Chapter 500: Reesi Has a Car Accident, Strange New Developments
The sudden situation over the phone startled Mona, Michelle Winslow, and Chenier, and Luo An's expression changed:
"Reesi! Are you alright? Reesi?!"
Luo An shouted several times, but there was no response from the other end of the phone.
"Fu-k!"
Luo An's expression darkened as he turned to Winslow and asked:
"What did the FBI Las Vegas Branch and the local police say?"
Winslow's brow furrowed as he replied:
"They are deploying people, but it will take some time."
Mona's face immediately showed displeasure:
"By the time they deploy their people, the gang of robbers will have run out of Nevada!"
Luo An cut off Mona's words, saying seriously:
"Have them send someone to check on Reesi first!"
"Understood."
Winslow continued to communicate, and meanwhile, Michelle hung up the phone in her hand, looked up, and loudly said:
"The small plane is ready!"
"Depart immediately!"
————
Los Angeles is in the federal state of California, while Las Vegas is in the federal state of Nevada.
However, the distance between them is not far, a four-hour drive is needed, and it took Luo An and his team just over fifty minutes to reach Las Vegas by a small plane from the FBI Los Angeles Branch.
As soon as Luo An and his team landed, they received a call from the local FBI in Las Vegas stating that they had not found the car driven by the three robbers; the group had vanished without a trace.
However, the local police in Las Vegas stated that they had found Reesi and sent her to the hospital, where she was currently undergoing surgery.
Leading the Special Investigation Team, they borrowed an eight-seater MPV from the FBI Las Vegas Branch. As they drove to the hospital, Luo An first thanked the Las Vegas police and then inquired about the extent of Reesi's injuries and the situation at the accident scene.
"The female agent had some injuries on her head, both arms, and the left leg."
The police chief on the phone was quite amiable and explained:
"The preliminary assessment of the accident suggests that the female agent was driving fast when someone shot and burst the front tire of the car.
The female agent tried to straighten the car instinctively, but there was a car coming quickly in the opposite direction, which also had its front tire shot out, causing both cars to collide."
At this point, the police chief commented that Reesi had good driving skills.
From the obvious black tire marks left on the road at the accident scene, it was clear that Reesi reacted very quickly, using the unoccupied passenger seat to brace against the other out-of-control car.
However, the owner of the other out-of-control car was clearly not as skilled, not only failing to react in time but also mistakenly hitting the accelerator, which pushed Reesi's car sideways before slamming into a street lamp, causing Reesi to be injured from both sides.
"…OK, thank you."
After hanging up, Luo An closed his eyes and bowed his head in contemplation. Mona, knowing that Reesi had been taken to the hospital, breathed a slight sigh of relief. Winslow had a thoughtful look and said in a serious tone:
"So, the three guys who kidnapped Ke Green, they have accomplices.
The accomplice noticed Reesi following them and then shot out her car tires to prevent her from continuing to follow."
Chenier shook her head, countering:
"Reesi mentioned before that there was a long distance between her and the Buick sedan driven by those three because of the tracker.
With such a distance, plus Reesi's tracking skills and cautious habits, those three couldn't possibly have noticed Reesi."
Michelle looked puzzled:
"So you mean, the shooter wasn't an accomplice of the three robbers?"
Mona's expression hardened:
"Could there be a third party?"
Everyone looked at each other, finally all turning their heads to look at Luo An.
After a few seconds of silence, Luo An's eyes narrowed slightly as he said seriously:
"Reesi's original tracking device was damaged in the car accident, so we must proceed with two parallel tracks."
Winslow, Chenier, you two come with me to the accident site later, check the surveillance and see if you can find the guy who shot the tires.
The perpetrator fired two shots in quick succession, blasting the tires of two speeding vehicles, whether it's one person or two, their shooting skills are definitely not ordinary.
Be careful when the time comes, remember to call for backup if something feels off."
"Understood."
Winslow and Chenier nodded firmly, then Luo An turned to Mona and Michelle and said:
"Michelle, you two go to the hospital to take care of Reesi.
If Reesi remembers the license plate of the car, Mona, try to look it up on the computer."
"No problem."
Mona and Michelle nodded and agreed, arriving first at the hospital in the MPV. They got out of the car and quickly headed to the operating room where Reesi was, while Chenier pressed on the gas pedal, speeding off with Luo An and Winslow to the scene of the accident.
Since the accident occurred on a main traffic artery, to avoid disrupting traffic, the scene was quickly cleared up, and the damaged cars were towed to the FBI's turf.
When Luo An and his team arrived at the scene of the accident, it was already seven in the evening. Under the street lights, the tire marks from braking on the road were notably conspicuous.
Shining a flashlight, they walked to where the tire marks started, and looking from the hit location of the tire across the street, there was a six-story building with several shops on the first floor still open.
Luo An and his team exchanged looks and approached the shops to ask if there were any surveillance cameras.
Unfortunately, there were surveillance cameras, but they were all aimed inside the shops.
Only one supermarket had a camera pointing outside, but it only covered a small area in front of the supermarket entrance.
Luo An continued to ask:
"Regarding the accident just now, did you see any suspicious person or event?"
At the supermarket entrance, a young female cashier with red short hair shook her head. Seeing this, Luo An took out twenty dollars from his pocket.
The cashier casually took the dollars and stuffed them into her back pocket, then pointed at a streetlight not far away while chewing gum, and said,
"A minute or two before the accident, a black Ford car came speeding and abruptly stopped under that streetlight.
A man about your height and build, wearing a mask and a hat, got out of the car, a handgun in his right hand and holding what looked like two water bottles in his left, I'm not sure if I saw it wrong.
The man placed the two water bottles in front of the handgun, quickly fired two shots, the gunfire wasn't loud, and then those two cars collided."
Hearing this, Luo An's brows furrowed, Chenier's face changed slightly, and Winslow continued asking:
"And then?"
The female cashier didn't answer, just blew a big bubble, quietly watching him.
Winslow twitched his eyelid and took out five dollars, the cashier casually took... didn't take it, but grabbed it forcefully.
After stuffing the money into her pocket, the cashier calmly responded:
"The man gave the two bottles to a homeless scavenger, then drove off from here."
"Which direction did he drive?"
"South."
With the information they needed, Luo An and his team left the supermarket, Chenier with a furrowed brow muttered:
"That man must be an assassin."
Born in the International Business Department, she had seen many back-alley assassins who would load something into plastic bottles to create a makeshift disposable silencer, which is one of their methods.
Winslow nodded and added:
"The cashier said that the man first drove here, prepared for a moment and then fired the shots.
This suggests the perpetrator had already spotted Reesi in advance, drove here before Reesi, and then fired the shots to make Reesi crash into the other car."
Winslow's face was puzzled, unable to understand the man's motive for doing this.
Luo An was silent for a while and then took out his phone to call Mona:
"How's Reesi doing now?"
"She's okay, has sustained quite a few injuries, but she's very lucid."
Looking at Reesi lying on the hospital bed, talking with Michelle, Mona tapped on the keyboard, and said:
"Additionally, Reesi shared some good news; she actually had prepared two sets of position tracking monitors.
The one in the car was smashed, but there is another monitor that can locate Ke Green with the tracker!"
