Kazaf: The upside down

Chapter 47: Chapter 47 – The Awakening of the Relic

The ground trembled beneath Kazaf's feet as a surge of raw energy erupted from the artifact in his grasp. A gust of wind howled through the battlefield, kicking up dust and forcing the warring sects to momentarily halt their fight.

From deep within the ruins, a heavy, ominous presence stirred, sending an eerie vibration through the air.

"What in the Down world is happening?" Rahim muttered, gripping his swords tighter.

Layla Nasir of the Stormshadow Sect narrowed her eyes at the artifact. "That relic… It's not just a key—it's a seal."

Faris al-Tahir of the Vermilion Sect clenched his fists. "You mean we've been fighting over something that was meant to stay buried?"

Kazaf's heart pounded. A seal? He looked down at the glowing artifact in his hands, its ancient inscriptions now pulsing wildly, as if resonating with whatever lay beneath them.

And then, the ruins split open.

A deafening crack echoed through the battlefield as the ground fractured, forming deep, jagged crevices. From the darkness below, a monstrous hand emerged—scaled, blackened, and pulsing with red veins of energy.

A guttural growl shook the air.

Then came the rest of the creature—towering, with jagged horns curling from its head, its fiery eyes burning with rage. A dark presence wrapped around it, thick and suffocating.

"By the heavens," Dulla whispered. "We just woke up something we shouldn't have."

Chaos Unleashed

The creature let out an ear-splitting roar before swinging its massive claw at the nearest group—Faris and his Vermilion Sect warriors. They barely had time to react before the beast's swipe sent several of them flying.

Layla cursed under her breath. "We need to stop it before it destroys everything!"

Faris, furious at the unexpected turn of events, channeled his flames. "Then let's burn it back to the abyss where it came from."

A powerful blast of fire erupted from his hands, engulfing the monster's arm. The beast staggered slightly, but when the flames faded, its charred skin rapidly regenerated.

It snarled, then swung again—this time toward Layla's warriors.

Kazaf had seen enough. He shot forward in a blur, intercepting the attack. His fist collided with the beast's claw, sending a shockwave through the battlefield.

The monster recoiled, but only briefly.

Kazaf gritted his teeth. Its energy… it's unnatural.

"Hit it with everything you've got!" Kazaf called out to the others.

Layla summoned a powerful storm, sending lightning crashing down onto the beast. Samir, Rahim, and Harun joined in, their combined strikes forcing the monster back. But no matter how much they attacked, it kept regenerating.

Dulla's eyes darted toward the artifact. "Kazaf! Try using the relic against it!"

Kazaf glanced down at the glowing object in his hands. He didn't know how, but he had to try. Channeling his energy into the artifact, he felt something shift.

The inscriptions on its surface began moving again—this time forming a pattern.

A powerful wave of golden light erupted from the relic, slamming into the monster. The beast let out a horrifying shriek, its body convulsing as cracks formed along its surface.

The light intensified.

Then, with one final roar, the creature was sucked back into the abyss beneath the ruins.

The moment it disappeared, the fractures in the ground began sealing themselves, as if the ruins had been waiting for the monster to be contained once more.

Kazaf staggered backward, breathing heavily. The artifact in his hands cooled, its glow fading.

Silence fell over the battlefield.

Allies and Enemies

Faris wiped the sweat from his brow. "That… was not what I signed up for."

Layla crossed her arms. "Nor I. But it seems none of us knew what we were dealing with."

Kazaf eyed them carefully. "Now that the fight is over, what's next?"

Faris and Layla exchanged glances before Layla finally spoke. "The artifact belongs to the sect that can best protect it. Right now, it seems that's you."

Faris grumbled but nodded. "I hate to admit it, but she's right. That thing responds to you."

Kazaf wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

Dulla stepped forward. "Then we should take it back to the Elara Sect. It's too dangerous to leave unguarded."

Layla smirked. "A pity. I would've liked to take it myself. But fine—for now, we'll let you have it."

Faris sighed. "We'll be watching. Don't think this is over."

With that, both sect leaders signaled for their disciples to retreat. Within moments, they disappeared into the distance, leaving Kazaf and his team standing amidst the ruins.

As the dust settled, Kazaf looked down at the artifact one last time.

Whatever power it held, it had just changed the course of his journey.

And he wasn't sure if that was for better or worse.
