Chapter 1048: As strong as I thought [1/2]
When I came out of the room, I noticed that the people coming and going had increased yet again. Nandi and Zinhle were still restoring corpses. The pile they were working on had grown rather than decreased.
As for the attacking units, the Awakened, Wolves, and the Aegis division were taking turns at the various gates. Amari and Olamide were busy speaking with the new princes they had just recruited. It looked chaotic.
When I left, two of my girls were present; now all seven are here. Bella was still "online." Jo was busy brainwashing a third group of princes, while the rest of my girls were resting.
When they saw me come out, they all immediately got up and approached me. Seeing how they stopped whatever they were doing the moment I arrived made me happy. It showed my value in their lives. I felt both their respect and attention.
Jo even abandoned the group of princes she was working with midway.
Like robots that haven't been booted up, the Africans all just stood still like statues. Seeing that, I gestured to Jo to finish up before coming to me. She puffed her cheeks adorably before clapping her hands.
"Okay! Alright, everyone, you will now wait for the Seraphs to come back. Sit!"
Chuckling at my woman's bizarre orders, I chose to let it pass. I didn't really care much about them anyway. We only had two Seraph units, and they were part of the two batches of brainwashed princes. Jo would probably just combine them at some point.
The Sirens all threw themselves into my embrace. We only parted for a short while, but I loved hugging them like this. And from the emotions that flowed through their links, they did so too.
"Everyone, Pierre gave me some new info. I want to change the plan you made. I know that it is troublesome to do so, but please listen; is that all right?"
Instead of complaining about my sudden actions, the girls all smiled and nodded.
"Of course, my love. I, no, we hold your opinion in high regard."
"As you are not really averse to evil actions, this must be related to us in some way, right, Dearest?"
"Bloody Oath! Only something related to a Siren can get Possum to move."
"It will be troublesome for sure, but we know you always have us in your best interest, Honey. Go on, spill the beans."
"It must have been quite significant to warrant a change this late in the operation, Husband. Do you wish to discuss it over dinner?"
"Shujin, let us talk over a quick meal; Jas and I have prepared food. You have yet to eat for over half a day now."
Jo, who just arrived, came at me like a comet: "DARLING! I don't mind it either!"
I caught my shooting star and wrapped my arms around her waist. We spun a few times to kill her momentum. I then gently set her down as I replied to my girls.
"Okay, then let us share a quick meal in a private room. Exa, please handle everything else."
[I understand, my lord. I will have the whole team take a break as well. I will send you a message before we resume; our pace is faster than expected, so we have some leeway until the assault later.]
"Thank you, Exa. Let's go, everyone."
"Yes!" x7
The girls and I moved into another private room and ate our dinner. Of course, the girls were much more interested in flirting than in what the Mauritian had to say. I explained what I learned from Pierre between bites.
"What does everyone think? I apologize for deciding on my own, but I want to take his advice," I explained.
"I don't mind, Beloved, I care not for murdering the defenseless, so I am aboard."
"Hmm, Blanche really helped us by sending Pierre. I doubt anyone could have convinced Dearest to stand down. I am in favor of the change in plan."
"Well, at least we got some use out of him. I doubt the Immortal cares about his kids or his family. Not after the crap he made Nelle go through. I'll vote for whatever you want, Possum."
"Hmm, it will not be as fun, but I already verified [Cipher] anyway. If this is what Darling wants, I don't mind."
"I would have preferred the original plan; after all, if we do not manage to get Africa 100% on our side, they are extremely dangerous. A civil war minimizes that risk. Honey, I will ask again. Do you trust the Africans enough to choose this option?"
At Bella's question, I tried to remember what I knew about the Africans. Unlike their humans, Africa's Reapers were powerful. Their royalty was both noble and worthy of admiration. And there were people like Nomvula who served in their armies.
And while they had a few bastards up top, who didn't? For all of Africa's mistakes, they were like everyone else. They just did what they had to do to survive. Bella's concern grew from the possibility of our trust being betrayed.
Truthfully, once we arm Amari's faction and cleanse Hannibal, Africa would be much stronger. The same strength could be used to hurt us. I knew it; the girls did too. If Africa and Hell's Eden came to blows, we would lose.
"If such is your price, then I am certain we can pay it. If there is one thing Africa has in excess, it is the will to end the undead."
That was the response Amari Soldat gave to me. Even his mother said something similar.
"I am, Successor. Please help me save my continent. If you do, I vow that Africa will offer Hell's Eden her full support in whatever she needs to close Hellsgate."
While I did not know every one of the Africans, I did know the hearts of the Soldats. And I trusted them. The only question was, was it enough to risk the life of my family for?
"I don't know, Bella," I confessed.
"Then why, Husband? Who do you choose this plan for?"
"Shujin, if you say us, we will understand. But we all can see that your fear of the Immortal's vengeance is misplaced. We will use the Awakened as scapegoats. We are in no danger."
"I-I…"
At Aki words, they cut straight to the heart of the matter. Jas probably already had an inkling as well. I might have said that I was fine with butchering the families of the princes, but it seemed that I wasn't.
I kept saying that I had to do it, that I had no choice. And I hated it. So much so that when a different option presented itself, I jumped at opportunity. Feeling like crap, I confessed to the girls in weak spirits.
"I am sorry, my {Kindred}. I do not seem to be as strong as I thought I was."
I should be fine with the actions we had to do. It was for the Sirens, but when there was now a choice, I began to waver. But rather than rebuke me, the girls all smiled.
Each came closer then kissed me tenderly. I almost melted from the affection of their actions. Their links boiled with a fiery passion as our hearts all began to beat faster. Every time their skin brushed against mine, my love for them began to well up.
"Shujin, you are not weak. You are strong. You wish to save the innocent. Your heart is that of a hero. Such tendencies are why you shine so brightly. You have nothing to be sorry for."
