Chapter 42: Plans for Aftermath
Lilian had destroyed the entire cliff, not holding anything back. It was the new strength that she had gained after training throughout the years, and going through another evolution.
Even as the cliff was destroyed, Lilian remained unharmed, as cold winds kept her floating in the empty space where a cliff used to be previously.
She knew that destroying Elias wasn't going to erase the shame that she had suffered at Aliath's hand. She was fighting against a twelve year old child after all. Still, she didn't seem to care.
Her mind was not in a stable condition, as the memories of the past kept flooding her mind. She didn't think about the kind of backing that Elias might have from his family.
It took a moment for the realization to set in. Elias wasn't just Aliath's brother but also the youngest son of the Ashborn Family.
"What have I done?" She mumbled, looking at the destruction that she had caused in her anger.
If she had simply injured Elias, then even if it was a serious injury, she could have passed it off as her trying to teach him. But if he was dead, then it was an entirely different thing.
She landed on the ground, her expressions turning grim.
"I-i need to find a way to shift this blame to someone else. I... Right! I can shift the blame to another participant! I just have to make sure that not even a shred of his body is left behind for any verification!"
Her thoughts were racing at the speed of light as she tried to think of ways to deal with the aftermath. There was no oversight from the academy in this world. She was the only one who knew what happened here.
"Didn't Rey have some enmity with Elias? If I can just shift the blame to him, the two families would be fighting with each other. They will never have time to think about anything else!"
She made up her mind that she was going to ensure that no evidence was left behind. She could always repair the frost cliff with her abilities after all. The moment she came up with a plan to deal with this mess, her expressions eased a little.
Cold winds started wrapping around her body, slowly lifting her up as she made up her mind to put the plan into motion before the test was over.
She had only risen a few feets in the air when a pale hand came out of the snow beneath her feet. The hand grabbed her ankle.
Lilian's eyes widened in disbelief. The cold winds that had covered her surroundings, was her domain. As long as something moved within those winds, she could sense their presence. But if something moved beneath the snow, she was just as shocked as she didn't see it coming.
She was forcefully pulled down inside the suffocating snow. However, she reacted quickly and turned into a lifeless statue of ice, her real body appearing hundreds of feet away.
Her expressions were somewhat panicked, as this was the second time she seemed to have fallen for it. If she was a little late, she might have actually died.
She was in disbelief that Elias had survived her first attack. If that was the case, then he already knew that she had tried to kill him. It was too late to take a step back.
She had to ensure that Elias was dead, so he could never tell this to anyone else. Now that she already had a plan to deal with the aftermath, she didn't have to hold back.
She raised her hand, and more ice spears materialized in the hundred feet radius of where the hand had come out. She didn't give him any chance, as the spears came crashing down again, making the earth tremble once more.
....
"Earthquakes are becoming too often. Is it a sign that the world is about to be destroyed?" Rey Esterin frowned, as he stepped inside the next domain whose owner was still alive.
He was already holding the first rank, but more than that, he wanted to find Elias to show him his new abilities.
"This test better not end until I kill you," he mumbled, as he increased his speed to chase after the marker of the domain owner which was rushing away.
....
"Is this world really going to end?" In an apartment building, Leo was sitting in front of a window, looking at the world that had lost its color, only to be embraced in a thick layer of white.
"Don't talk nonsense. This world will be fine. We will survive, and everything will return to normal!" A girl hugged him from behind.
"I really hope..." Leo mumbled, not knowing why he was thinking about Elias at a moment like this.
He was curious as to what that boy might be doing? Was he also hiding like them, waiting for the world to end? Or was he doing something more important?
....
Earth trembled as thousands of spears fell to the ground, but for some strange reason, Lilian didn't feel relieved. It was as if her instincts were warning her.
"I don't need to blame my brother..." A voice came from behind her, as if a ghost had materialized right there.
"Why don't you just die?!" Lilian exclaimed as a powerful frost explosion originated from her. Thousands of small fragments of ice materialized around her and shot outward.
They pierced through the body of the person who had materialized behind her, like bullets.
The woman looked back, watching Elias standing behind her. She could even see fresh blood. This time, she had really gotten him.
At least, that's what she thought until she felt the same sense of danger. Another presence materialized behind her, like that of an assassin.
She found it hard to believe. Elias was right in front of her, so who was behind her? The question made her expression darken.
