Mage Legend

Chapter 483: Travel and Non-Travel Travel Chapter Thirty-Five Knight_3

Knight Macken patiently watched the group of young people in front of him, keeping his mouth shut. Perhaps this scene reminded him of his own participation in the Paladin trials when he was young. After a while, he said, "How do you plan to head north now? I suggest taking the land route as it's more reliable. During this season, the sea is always beset by storms. Although I'm not a sailor, rarely do ships arrive at Moon Harbor City at this time of the year."

"We've decided to go by sea," Lynch said. "We'll head to Yim first and then plan from there based on the situation. I suppose nothing will happen on this leg of the journey, right?"

"If you say so, I agree," Macken nodded. "I know a captain, and his ship is in the harbor right now. It's a very good vessel."

"That makes things even more convenient," Lynch said as he instantaneously stored a large pile of his purchases into his Spatial Bag, a scene that left Uncle Barrel Bob stunned. Though he had encountered many people, he rarely served mages, let alone witnessed Magic Items firsthand.

What surprised him even more was that this young mage unexpectedly produced five gemstones from nowhere. Though not as large as the previous two, their quality was exceptional. The mage handed the items to Bob and then said to Macken, "Sir Knight, please help prepare the necessities for the journey, as complete as possible." Lynch patted Soka's head and said, "I hope the journey is as easy as possible."

Macken, watching the little girl playing with her pet, allowed a rare smile to appear on his face. He nodded and then pulled Uncle Barrel Bob towards the dock. As she watched the innkeeper sweating and panting, Zilvra whispered to Lynch, "I recall a creature from the Underworld, the Sloth Beast."

"It's a bit like that, yes," Lynch felt quite relaxed now, as many tedious matters no longer needed his attention. He now wanted to find a quiet place to experiment with the new skills he had learned. After buying some simple candies for Soka, the three of them returned to the inn.

Although they arranged the ship and prepared all possible necessities for the journey that same day, they didn't rush to set off. Lynch locked himself in the room alone, casting spells on the items meant for Soka and Zilvra. Uncle Barrel Bob and Captain Jebor of the "Seashell" were somewhat dissatisfied, one because of the strange lights and sounds intermittently coming from Lynch's room, the other because of the passengers' disrespect for the sailing plans. However, once they received gemstones worth far more than their losses, all the delays became justifiable.

So when Lynch emerged from the room ten days later, no one complained to him. When the mage handed a thin sword and a short bow to the two ladies, he received two puzzled responses.

"Brother Lynch, why is this bowstring so light?" Soka looked at the mage, holding up the short bow, and said, "Won't the arrows it shoots out lack power?"

The mage said nothing, only handed her an arrow. Soka, half believing, half doubting, nocked the arrow, aimed outside the window, and released the bowstring. Except for Lynch, everyone present wanted to see how powerless the bow would be, imagining how a feeble arrow would awkwardly fly through the air, but they saw nothing.

The arrow left no trace of its flight and vanished from everyone's sight. Except for the faint "whoosh" sound in the air, no one believed the shooting process had already concluded.

"Just use it carefully; don't aim it around recklessly, as its range is quite far," Lynch said. "The most interesting part is that when you grow up, this bow will gradually enlarge with you."

The little angel now happily held her newly acquired item, nodding vigorously. Having witnessed the magical ability of the short bow, Zilvra looked at the double spiral-shaped thin sword in her hand and decided to uncover its secrets herself.

Macken was pondering the great impact such a weapon could have on warfare, as a ranged bow with such firing speed would fundamentally change the form of battle. Meanwhile, different calculations were playing out in Bob's mind.

"Truly a mage, no wonder they're so rich," Uncle Barrel thought. "If that weapon just now were sold, it would be invaluable, and the strange styled thin sword could be even more magical. If mages couldn't become wealthy at this pace, that would be the real rarity."

Only Lynch understood the difficulty of creating these two items. Without using the methods of ancient Arcanists, it would take at least another fifty years for Lynch to create these weapons. Although modern spells are more refined and theoretically comprehensive, too many constraints inhibit mages' innovation in magic. Compared to the Magic Network, the Magic Origin that Lynch uses now is much freer, and while its power is indeed wild, it also offers great convenience in creating Magic Items. These two items both contain the power of the third scroll; they have a certain degree of Life Force and are growth-capable Magic Items. Though Lynch hasn't yet figured out the essence of intelligent Magical Items, it is only a matter of time before he gets the answer.

If he added the fourth "Spatial Scroll" and the fifth "Divine Artifact Power," Lynch couldn't imagine to what level his magical prowess would rise. However, whenever he thinks of the thousands of Great Arcanists from history who had learned all five scrolls, he understands their predecessors' motivation to challenge the divine.

"Okay, now I have everything prepared," Lynch pulled his thoughts back to the present. "It's time to go see our ship."

"That would be best," Macken said. "If we delay a few more days, the strong winds at sea will be unfavorable for our voyage. Everything has been loaded onto the ship and we're ready to depart at any time."

"Let's do it that way," Lynch said. "Zilvra, I'll explain your weapon's functions in detail after we board. Soka, don't forget to bring your pet. For some reason, I already smell the scent of the sea."

"That's because you've secluded yourself in that room for too long and haven't breathed fresh air in a while," Zilvra said, constantly waving the thin sword in her hand, hoping to discover its secret. "This weapon is truly strange; it feels like it has no ability at all."

"It does, absolutely," Lynch patted Bob's shoulder, a gesture of parting with the innkeeper.

"Goodbye," Uncle Barrel felt that the young lady waving her thin sword was always aiming at his chin, as if wanting to test her new weapon there, causing him to feel a bit apprehensive. He hastily stepped back a pace, making way for the staircase leading to the exit, and with the utmost courtesy, bid farewell to the group.

"Hope to see you again," he said softly, wiping his sweat.
