Chapter 12: Brown Shamal
As an Healer of Silver Rank, Charlotte's senses were exceptionally high so Max didn't doubt her words.
It was also because he could guess what would happen, as reading and writing all those novels had not been in vain.
He quickly looked around, trying to remember the details of the Blood Castle mini arc he had made and then discarded. It happened in the Sixth division of the first floor, so he had made a proper map leading to it.
He still remembered some details about it...
"There," Max's eyes lit up as he said, pointing towards a set of tunnels adjacent to the ones they had come from.
There were a total of twenty of them, one of which they had come from. Some were small and narrow, while others were big enough to fit whole groups of humans.
"What of it?" Stelle asked. "Do we need to enter it?"
"Yes, that's the one leading to our destination," Max said. "Listen well since we don't have much time..."
He quickly explained his plan to them, which was very simple but he was sure it would work. Well, even if it didn't work, it was all they had. Running won't work for one reason he knew well enough.
"Your plan is good, but it will take some time..." Charlotte muttered in worry.
"You can leave that part to me," Max winked at her.
Just then, they saw a small group of youngsters approaching them. In that group, there was also a middle-aged man walking behind them with a wine gourd in his hand.
At the front, a haughty young man with black, spiky hair and big eyes walked, carrying a sword in his hand. Beside him, another young man was carrying many fragments of golden paper.
The fragments of paper attracted each other to become one again, so it was easy to search for more fragments. That was how the young man had found them.
Seeing the group, Max raised an eyebrow as he recognised them. A murderous glint passed through his eyes, as he thought, 'Oh, boy! I never thought I'd meet you here.'
Stelle was paying close attention to him and frowned at his expression, thinking, 'Sus!'
"We found it! That man has the map," the young man holding the fragments shouted in excitement, pointing at Max. "He has one of them, young master."
The spiky-haired young man nodded and stopped a little distance away from them, his eyes scanning them, especially the two ladies.
'A classic young master. Oh! Boy!' Max smiled and asked, "I wonder why such a large group is stopping us?"
"Shut up and give that fragment of map now," the map holder shouted again, his eyes burning in excitement.
"Ho? And why should I? What am I getting in compensation?" Max asked, still with a smile on his face.
"Your life!" the map holder spat on the ground. "We will spare your life! Now, give me that."
He advanced forward but stopped when Max raised his sword. Gritting his teeth in anger, he was about to lash out, but his young master stopped him.
"Stop it, Randy," the young master, Brown, said. "As for you, it'll be good for both of us if you give it up nicely. I am Brown Shamal, young master of the Gold Rank Shamal Clan of Peiro City."
Hearing that, Max's eyes widened in shock, his hand trembling as fear gripped his heart. He forced out a smile and said, "Why didn't you say sooner, young master? The map belongs to you in the first place."
While Brown smirked at seeing him in such a state, Charlotte and Stelle just stood there speechless. If he hadn't revealed his plan beforehand, even they might have believed his act.
Randy snorted and snatched the fragment of map from him. It was then that his gaze landed on the two ladies standing behind Max, making Max almost roll his eyes.
'How pathetic was I to write such characters?' he mused.
[Bwhahaha! Deal with it!]
"Heh, you have wasted a lot of our time so it would be better if you let your companion accompany us," Randy said.
"W-What? Please don't bully this poor man, young master," Max looked shocked as he extended his hand to defend the two of them.
Brown spared a glance at Charlotte and a hint of lust passed through his eyes as he said, "You're too weak, young man. You can't protect them in these dangerous labyrinths so just let this young master help them."
All of a sudden, Max's bearing changed as fear vanished from his eyes, leaving only amusement behind in them.
"I'm sure you think you're gonna give me the gore," Max said, chuckling. "But I'll beat your ass so sore, it'll look like you had a prison tour!"
For a moment, there was a silence in the cave, as everyone let his words sink in, before a rageful scream resounded throughout the whole cave.
"How dare you!!!"
"Of course, I dare, you shit head. Even a random orphan with a grandpa on ring can solo you," Max mocked him, while giving a side glance at Stelle and Charlotte.
Brown's face turned red in anger as he pointed his fingers at him. He had just opened his mouth to say something when a low whisper sounded from all sides.
"Slow down!"
A white circle formed beneath them, covering just their group. It not only slowed down their reaction and moving speed, it also slowed down their thinking speed.
But Max knew it wouldn't work for long as he had sensed a Silver Ranker among them. And he was most likely a melee hunter, unlike Charlotte.
So, he had prepared for that too.
In the next moment, Stelle brought her hammer down at the rocky surface, shattering it instantly as it produced tremors around them.
Max swept his leg, raising the dust even more and shouted, "Bye bye, shit head!"
He didn't wait for any response as he threw Charlotte over his shoulder and ran towards the tunnel. Stelle was right behind him, escaping by using the dust as a shield.
They didn't want them to pursue them, after all.
