Chapter 146: Starship Troopers
George returned from Triskelion the next day. Based on the timeline, the Kree's next visit to Earth was not far off.
Although George had already made many deployments within Earth, outer space defense was still a blank area. Besides some reconnaissance satellites, there was no defensive power whatsoever.
Considering the Kree Empire's strength, he naturally couldn't pin his hopes on the Kree's mercy. George realized that he needed to prepare Earth for a far more advanced and formidable threat.
So, he continued his multiversal survey for a world that had successfully dealt with massive, alien scale threats.
After scanning through several realities, George paused at one. He had read about it in past database logs. A militaristic Earth fighting an alien species with high tenacity. "Perfect," he muttered.
This world, despite its grim tone, had exactly the experience he needed in defensive warfare and civil military mobilization. Without wasting more time, George locked onto the coordinates and shifted into the universe of Starship Troopers.
The story is set in a future where Earth humans have entered the federal era. The people of the Human Federation are composed of "Citizens" or "Civilians."
At 18, every "Civilian" has the right to participate in at least two years of "federal service." During this service, they might join the military, become guinea pigs to test survival equipment, or perform physical labor.
They can quit at any time during this period, but if they do, they will forever lose the chance to become a Citizen. Only by completing "federal service" can one become a "Citizen" and enjoy the corresponding rights.
George found the system fascinating. A unique form of structured meritocracy. While the idea of citizenship earned through service had its flaws, it did ensure resilience and duty in wartime.
An Arachnid Bug meteorite struck Mars, and the Human Federation discovered the existence of the Bugs for the first time. Subsequently, the scout cruiser Koski was dispatched, and following the trail, they found the Bug homeworld Klandathu.
This marked the first historical contact between humans and Bugs, where Rico lost an arm in battle.
Later, the Federation declared the Arachnid Bug territory a Quarantine Zone. However, some colonists ignored the warning and established Port Joe Smith on Planet Dantanna. This provoked the Bugs, who retaliated with a deadly meteorite strike on Earth.
Three high school friends, Johnny Rico, Carmen, and Karl, faced divergent futures. Carmen pushed Johnny to enlist in federal service instead of attending Harvard, and he joined the Mobile Infantry. Diz, secretly in love with Rico, followed him. Carmen entered Starfleet to become a pilot, while Karl joined Military Intelligence.
Rico initially excelled, becoming a squad leader. But a live fire training accident cost a recruit's life, and Rico was demoted and punished.
Just as he prepared to quit, a Bug meteorite struck Buenos Aires, killing his family. Fueled by grief and vengeance, Rico committed to the fight, beginning with the assault on Klandathu. The Federation's forces suffered heavy casualties, and Rico himself was seriously injured.
The Hardcore Squad rescued Rico. Led by his former schoolteacher, Rico began his path toward redemption and leadership. After successive missions and following the death of his commander at Planet P, Rico rose as the new commander. Despite losing Diz in combat, he continued the mission.
Eventually, thanks to Karl's psychic guidance, the team located the Brain Bug, a telepathic leader orchestrating the Arachnid forces. During this mission, Rico also encountered his ex girlfriend Carmen and her current partner.
George quietly observed all this unfold, taking mental notes. He wasn't here to change anything, only to understand. What impressed him most was the absolute mobilization of an entire society for war, a model Earth back home might one day need.
The concept of federal service, the advanced coordination, and the brutal realism of battlefield command gave him a lot to think about.
But for now, he simply continued watching, absorbing every lesson this world had to offer.
Ultimately, Rico pulled out a nuclear bomb to deter the Bugs. Humans, for the first time, captured a Brain Bug alive on Planet P. His high school friend Karl then appeared, taking over the Brain Bug for research. By this time, he was a senior Officer in the Psychic Strategy Unit.
The Federation army launched a full scale attack on the Bugs, intending to end the battle in one fell swoop. However, they fell into a protracted war, resorting to trench warfare, building bunkers, and setting up electric fences to fight the Bugs.
