magic as well.

"That light demonstration was not the only thing that’s special here. Everything here is amazing…"

The two had looked around the place with their familiars, the wyvern and the little mouse. They looked through things with great curiosity, and were even surprised to find some of the things that seemed absurd to them, like this shelf of flames.

"Uto found this shelf the most amazing though. The elements here all fire, and yet they are so different from one another."

The element of flames was the largest one among the other element demonstrations here.

Filled with shelf sections of triangular shape, there were different kinds and types of Flames burning in them on display.

The shelf itself seemed open, however, when one touched the flame that was not aligned with their own attributes, they would not be able to touch them.

A glass like barrier would prevent them from touching them, however, if they do possess attributable affinity with any of the elemental flames, they would be able to feel them.

"Uto loved the wind flames the most."

The shelves were divided into two sections. One section was all about flames that were creating a certain element like wind, water, or ice. On the other hand were flames that were the element itself, like the flames with the properties of metal that were still burning like the other flames.

All of these flames, while some having similarities, were burning with a distinct color that one with a keen eyesight would instantly recognize.

And his elder aunt, a null elemental mage, was one of the people with such keen eyesights.

"It’s not the wind flames that she liked, Alfred.

These flames are different from just the wind element flames.

I know you can tell that much already." Alf knew just how unique these flames were.

The flames were in the sections that were the element itself. They were different from the flames that generated winds.

These flames that had attracted Alf so much that he had stayed here and had been glaring at this particular shelf with his familiar since earlier, these simple green looking flames were not simply producing any elements.

The green flames were an element itself that gave off a light gust of wind that might also be misunderstood as winds.

"I know. I know they aren’t producing winds, but, what are these green flames?" He had thought about many possibilities.

If he could feel these flames, he might have also been able to grasp the truth behind them. However, he could not touch these flames either.

"You see them as green, huh?" His great aunt Mime mumbled her breath, and somehow got an idea of what the flames might be.

A smile appeared on her face when she saw the young boy as well as the younger familiar creature’s sincere eyes absorbed in the pretty flames before them.

’Thor always says that mages are curious creatures. I understand why he says that…’ Mime could see a kind of pureness that only a child could have in the two’s eyes.

And along with that childish pureness, she could also see the great desires of a determined adult that wants to achieve something that seems visibly impossible.

"What could it be, Aunt Mime?" Alf was asking her a question, but his eyes were still stuck on the shelf, at the flames.

It was a little cute in a way, so she simply smiled at him and shook her head positively.

"I might have an idea… but, I won’t tell you. How about you figure it out yourself or go and ask someone that might know about it certainly?" That was her advice.

Since Alf wanted to know something, since he wanted answers, it was obvious that he would have to find that answer through various means– conventional or unconventional.

"I should ask, huh?"

He could not touch the flames so he would have to observe them from closer, find a way to know more about them, find a link that gives some idea about the flames, or if that doesn’t work… go and ask the one that knows the answer themselves.

There were easy ways and there were difficult ways, the choice was his as to what he wants to do to find the answer.

"I don’t want to ask him just yet though, Aunt Mime. He… big brother already has a lot going on for him right now." A look of sad bitterness shrouded his face when he said those words.

Even his elder Aunt, a High mage and some of the few in the world that had mastered null element, could feel those emotions.

She was obviously telling him to take the easy path, testing him to see what he does. And she wanted to see just how long would he take to ask Eon in case he does not find the answer on his own.

However, hearing his answer to her question and seeing that look on his face, she could tell this young child already knew about his position, as well as what the other party needed.

"He would tell me if I ask without a second thought. He would even help me grow stronger and learn things that I have no idea about now that he has brought us to this place, but…"

There were some things that one needed to conquer on their own. The challenges that one gave to oneself were the biggest driving force that drove them towards a more sturdier growth, a better future than one paved by someone else.

"Do you want to grow on your own, young one?" Mime could see a certain light in the young boy’s eyes that she also used to have at some point in her life.

"He is your goal, he is stronger, he is smarter, he has been in more life and death experiences than you, and he has found fortunate encounters through these deadly experiences that you might never have.

Your starting points were different, the struggles that he has had are unimaginable compared to your sheltered upbringing, you have knowledge from the books but, he has learned from someone above the rank of a grandmaster, learned from near death experiences and with his own talents. You know just how big of a gap there is between the two of you…

And yet, why is it that after knowing all of this as well, he is still your goal?"

Mime has been seeing all of these children for a long time now.

Be it when they arrived at the Heliox castle or when they visited when they were younger. She had looked after this particular child with the talents of the next Archmage, with a brain that she herself couldn’t help admire.

She knew he was smart and he knew that reaching great heights with his skills was not going to be a big deal and yet, he studied relentlessly.

He studied, he read more than any scholar of twice his age every day, and when he was free, he revised the things that he had learned.

He had talent and yet he worked more than any child his age that she had seen, and she knew well that the reason behind this crazy driving force, the original motivator of his life, the goal that he was chasing, must be the reason for his current decisions as well.

Which was very mature for his age, and that was the reason she was asking him that question in the first place.

"Why is he still… my goal?" Alf could not understand why she was asking him such a question out of the blue, but he understood she was also curious about this.

She was a bright person, much like his own mother so he had always looked up to her. And since she was asking him that question, he was obligated to answer honestly.

"Well, he is big brother Axion, after all. Do I need a bigger reason than that to have him as my goal?"

When you chase the sun, you’re bound to walk towards the light.

Among the mages, the only true goal of one’s life was to find the truths of nature… the keys that bound them and this world were the pursuit of happiness for them.

"I see…"

He was a mage already.

She knew just how much he loved magic ever since she showed him her magic a decade ago.

He was talented and was bound to surpass many including her in the near future, however, she had still considered him a child.

’He has grown up as well…’ It was moments like these when she felt she truly had gotten older.

He was young and in her eyes, he was also a child. Today as well, she simply wanted to give him some advice when she saw him stuck on a flame that she could not even see.

To her, he was simply staring at an empty section along with his familiar. However, while neither her nor her unique familiar could see this ’green’ flame, she knew there was a reason he could see it.

There must be something unique about this. There must be something special to this that he can know more about if he asks his big brother that brought them all here.

It was easy, but since he wasn’t going to take the easy path, she was going to guide him, or at least advise him on what he could do… but none of that was needed.

"It’s not going to be an easy path, Alfred. Chasing the sun… you will have to have a resolve to get burned." She was saying it seriously.

"Haha." But as she knew, he simply smiled at those words.

"If it’s just burns that I have to worry about, then I would have flown towards that sun a long time ago."

But he knew…

"To chase the sun, I need more than the resolve to face its heat, Aunt Mime."

He would need the strength to fly that high, wings that could take him there, winds to help him reach that height, experience with the heights and the supply of air to breath.

He would need resistance against the obstacles that block his path, and he would need endurance to stand before the severe heat that the sun produces to stand before it.

"I will still achieve it."

But he was going to do it anyway.

"I have always known it is not going to be easy."

He was moving too fast. Just catching up to him was an unbelievably difficult task.

Yet, he was determined.

"I will be a better mage than him."

That was his goal.

To be a better Mage than him.

To surpass him with his magic, not anything else since he knew that was never going to be possible anymore, but… with his magic. Explore stories on NovelBin.Côm

"I will be the best mage."

It was not a wish anymore.

It was his goal.
