Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 591: The Findings of the Trace Examination Department

"Trace Examination Department?"

In the office area, Michelle announced this news, and Reesi immediately came over and asked:

"Luo An, why are you looking for them again?"

"Of course, to ask for their help."

Luo An casually replied, grabbed a coat, draped it over himself, and while facing the puzzled looks of the agents, he explained with a smile:

"Do you all remember the first case, the serial killings targeting street performers?"

"Of course!"

All the agents nodded in unison, and Chenier said:

"We couldn't find any clues on the mobile phones, and it's impossible to ask those street performers, so our investigation has hit a wall."

Hearing this, Mona's eyes lit up and asked:

"Luo An, did you think of some clue?"

"I can't think of a clue."

Luo An shook his head and explained:

"However, my idea is the same as with the second serial killing case.

Since we can't find useful clues from the pre-death experiences of the 12 victims, we might as well shift our focus to the killer himself."

"But we have already had someone profile the killer."

Reesi frowned, counting on her fingers:

"First, Caucasian male, currently about 40-55 years old.

Second, married or has a girlfriend, well-educated.

Third, financially stable, owns a second vehicle.

Fourth, possesses repressed psychological or emotional conditions...

These profile details can help us verify or eliminate suspects during the investigation, but now our investigation is stuck, and we really can't find any suspects."

"No, that's not what Luo An is talking about."

Chenier's eyes flickered, and Mona also quickly remembered something, shook her head at Reesi, and then looked at Luo An, asking:

"Do you think that there might be information left by the killer on the victims' bodies?"

"That's right."

Luo An gave Mona an "you understand me" look, coughed lightly, and explained seriously:

"Everyone, the first serial killing case involved 12 female bodies who were street performers.

Apart from the first 5 victims, who have been dead so long that they've turned to skeletons with few items left, the remaining 7 victims, although severely decomposed, still left a lot of things."

Previously, in the conference room, when several investigation leads for the first serial murder case were blocked and all agents were at a loss, Luo An then shifted his focus to the victims' bodies.

Later, before Mona and Michelle found a post on the Underworld website and the group went to New Jersey to capture Innis Heller, Luo An had taken a moment to visit the Trace Examination Department and had a brief chat with Forensic Doctor Kovard.

The chat wasn't long; Luo An hoped that Forensic Doctor Kovard would change the autopsy sequence, postponing the autopsy for the second case of serial killings by gunshot to the back of the head, and first deal with the victims' bodies from the first case of street performer deaths.

Considering Luo An's request, and the premium coffee beans he brought, Forensic Doctor Kovard didn't hesitate much and agreed right away.

"We are going with you."

After Luo An finished explaining, Mona and Chenier gave him a thumbs up, while Reesi, Winslow, and Michelle all expressed that they also wanted to go to the Trace Examination Department with Luo An.

However, Luo An declined everyone's request to go together; there was still unfinished work on his hands, so he only took Reesi and Chenier with him into the elevator.

"Good evening, Mr. Kovard."

"Good evening, Group Leader Luo An."

Luo An and Forensic Doctor Kovard shook hands and exchanged a few pleasantries, quickly getting to the point.

Forensic Doctor Kovard led the three to the physical evidence office and from a large cardboard box, took out three packages of transparent evidence bags, introducing:

"These are the clues we found on the bodies of those street performer victims."

Chenier took the transparent evidence bag and found several thin hairs inside. Reesi, standing beside, immediately perked up and hurriedly asked:

"Mr. Kovard, are these the murderer's hairs?"

"I'm not sure, but it's unlikely."

Forensic Doctor Kovard shook his head and waved over a white man in his thirties, wearing a lab coat and black-framed glasses, introducing him:

"This is my student, Agent Havier, who handles DNA testing and other trace analysis. You can ask him about these matters."

After finishing the introduction, Forensic Doctor Kovard left as he had other matters to attend to. Luo An shook hands with Agent Havier and asked:

"What's the deal with these hairs?"

"They were found on the bodies."

Agent Havier adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose and explained with a smile:

"The bodies of the Formwork Worker victims did not reveal any human white genetic material, only dimethicone from contraceptives.

There were no other human skin fragments or flesh in their fingernails; we only found these hairs on the four victims who died most recently and that did not belong to them."

Luo An nodded and then asked:

"Have DNA tests been done?"

"They have been done."

Agent Havier nodded, saw the expectant looks in Reesi and Chenier's eyes, and with a helpless smile, he retrieved several test reports from behind and handed them to the three, saying:

"We found 9 hairs in total, 3 of which came from a woman.

We identified her; she was an elderly woman who worked at the community center and had close ties with the deceased, having left this world due to liver cancer five months ago."

Luo An's expression remained unchanged as he examined the report, Chenier furrowed her brows, and after a few seconds of silence, Reesi looked up and asked:

"What about the other 6 hairs?"

"The remaining six hairs belong to two entities, but neither are human."

Agent Havier spread his hands and continued:

"Two of the hairs came from a dog. Our FBI internal database has never recorded canine DNA, so we couldn't trace it.

The other four hairs aren't real hairs at all; they are synthetic wigs from a doll's head."

After Agent Havier finished explaining, Reesi appeared slightly startled and after pondering for a few seconds said:

"That's indeed... an unexpected discovery."

"Truly, I didn't anticipate this either."

Agent Havier looked at Reesi's face, gave a slight nod with a smile, and Luo An put down the files in his hands, asking:

"Are there any other discoveries?"

"There are a few more findings, but they might be unrelated to the murderer or this serial killing case."

Agent Havier pulled out some more folders and handed them to Luo An, saying:

"According to the examinations, several of the female victims had experiences of consuming flour in the past…"

Half an hour later, Luo An and Chenier entered the elevator together. As they watched the numbers flash, Chenier said:

"This suspect is indeed very cautious, seemingly leaving no trace related to him."

"Not necessarily."

Luo An rested his chin on his hand and shook his head, pondering for a few seconds, then said:

"Let's look into that deceased old woman, see if there are any clues around her.

Also, that doll, we'll look into the manufacturing company, the transportation company, the doll's sales channels, and the buyers."

"This…"

Chenier looked troubled, without any immediate solution in mind, but after a moment of thought, she agreed.

Shortly after the two returned to the office area, Reesi walked into the room with a serious face, causing several people in the office area to look puzzled since this was the first time they had seen Reesi looking so troubled.

"Reesi, what happened?"
