Chapter 441: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Twenty-Three Out of Control_2
The elf woman before Lynch was the complete opposite of Lynch's Eye of Insight. Her eyes were entirely milky white, as if she was born without pupils, resembling those elderly individuals who had lost their vision due to illness. However, from her expression, no one would think that this elf couldn't see anything. No matter where you stood in front of her, you would feel her gaze falling upon you—perhaps it was an illusion, or maybe it was the audience's inner desire to attract the woman's attention. Although one couldn't decipher the elf woman's thoughts from her gaze, it was this sense of incompleteness that enhanced her allure. Each person's mind harbored different thoughts, making her the perfect embodiment in anyone's eyes.
However, those eyes of hers were not Lynch's eyes and didn't possess the ability to see through Invisibility. Even standing face to face with the mage, the elf showed no sign of detecting Lynch's actions. Yet, the mage was dumbfounded by the sight before him; although he had witnessed numerous wonders, he could not have imagined beauty reaching such an extent.
"If there were a goddess of allure, she ought to look like this," Lynch thought to himself.
Suddenly, a red flash appeared in the female elf's eyes. Initially weak and ready to extinguish at any moment, it soon became an Elf Language symbol in her pupils. Lynch gazed at this strange transformation, his mind nearly blank. The character expressed the shortest word in Elf Language: "I." The mage had never heard of such an occurrence, and even the massive libraries of the Mage Association held no records of such phenomena.
The female elf stood still for a while longer, allowing the pouring rain to drench her marble statue-like body. Lynch couldn't resist wanting to wave his hand to shield her from the rain with his Power Wall Technique, but what he saw next was even more incredible.
A gust of wind blew, and the elf woman disappeared as if she had never appeared in the Residual Star Swamp. Like a mirage in the desert, always vanishing when a lost traveler nears; or like a ghost that had just regained eternal serenity, suddenly dispersed by the wind. She disappeared without warning in front of Lynch, leaving the mage completely unprepared.
There was no magical fluctuation, nor could it be the effect of an Illusion Technique. Lynch was confident that his Eye of Insight would not be interfered with. Few people in the world were like the Elf Queen, and it was impossible for an unknown power to suddenly appear and disrupt the Eye of Insight's abilities.
Moreover, even the Elf Queen could not perform a disappearing act like that.
Lynch snapped back to reality, starting to rationalize the situation before him. He was not worried about the female elf's means of departure, but rather this elf who had never appeared in the Elf Kingdom—is she friend or foe? What was her purpose in appearing in such a sensitive area?
Thinking of this, the mage wasted no time and flew back to Heather's dwelling. As soon as he left the Residual Star Swamp, the torrential rain ceased entirely, and the grass unexpectedly became refreshing without any traces of the rain's havoc. Since Flying Magic couldn't be used at the peak of the Holy Mountain, he hurried towards the Empress's residence, hoping to gain enough information there.
"Mage sir!" Caidi, the elf, had been awaiting Lynch's return. Although the mage appeared in a hurry, he still called out to him: "The Empress has indicated that the Undead army's movements have been detected at the border. The battle, just as you foresaw, has begun."
"What?" Lynch shook his head. There should still be ten days until the night of the three dark moons. Why didn't they wait until then to act: "Has the Elf Queen already entered the Prayer Temple?"
"Yes, mage sir." Caidi replied: "I've been waiting for you for five days. If I didn't see you soon, I was about to join the battle myself."
Lynch's mouth dropped open, unable to believe what he heard. He immediately pressed a hand on the elf guard's shoulder: "Five days? You're saying I was away for five days?"
"Yes. Many people were worried about where you went." Though uncomfortable with such direct physical contact with the mage, Caidi quickly answered his question.
"This is impossible!" Lynch exclaimed: "Using Flying Technique, it wouldn't have taken more than a day for a round trip. What happened to the four missing days in between?"
