Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 499: The Frightened Mona, Reesi's Urgent Call

FBI Los Angeles Branch building, a large conference room.

At this moment, the conference room is bustling with activity, filled with news media workers holding microphones and cameras, clamoring incessantly.

Standing behind the podium, Group Leader Potante Byrne faces the crowd with the standard federal eight-toothed fake smile as he answers questions.

Under the incessant flashing lights, Luo An sits behind and to the right of Potante Byrne, also sporting the standard fake smile.

Because of Hollywood—home to stars, directors, and film companies—Los Angeles news media workers tend to ask nearly anything, unlike the more serious New York media.

When Director Nasim took the stage, the reporters somewhat restrained themselves, asking many questions about the poison gas case.

As soon as Group Leader Potante Byrne took the stage, the topics of the reporters began to stray.

By the time it was Luo An's turn to speak, the reporters' questions had completely veered off in another direction.

"Group Leader Greenwood, can you share your current relationship status?"

"Group Leader Greenwood, how much does the FBI pay you? With your good looks and impressive skills, have you ever thought about developing a career in Hollywood, like starring in action movies?"

Luo An: "..."

After responding with a bunch of "No comments" and "Please refrain from questions that are unrelated to the case," the press conference ended, and Luo An finally left the conference room.

Seeing Luo An's sigh of relief, Director Nasim chuckled, then patted Luo An's shoulder friendly, reminding him again about the dinner, insisting that he must not be late that day, and then left the area with his secretary and others.

Group Leader Potante Byrne approached, patted Luo An's shoulder, and said with a smile:

"You need to get used to this kind of thing, it'll be okay once you're accustomed to it."

"OK."

Luo An rubbed his temples with a sense of resignation, fearing he wouldn't be able to fully adapt to these events anytime soon.

After a light-hearted exchange with Potante Byrne while taking the elevator up, Luo An got off the elevator ahead of him. Upon returning to the Special Investigation Team's office area, Mona followed him into the team leader's office with the dinner invitation in hand.

Luo An started to change out of his coat while looking puzzled:

"What's up?"

"Nothing much, just bringing in the invitation so it won't get lost if left outside."

Mona beamed a smile, placed the invitation on the desk, then moved forward to help Luo An straighten his clothes, while subtly inquiring about the source of that invitation.

There was nothing to hide, so Luo An briefly explained what happened in the director's office.

After summarizing the incident, Luo An had changed into his clothes too. He turned to look at Mona, raised his eyebrow, and asked:

"What, you found something fishy with the Mayor of Los Angeles City?"

"Not at all."

Mona shook her head, straightening the wrinkles on Luo An's suit, while responding with a smile:

"I just looked into the family of the Mayor of Los Angeles City.

Except for his twenty-year-old daughter, who is beautiful, almost on par with Hollywood stars even without makeup, there's nothing else special."

Luo An rolled his eyes speechlessly, not really aware of the Mayor of Los Angeles City's daughter, but he certainly could read between the lines of Mona's implication.

Then Luo An suddenly reached out, pulled Mona's slender waist towards him, and looked down at her lovely face with a smirk, asking:

"What, afraid I'll go after other women?"

Mona blinked her eyes and bit Luo An's lips softly:

"I'm 26 this year, almost 30, already getting old."

"..."

Luo An's forehead was lined with black lines, but understanding Mona's past experiences and family situation, he grasped the underlying panic and insecurity.

Thinking quickly, Luo An bit Mona's lips gently, whispering into her ear:

"Why would I go after other women? Those people are nowhere as good as you at spraying..."

"Shut up!"

Before Luo An could finish his sentence, Mona's face turned red instantly, pushing him away forcefully as she glared at him wide-eyed:

"Luo An!!"

"Don't be mad, it's just a joke."

Luo An chuckled, once again wrapping his arms around Mona to soothe her, gently kissing her ear and whispering softly:

"We met in New York, came to Los Angeles together, went to Europe together, and worked on cases together... We've been through so much side by side, and you know well that you're the only one in my heart."

With her head buried in Luo An's chest and her arms tightly wrapped around his waist, Mona fell silent for a few seconds before saying softly:

"I'm sorry, Luo An. I didn't mean to... I'm just a bit scared."

"I understand."

Luo An reached out to smooth Mona's hair and said in a low voice:

"Work is almost over. How about we go buy some candles and red wine later?

We haven't had a candlelit dinner since we moved into that villa."

Mona nodded, just about to say more, when there was a sudden, urgent knocking at the office door.

Mona quickly let go of Luo An, straightened her clothes and face, and stepped aside, while Luo An cleared his throat and strode to open the office door:

"What's going on?"

The knocker was Michelle, who apologized upon opening the door before hurriedly handing her phone to Luo An:

"Reesi has an emergency."

Luo An's eyebrows furrowed upon hearing this, and he quickly took the phone:

"It's me, Luo An. What's happened?"

"There's an emergency."

Background noise from Reesi's side included the sound of cars speeding by, and her voice sounded urgent as she explained quickly:

"Luo An, Ke Green has been abducted, and I'm in pursuit!"

Luo An's complexion changed, and he immediately raised his hand, pointing towards Winslow and Chenier in the work area, and shouted:

"Call the FBI and police in Las Vegas immediately and ask for their assistance with the interception!"

"Understood!" x2

Winslow and Chenier nodded vigorously and promptly picked up the landline to contact others, while Luo An swiftly addressed Michelle:

"Go contact the team supervisor and request a private jet to Las Vegas. We take off in twenty minutes!"

"I'm on it!"

Michelle turned and ran to carry out the order while Luo An continued to talk to Reesi on the phone to find out what exactly had happened, simultaneously casting an apologetic look towards Mona in the office.

The situation was pressing, and Mona, knowing the importance of the matter, gave Luo An a reassuring look before hurrying back to her desk to pack her things.

At the same time, Reesi on the phone started to explain the details of what had occurred.

Since arriving in Las Vegas, Ke Green had been splurging: gambling, gorging on fine food, buying expensive suits, renting sports cars to pick up girls, and even one night, he incredibly found himself with six women.

Since purchasing a high-end suit worth tens of thousands, Ke Green had worn it every day. Taking advantage of Ke Green's gambling time, Reesi stealthily placed a tracking device in the pocket of that suit.

This afternoon, Ke Green lost money again in the casino before heading to a restaurant for a meal.

Reesi had thought today would be like any other, with Ke Green spending money on a few women then heading back to the hotel to play games together.

But just as Ke Green walked into the parking lot, ready to get in his newly rented fourth sports car, three burly men in black ski masks suddenly appeared from around a Buick sedan.

The three men quickly knocked Ke Green unconscious with a few punches and stuffed him into the Buick before speeding away.

"I'm currently following that Buick sedan from a distance,"

Reesi said on the phone.

"Judging by their route, those three men seem to be planning to leave Las Vegas."

As the others quickly packed up, Mona put forth her speculation:

"Could it be that Ke Green has been too ostentatious these past few days, attracting the attention of some envious types?"

"That's a possibility."

Chenier nodded in agreement, but Luo An did not dwell on this topic and continued to ask:

"Reesi, did you manage to get a clear look at the car's license plate number? Mona might be able to find out more about that car."

"I...Fu-k!"

Bang—

Reesi had only started to speak when she suddenly cursed, and then there was a loud screech of brakes and the sound of a car collision over the phone!
