Chapter 164 Dragon
"Bring out the dragon crystal I gave you; you haven't absorbed it yet, so I can revive her back in her complete state, or do you want a new one?" The god asked.
"It's fine" Xavier spoke as he opened his [Inventory] again and brought out the dragon crystal.
Xavier could ask for something else, but this was a good chance to fast-track his journey, and he had no idea if he would get a dragon if he went to the mountain.
If the god of death could bring back the dragon they fought with her strength and abilities, it would be a win-win situation for him, he wouldn't need to stress himself, and after this, he could return home.
The god of death leaned forward, his fingers tapping against the armrest of his throne. His smile widened as Xavier brought out the crystal.
"You truly are interesting, Xavier. Of all the things you could ask for… you choose a sword cursed with a demon and a dragon who once tried to kill you. I guess you're like the first person in that regard"
Xavier didn't reply. His eyes stayed fixed on the crystal in his palm. The dragon crystal flickered in his hand. He could sense the Mana within. If he absorbed the crystal, he would get a massive boost.
The god snapped his fingers.
At once, the air changed. Xavier felt the crystal getting hotter but he didn't flinch.
The crystal was getting even hotter, and both Xavier and the god of death were staring at it till it shattered.
The crystal shattered in Xavier's hand, the shards dissolving into ash.
Red flames burst upward from the ground, twisting and swirling until they took shape, and the dragon that Xavier faced was now in front of him.
Xavier heard a roar that shook the walls, the sound so loud it made Xavier's ears ring, and he knew exactly what it was. And as the flame dimmed, the shape began to change.
The giant body of scales and wings shrank, folding in on itself, bending and shifting. Claws turned to hands. Fangs dulled into teeth. Wings melted away into flesh and bone.
In front of Xavier, where the dragon once stood, a human figure appeared, and Xavier recognized her; she was covered by a red cloak.
Her eyes opened slowly, and in front of her was Xavier.
The moment her eyes met him, she stood up and jumped backwards, her mouth opened the next moment, but nothing came out, then she looked around and saw the god of death behind her.
"I haven't brought you back yet, so the last thing you remember is this human killing you. Rest assured, I won't consume you anymore," The god spoke.
The woman's chest rose and fell quickly as she stared at Xavier, her hands clenched tightly at her sides.
"You…" she whispered, her voice sharp, trembling between anger and confusion. "You killed me...you bastard human, you cheated...how did he defeat me without cheating?"
Xavier didn't deny it. "I didn't, I won fair"
Her eyes narrowed, glowing faintly as she stared at Xavier. She looked ready to attack, but the god of death raised his hand lazily, almost bored.
"Enough. You were weaker so you died, and even if I let the two of you fight you would still die, also you should be happy...he wasted his wish to bring you back to life, he's going to take you back to the world of the living"
The dragon woman froze, her jaw tight. She glanced back at Xavier, then at the god.
For a moment, silence filled the throne room, broken only by her uneven breathing then she turned towards Xavier.
"Why?" she finally asked, her voice low. "Why would you bring me back?"
"Because I needed a dragon and I don't want to waste a trip to the mountain and not get chosen, since I'm here, it's easy," Xavier replied.
"You need a dragon, you're a human and not a weak one, why would you need a dragon?"
"Transportation... I'm currently in the land of beasts, and I need to make it back to human lands, either by a ship or a dragon; those are my two best choices," Xavier spoke.
"How are you in the land of the beasts, there are no humans there...and why do you think I would accept?" She asked Xavier.
"You already brought me back, he can't take me back" She spoke as she turned towards the god.
"She's right, if you return... she'll regain her powers and can leave you if she desires," The god replied with a smirk on his face.
"It's fine... I've killed you before, I'll just do it again" Xavier replied as he turned towards the god of death.
The dragon woman's face twisted with rage, her fists trembling at her sides. Her eyes locked onto Xavier like she wanted to burn a hole through him.
"You arrogant human!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the throne room.
"You think because you caught me off guard once that you are stronger? I want a rematch! Right here, right now!"
"I'll crush you this time," she hissed. "I'll tear you apart and show you that dragons do not bow to humans."
Xavier didn't flinch. His expression stayed calm as a smile formed on his face. "If that's what you want… then fine. But it won't be the way you think, last time it was four of us, but this time it's just me"
He turned his eyes toward the god of death, who was still lounging on his throne with an amused smile.
"I want another favor," Xavier spoke.
The god raised a brow. "Another one? You already used both of your wishes, Xavier."
"This won't cost you anything," Xavier said firmly.
"Make it a condition. If I win again, she has no choice but to serve me. A bond."
The god of death's grin widened. "Oh… I like that. A forced pact" He leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand. "But what if you lose?"
"Then I'll remain here" Xavier replied.
