Chapter 102 Golem Dungeon [Part 3]
"The crystals are in the new room" Mari spoke as she led the way there.
The next room was smaller and had 8 different paths that led deeper into the dungeon.
"I've only explored 4 of the paths; the crystals are in the room farthest to the right, then the next room after that is empty, and the next, then the fourth one is the way down to the third level," Mari said.
"Do you haven't gone into the other four because you found the way, what if something better than the Mana crystal is in one of these paths?" Xavier asked.
"Maybe or maybe not, since I already found the way forward, I didn't think I needed to check, and I'm sure two of them would be dead ends like these two," Mari spoke.
"Alright"
"Do you want to explore them? I can mine the Mana crystal while you explore them; it's going to take a while," Mari spoke.
"That's not a bad idea"
"When I'm done, I'll let you know; please don't venture too far; dungeons like this are unpredictable, but the good thing is that they're no traps," Mari said.
"Alright then," Xavier spoke, and Mari made her way into the path that led to the crystal while Xavier stood in front of the path farthest to the left.
'I wonder what I'll find'
Xavier moved forward, staying alert with his sword in his hands, the path was dark, but with his [Night Vision], he could see clearly, and he continued forward till he saw light ahead.
Xavier arrived in another room. The room was lit with crystal, but another thing caught his eye: a gargoyle.
He wasn't sure if they were alive or not, but this was a stone golem dungeon, and they were made of stone, so he knew they were alive.
He counted five of them with his eyes perched close to the ceiling sitting on stone edges that jutted from the walls.
Xavier walked around the room, waiting for them to come to life, but they didn't. There was nothing else interesting, and the room was a dead end, so he walked towards the entrance, and a smile formed on his face.
"I'm getting a hang of sensing Mana," Xavier spoke as he turned towards one of the gargoyles and continued staring at it.
"I think they are shy, I should introduce myself, [Frost Reflection]"
In front of Xavier, a mirror formed, and from the mirror, his ice counterpart emerged; a clone of Xavier emerged from the mirror, and immediately, he felt all his strength leaving his body as he fell to his knees.
[Inventory]
Xavier asked, bringing out the four remaining ice wolf crystals he got from the other dungeon and using [Arcane Siphon] to drain the Mana from all the crystals.
[Arcane Siphon]
[+15 Mana]
[+2 Mana absorbed]
[Mana: 61/158]
Each of the wolf crystals recovered 15 Mana and increased his Mana capacity by 2, bringing his total to 158.
He knew Mirabel's spell consumed Mana, but he didn't expect his entire Mana reserve to be emptied from just the spell.
[Ice Clone]
[Strength 74%]
Xavier stared at her information in front of him; even with all his Mana, the clone still wasn't at full strength, meaning to cast the spell and not suffer drawbacks, his Mana capacity had to be at least 200.
If it was one gargoyle, he could take it on, but with 5 of them, he needed someone to watch his back, and who better watch his back than himself?
Xavier picked a stone from the ground and aimed at the gargoyle, but before he could throw it, the gargoyle turned its head towards him.
"Alright, here we go," Xavier muttered as he held his sword tightly. Soon, all five of the gargoyles turned towards him, and in one swoop, all of them spread their wings, charging toward Xavier and his clone.
Xavier braced himself as the five gargoyles launched off the walls, their stone wings slicing through the air with a deafening roar. His ice clone mirrored his stance, sword at the ready.
The first gargoyle dove toward Xavier, claws outstretched. Xavier sidestepped, bringing his sword across its chest in a powerful slash.
The ice clone followed up, stabbing the gargoyle in the back, cracking its stone body. The creature crumbled into chunks on the floor.
Two more gargoyles attacked simultaneously.
Xavier parried the first one's claws, sparks flying as metal met stone. The ice clone intercepted the second, slashing its wings and forcing it to crash to the ground. Xavier seized the moment, driving his blade through the grounded gargoyle's head.
The fourth gargoyle swooped low, aiming for Xavier's legs. He jumped back, but its tail whipped toward him, catching his side and sending him stumbling. Before it could follow up, the ice clone slammed into it, forcing it against the wall, and its body shattered.
The final gargoyle hovered above, assessing the situation. It let out a screech and charged at Xavier with full force. Xavier dodged at the last second, but the gargoyle's momentum carried it into the ice clone, which slashed its sword, shattering the gargoyle.
"Feels too easy, wait I didn't even shatter any one of their cryst..." Xavier turned around to see all the gargoyles, their body recreating, and immediately, all of them took flight.
"Yeah, I thought so; aim for the crystal core...wait, how...they can move their core around their body," Xavier chuckled as he took a stance.
The gargoyle core wasn't fixed, it moved around their body.
The gargoyles took to the air again, their stone wings making heavy beats as they circled Xavier and his clone. Xavier's grip tightened on his sword, his eyes narrowing as he tracked their movements.
"Moving cores, huh? Guess this won't be straightforward," he muttered.
One of the gargoyles dived first, claws glinting in the crystal light.
Xavier sidestepped, his sword flashing as he struck its chest. The gargoyle reeled back, but Xavier's strike only grazed its rocky surface—its core wasn't there.
