Chapter 163 Wish
Xavier stood on top of the fallen Cerberus, his body trembling as he tried to catch his breath, Xavier still couldn't believe what had happened.
His sword slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor.
He could barely feel his arms anymore.
Smoke rose from the burns across his body, and blood dripped from his wounds. His [Regeneration] was still working perfectly, but the time he spent close to the Cerberus was too much for his Mana cost to handle.
His throat was dry, every swallow was painful, but none mattered as he had won. He had beaten all ten floors.
For the first time since he had entered, there was no growl, no footsteps, no screams, no claws scraping against stone.
Just silence. He looked down at the Cerberus one last time, then stumbled forward. His legs gave out, and he fell to the ground but his back didn't touch the ground as the dark mist caught him halfway and placed him gently on the ground.
Flat on his back, Xavier stared at the ceiling, his chest rising and falling heavily.
His vision blurred, and for a moment, he thought he might pass out. But then another thought came...Sylve.
He closed his eyes, seeing her face in his mind, he knew he wouldn't have made it this far without her.
Xavier felt something, and then a figure appeared in front of him. The god of death had a smile on his face as he stood over Xavier.
"You know I had a feeling this was going to be good. This is the sixth time someone has attempted the final floor, and the second time a human has conquered it." He spoke as he bent down and placed his hands on Xavier's head.
Xavier felt a rush immediately within him, and a second later, he sat up his body was completely healed, his stamina, which had depleted as soon as he defeated the Cerberus, was replenished, and Xavier stood on his feet.
The god of death snapped his finger, and both of them appeared in another room. The god sat on his throne, high on a platform, while Xavier was on the ground, looking up to him.
"You have completed the Tower of Trials, and for that, you are granted two wishes. So, speak…But before you ask the obvious, know this, I cannot bring anyone back from the dead," the god spoke.
Xavier's face was expressionless. No anger, no surprise. He only took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"I thought it was just one wish," Xavier said flatly. "Why do I get two?"
The god raised a brow. "That is your question?"
"Why are you surprised?" Xavier asked, his tone sharp.
"Were you waiting for me to beg for the impossible? I'm not stupid. When you brought us here, your real aim was to give us trials meant to kill us, then feast on our souls. You won't bring anyone back to life." His voice tweaked just slightly as a single tear slipped down his cheek.
"So answer my question."
The god of death leaned back, almost amused.
"Your goddess and I made a deal. If you won, I would grant you two wishes instead of one. If you lost…" He paused, a smile forming on his face. "Then I would claim her next champion. But you won."
Xavier nodded once. "Alright then, first of all, I'm taking this sword back with me to the land of the living."
The god's eyes narrowed. "That sword holds the demon Kaan. If he breaks free in your world, I will have to stop him myself because no one else can. But… I will allow it, on one condition."
"I don't care about your condition," Xavier cut him off. "My first wish is the sword."
The god's tone sharpened. "What! You waste a wish on a sword? Do you understand what you're throwing away? I hold earth-shattering spells, and you choose… that sword?"
"I want the sword," Xavier said simply, his voice unshaken.
The god's eyes glimmered. "Kaan has spoken to you. That must be the reason. But you should know, he is not as 'friendly' as he pretends."
Xavier's lips curved. "Oh, I know. He already told me himself. Besides…" He glanced at the blade.
"Why would I need earth-shattering spells when I can shatter it myself?"
For a moment, silence filled the room. Then the god gave a short laugh. "Very well. You have the sword. Now… what is your second wish?"
Xavier stared at the god and spoke. "Before that, I want a favor. I'm sure it won't be a problem for you."
The god tilted his head. "A favor? You're asking for a favor, well then what is it?"
"I want you to repair Sylve's staff," Xavier spoke as he opened his inventory and brought out Sylve's staff, which was breaking apart.
[Inventory]
Without replying the god snapped his finger and the staff turned brand new just like the first time Sylve held it.
Xavier placed the staff back into the inventory. He had Dragonborn's staff, too, but none of the staff was like his sword, so it wasn't a problem; both staffs were simply magic amplifiers.
"So do you want a spell for your next wish?"
"Before that I have a question, the dragon we faced, does it belong to you, or was it fighting for its survival like me?" Xavier asked.
"You want the dragon? She was fighting for her survival after dying in battle, but I haven't consumed her soul yet. I thought she would make a good part of my tower," The god spoke.
"I want her as my second wish," Xavier said immediately, and a smile formed on the face of the god.
"Bring out the dragon crystal I gave you; you haven't absorbed it yet, so I can revive her back in her complete state, or do you want a new one?" The god asked.
"It's fine" Xavier spoke as he opened his [Inventory] again and brought out the dragon crystal.
