Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Will to Survive!
Cold. Dark. Breath held.
Adam's body was dragged by the raging current, sinking into the darkness of the river. He tried to move his arms, but his body felt heavy.
No… I can't die here.
Gritting his teeth, Adam kicked upwards, struggling against the current. At that moment, he saw a shadow nearby—Mikasa, tightly holding onto the small child.
Mikasa!
With the last of his strength, Adam swam toward her. He grabbed Mikasa's hand and pulled her toward the surface.
SPLASH!!
They broke through the water, gasping for air.
"Ughh… are you okay?" Adam asked, his voice hoarse from the water in his throat.
Mikasa nodded, still holding the boy, who was now coughing and crying. "He's alive," she said, relieved.
Adam looked around. The river had carried them far from Shiganshina, now a burning hell.
In the distance, he spotted a small dock with a few boats tied up.
"There! That's our goal!" Adam pointed.
With great effort, they swam toward the dock. Once they reached it, Adam pulled Mikasa and the child onto the wooden planks before collapsing, panting heavily.
Mikasa sat down, still cradling the child, who was now drifting into exhausted sleep.
"We… we made it," she murmured softly.
Adam let out a small laugh. "Yeah… but we can't relax yet."
They still had to find safety—and more importantly, find the child's family.

A Hope for the Last Remaining Child
After hours of walking, they finally reached the refugee camp within the inner district.
Thousands of survivors gathered there, many crying over the loss of their families and homes.
Mikasa carried the sleeping boy in her arms. "How do we find his family?" she asked softly.
Adam sighed, glancing around. "We ask people if they recognize him."
They moved through the crowd, asking anyone they could. Until—
An elderly woman, her clothes covered in dirt, ran toward them with wide eyes.
"That's… that's my grandson!!"
Mikasa tensed. "His grandmother?"
The old woman sobbed, taking the child from Mikasa's arms and gently shaking him. "My dear… you're alive!"
The boy slowly opened his eyes. When he saw the old woman, his eyes widened.
"…Grandma?" his voice trembled.
Tears fell.
Adam and Mikasa stood in silence, watching the small reunion of what little remained of this family.
At that moment, Adam felt something strange in his chest.
Happiness… and sadness, all at once.
He knew this child had lost his parents, and his life would never be the same. But at least—he still had someone.
Unlike Adam.
Unlike Mikasa.
Mikasa glanced at Adam in silence, as if she understood exactly what he was thinking.
Adam let out a deep sigh and gave a faint smile. "Let's go."
Mikasa nodded.
They walked toward the inner district, where younger refugees were gathered.
And there—they saw two people they knew well.
Eren and Armin.
Eren sat on the ground, his head lowered, fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
Armin knelt beside him, his face full of sorrow and concern.
As Adam and Mikasa approached, Armin looked up, his eyes widening. "Adam… Mikasa…!"
Mikasa immediately spoke. "You're safe…"
Adam saw the relief in Armin's eyes—but he also saw something else.
Deep sadness.
Armin opened his mouth, but before he could speak—
"They're all dead."
Eren's voice was quiet, but filled with overwhelming fury.
He looked up, his eyes red and burning with hatred.
"My mother… she… she was eaten alive."
Mikasa fell silent.
Adam clenched his fists. He knew how much Carla meant to Eren.
But before he could say anything, Eren stood up, his entire body trembling with rage.
"Those Titans… they've taken everything from us."
Adam felt a chill crawl down his spine as he looked at Eren's face.
"We have to kill them all."
The air grew heavy.
Even Armin looked shaken by Eren's words.
But Adam knew—this wasn't just a fleeting rage.
Eren truly meant it.
Adam took a deep breath and locked eyes with him.
"…And you think you can do that alone?"
Eren glared at Adam. "If I have to fight alone, then I'll do it."
Adam let out a small laugh. "Stubborn as always."
Eren frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Adam crossed his arms. "I won't let my friend throw his life away."
Eren froze.
Adam looked at him seriously. "I'll fight too. I'll become stronger. And I'll make sure we survive in this world."
Mikasa, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke.
"I'm coming too."
Armin looked at all of them, then gave a small smile.
"…Then I'll come too."
Eren stared at them, his eyes glassy with emotion.
Then, he clenched his fists even tighter.
"…Alright."
He lifted his head, his eyes burning with determination.
"We're joining the military training corps."
Adam smirked. "Then we better start training harder."
