Kazaf: The upside down

Chapter 46: Chapter 46 – The Gathering Storm

Kazaf stood at the entrance of the ancient chamber, his fingers tightening around the artifact. The golden relic pulsed faintly in his hands, its engravings shifting like whispers of an ancient language.

Dulla's words still echoed in his mind—This isn't just any relic. It's a key.

Rahim peered over his shoulder. "I don't like this. Why would Jamal Kassim send us for something this dangerous without telling us what it really is?"

Dulla exhaled, his expression grim. "Maybe he doesn't know… or maybe he didn't want us to."

Kazaf didn't answer. His instincts told him this artifact was more than a simple relic. And whatever it unlocked, others would come for it.

His thoughts were interrupted as Harun's voice rang out from above. "We've got company!"

Kazaf tensed. "Who?"

Harun leapt down the stairs, panting slightly. "Other sects. At least two of the five great ones."

Kazaf exchanged a glance with Rahim. This was getting worse by the minute.

A Clash of Titans

As Kazaf and his group emerged from the ruins, they were met with an imposing sight.

On one side, a delegation from the Vermilion Sect, known for their ruthless combat techniques and mastery of flame-based cultivation, stood in perfect formation. Their leader, a tall, broad-shouldered man with burning red eyes, stepped forward.

"I am Faris al-Tahir, Senior Disciple of the Vermilion Sect," he declared, his voice steady. "That artifact belongs to us."

On the other side, standing just as fearsome, were the warriors of the Stormshadow Sect, a sect feared for its ability to manipulate wind and lightning. Their leader, a striking woman clad in flowing black robes, smirked.

"And I am Layla Nasir, of the Stormshadow Sect," she said, her gaze sharp as she studied Kazaf. "We came for the relic as well. Hand it over, and we won't have to fight."

Kazaf's grip on the artifact tightened. "That's not happening."

Faris' expression darkened. "You don't have a say in this, half-breed."

Rahim scowled, hand drifting toward his blade. "You want to say that again?"

Dulla placed a calming hand on Rahim's shoulder. "Let's not be reckless."

Kazaf took a step forward, eyes locked onto both sect leaders. "I don't care who you are. If you want this, you'll have to take it from me."

Layla's smirk widened. "I was hoping you'd say that."

And then, the battle began.

The Flames and the Storm

The Vermilion Sect struck first. Faris launched a wave of scorching fire toward Kazaf's group, forcing them to scatter. The ground sizzled where the flames touched.

Harun countered with brute force, charging through the heat and swinging his hammer at one of the Vermilion disciples, sending him flying.

Rahim engaged two Stormshadow disciples at once, his twin blades clashing against their wind-infused strikes. Their movements were fast—faster than most warriors Kazaf had faced.

Dulla, always the strategist, stayed back, analyzing the fight. "Kazaf, we need to separate them! If they keep attacking from both sides, we won't last long."

Kazaf nodded. He turned his focus to Layla, who was watching him closely. With a burst of energy, he dashed toward her, his fist crackling with power.

She barely dodged in time, countering with a slicing gust of wind. Kazaf flipped backward, landing gracefully before lunging again. Their movements became a blur of wind and fists, each strike shaking the ruins around them.

Meanwhile, Faris continued his fiery assault, but Samir's spear danced through the flames, disrupting his attacks. "Not so tough without your fire tricks, huh?" Samir taunted.

Faris growled, his hands igniting once more. "You'll regret that."

A Shocking Revelation

As the battle raged, Kazaf sensed something shifting in the air.

The artifact.

It was glowing more intensely now, reacting to the energy in the fight. The engravings pulsed brighter, and Kazaf suddenly felt a strange force pulling at him.

Layla noticed it too. She leapt back, her eyes narrowing. "What… is that?"

Faris, distracted for a moment, hesitated mid-strike. "That energy… it's awakening."

Kazaf barely had time to react before the ground beneath them trembled. The ruins cracked, releasing a surge of ancient power. A deep, guttural roar echoed through the valley.

And then, from the depths of the ruins, something stirred.
