Leveling Endlessly With My Harem

Chapter 9: Leveling Up For The First Time

Mana Shards were everything in this world and hunters could use them to advance quickly. However, there was a limit to them as well.

Fighting soul battles with Remnants drained their Soul Energy, meaning they couldn't absorb many Mana Shards of higher level at once.

Not unless they have a way to replenish their soul energy.

There was also the fact that Mana leaked from Mana Shards every single second, so the more time that passed, the more mana would be drained from them.

Many people used this tactic to bring down the Remnants' strength and then absorb the Mana Shards. But it was quite wasteful.

Max had done the same thing, but it was unintentional. He simply didn't have enough time and space to absorb the Mana Shards.

After all, what if some monsters attacked him when he was absorbing the Mana Shards? He would be dead instantly.

So, while it hurt that the mana was lost, he didn't want to take risks.

As he watched the sparks of light merge with the grass field, Max thought, 'Stelle will probably do the same then. Maybe fight when its strength is Level 7 or something.'

The next moment he was thrown out of his soul sea, as everyone called it, and Max looked at his EXP count.

[EXP: 7.5/10]

"So, it only has half, huh," Max thought before crushing the other Mana Shard.

He proceeded to do that with every Mana Shard and absorbed them to get a total of 3.5 EXP. It also meant he crossed the bar needed to level up.

Calming his excited heart, Max rubbed his hands and asked, 'There won't be any problems, right? I mean, leveling up so quickly?'

[As in alerting someone powerful and all, like in those Xianxia novels? No, I'm handling that department, after all.]

'Noice!'

[What about those two, though? Are you going to tell them about your quick progress?]

'Yes and no. I'll keep it mysterious but still let them know of my power and potential,' Max said with a smile. 'If I need to save them, I need to let them know that I am strong enough to protect them from every danger.'

[True! Good luck. Do you want to level up now?]

'Yes, give me everything!!' Max screamed in his mind.

In the next moment, a warm current flooded his being, as he felt as though he were drowning under a heavy body of water. However, instead of suffocation, he felt liberated.

It was as if something inside him was breaking and improving at the same time. It was a bizarre sensation, but if he had to explain it then it would be like experiencing months of progress of going to gyms in a matter of seconds.

Of course, the gains were far more than he would ever get from going to a gym. Bronze Rank was the foundation of the whole power system and everyone needed to make themselves as strong as they possibly could.

As he let the warmth spread around his being, strengthening him, a thought passed through his mind as he asked, 'What about stats?'

[It will work as you have done in the novel.]

'I see!!'

Max sighed in bliss as he came out of the reverie and looked at his body. His eyes widened in shock, even though he had already known about the changes leveling up would bring.

His thin body had bulged slightly, with skin looking tougher and dense muscles rolling beneath the flesh like powerful steel cables. His vision was also clearly along with the improvement of all of his senses.

He could feel the power permeating throughout his being and that made him smile like a madman.

Max finally understood why so many people seemed obsessed with leveling up. It was addicting to see yourself grow and improve at a visible rate. It was thrilling and made him want it even more.

'Hehe, this is just the Bronze Rank, then what about higher ones? Legend? Mythic or perhaps... Apex Rank?'

He shuddered just thinking about it. As an Author, he knew everything about those ranks, but knowing and experiencing was a different thing. He had just experienced this by leveling up in Bronze Rank.

'I can't wait to reach there.'

[Power is an addiction so work hard to not let it get over your head. I don't want a power-hungry man who can't see anything else as my husband.]

'Don't worry, big sis. I value relationships more than strength,' Max smiled and spoke from the bottom of his heart.

[Good boy!]

Max rolled his eyes and tried to hide his smile by looking at his status which had changed.

...

[Status Screen]

Name: Maxwell Corelhelm

Rank: Level 3, Bronze Rank

Overall Level: 3

EXP: 4/48

Health: 100%

Stamina: 70%

Energy Reserves: 99%

...

'Hmm, so even killing such a high-leveled monster didn't bring me much EXP,' Max sighed in dejection.

[You literally jumped two whole levels just because of it. Do tell me who can do that in the whole world?]

Max fell silent, cursing himself for making the leveling progress so slow. It was kind of his fault, so he couldn't really say anything to Kafka.

Shaking his head, he stood up and began to jump around the small room which had a single illumination stone embedded on the ceiling.

He had never really practiced martial arts in both lives. But he had studied various types of fighting techniques to write in novels, so he just began to follow those movements.

Unfortunately, the sudden gain in his strength was throwing his balance off and it took some time before he could move properly.

Still, even he was astonished by the speed with which he was adapting to everything. After all, he had never killed anyone in his previous life too.

[That's an extra gift of mine. A hidden skill called adaptation. Don't bother about it.]

"Hehe, thanks as always," Max smiled and then walked out of the room.

He was really curious to see Charlotte's and Stelle's reactions to his growth, so he walked out with a wide smile on his face.

And it was worth it.
