Chapter 31: Chapter 30: The Venomous Decision
The Watchtower was as quiet as ever, orbiting high above the Earth, an impenetrable fortress of technology and vigilance. The hum of machinery echoed softly through the vast halls, screens flickering with constant data from around the world. It was the nerve center of the Justice League, a place where some of the most powerful beings in the universe gathered to protect the planet.
Inside the monitoring room, John Constantine stood casually, leaning against a sleek metal console, a steaming cup of coffee in hand. He took a slow sip, his trench coat draped lazily over his shoulders as he surveyed the scene before him.
Alex stood near the center of the room, arms crossed, his gaze shifting between the two figures before him—Batman and Martian Manhunter.
Batman's cowl-shrouded eyes were narrowed in suspicion, his presence as imposing as ever, while Martian Manhunter stood tall, his green skin glowing faintly under the dim lighting of the Watchtower's control room.
Then, Constantine spoke.
"We found the source of the Soul-Sucked Corpses."
Batman's eyes narrowed further, his analytical mind already processing the implications. Alex, meanwhile, turned toward Manhunter, waiting for a reaction.
But before anyone could respond—
A tendril of black shot out from Alex's side, extending outward and forming into a toothy, grinning head with white, jagged eyes.
"So this is the Batman, huh?" Venom's deep voice echoed through the room, full of amusement. "Oh, and I guess we've got two aliens in the room, huh?"
Constantine chuckled, shaking his head as he took another sip of his coffee.
Batman, however, remained silent, his glare fixated on the symbiote as if analyzing every possible threat Venom could pose.
Alex sighed. "Alright, let's just get this over with. Before you ask, Batman—yes, this is THE Venom. The one from Marvel Comics. And before you ask how he got here—he doesn't know."
Manhunter tilted his head slightly, his red eyes flickering with curiosity.
"You claim he is from these 'comics?' Then I must ask... what do we do with him?"
Before Alex could respond, Venom spoke again, his elongated head-tendril shifting slightly as he turned toward Batman.
"I want a different host."
This actually made Batman blink.
"This guy has way too much power for my liking," Venom continued, retracting his tendril slightly. "I prefer a little challenge, and let's be real, I ain't doing much when I'm strapped to a guy who could probably punch reality if he wanted to."
Silence settled over the room.
Batman still hadn't said a word.
The atmosphere grew heavier, tension filling the air as the Dark Knight simply stared at Venom, his mind calculating a thousand different possibilities.
Finally, it was Alex who broke the silence.
"How about we let someone in the Justice League take him? Like... say... Manhunter?"
Martian Manhunter raised an eyebrow.
"Why me?"
Alex smirked. "Well, you both have a certain weakness to fire, so this seems like a match made in heaven."
Manhunter turned toward Batman.
"Fine," Batman said after a moment. "But if those comics are anything to go by, he's eating ONLY chocolate."
Venom huffed. "Fine. I suppose that's fair."
Then, without warning, the black symbiote erupted from Alex's body like a liquid shadow, tendrils flailing as it surged toward the Martian.
Manhunter didn't flinch as the black mass wrapped around his green form, covering him like living armor, sinking into his very being.
The moment Venom merged with him, he felt it.
The telekinetic power. The shapeshifting abilities. The sheer potential within this new host.
Venom hummed in approval.
"Indeed… this is a more symbiotic choice than Eddie was. Although..." his voice grew softer. "No one will ever truly replace Eddie."
Alex stretched his arms, feeling oddly lighter now that the symbiote had left him.
"Well, that's settled. Now, can I get a Boom Tube back to Metropolis? I still have a kid and girlfriend to take care of."
Batman, without a word, turned to the console and pressed a few buttons. A bright circular portal opened in the center of the room—a Boom Tube, ready to take Alex back home.
Without hesitation, Alex stepped through.
The portal closed behind him, leaving only Constantine, Batman, and the now Venom-enhanced Martian Manhunter in the room.
Constantine took another sip of his coffee before finally speaking.
"Interesting, huh, Bats?" he mused. "Don't worry—we'll get to the bottom of how a comic character managed to appear in our world."
Batman didn't respond.
He simply stood there, arms crossed, his mind working through the implications of what had just transpired.
But little did anyone know—
Only two people in that room understood the true nature of their world.
Alex... and Venom.
And Venom?
Venom was simply thinking about the irony of the situation.
After all—
'Luckily, I secretly put a bit of me on someone else.'