On Planet Zulu Alpha, Mobile Infantry Squad Bravo 6 was surrounded during a mission. The remnants of the squad escaped to the Delta Hotel Outpost, hoping for reinforcements.
There, the soldiers encountered not only swarms of Bug soldiers but also a new, horrifying variant capable of parasitizing humans. This intelligent Bug entered the body via the mouth, gained neural control, and reproduced within, infecting others similarly. It represented the Bugs' most terrifying evolution yet.
One parasitized a Federation General, aiming to penetrate the heart of the Federation and spread the infection. After a brutal struggle, a pregnant female soldier, Sahara, escaped in a landing craft, warning headquarters of this threat.
Dix, who remained behind to fight, was posthumously honored as a "Federal Hero."
Unbeknownst to most, the earlier captured Brain Bug had deliberately surrendered to study humanity's inner workings. It influenced minds through telepathy, including that of Star Marshal Annok.
Under its influence, the Star Marshal traveled to Planet Roku Mountain, visiting the Mobile Infantry Defense Camp where Rico, now a Colonel, was stationed. Accompanying him were Rico's former girlfriend and a promoted former subordinate.
In a covert act, the Star Marshal disabled the camp's power, collapsing the Bug repelling electric fence. The camp was overrun within minutes, resulting in heavy casualties. Rico was framed for overstepping his command and sentenced to execution.
The Star Marshal and Rico's ex girlfriend fled on a warship, only to be shot down by a Plasma Bug. They crash landed on OM-1, as the Star Marshal had planned all along.
Unable to communicate with headquarters, the survivors trekked toward a nearby crash site, where they encountered Bihan Koto, the Bug God, called the Brain of Brains. This sentient Bug could speak via human hosts and displayed immense intelligence.
Now completely under Bug control, the Star Marshal revered the Bugs as the superior species and willingly offered himself to be devoured by the Bug God.
At the last moment, Rico arrived dramatically, piloting a Raiders mech. With his squad, he launched a fierce assault, obliterating the swarm and saving his ex girlfriend.
It was revealed that Rico had not been executed; he had been secretly reassigned to the Raiders project, which enhanced combat effectiveness via neural synced mechs. Eventually, the Federation dropped a Q bomb, annihilating Planet OM-1.
Reflecting on this world, George noted its long term advancement in space tech, medical innovations, space station construction, and interstellar communication. All essential for his goals.
However, the world's computer technology was severely underdeveloped, making it difficult for George to extract useful systems or frameworks quickly.
But George was undeterred.
First, he traveled to Buenos Aires, just as depicted in the story. Using the relatively unsophisticated Star Network, he hacked into the household registry to create a flawless civilian identity for himself.
He assumed the identity of Li James, a lazy, indulgent heir of wealthy parents, ensuring he would never lack financial support.
Upon arriving at the inherited Villa, George found it a complete mess. A swift "Clean Sweep," a magical assisted utility, restored it to pristine condition.
Nodding in satisfaction, George sat at the local computer system. Though primitive, it would suffice. He began compiling the data he needed, already formulating his plan to take full advantage of this world's vulnerabilities.
As for the real Li James, George had already knocked him out and sent him directly to Chaos Space. There, robots would take care of him, so there was no need to worry at all. Of course, before doing that, George had briefly looked through his memories, ensuring his impersonation would be seamless.
He even modified Li James's verification information: blood type, biometrics, and access codes, so no one would suspect the swap.
This World had rigid social classes, and George needed high level access to technology and research facilities. Civilian status offered no access, and soldier life didn't interest him either.
After evaluating all possibilities, George decided that the technological route was his best option. His primary goal here was the tech library. He intended to implement the knowledge in Marvel Earth, the Naruto world, and most importantly, the Ancient Star, where he had to build from scratch.
Among the many technologies he brought with him, George identified prosthetic advancements as the most ideal starting point. Whether it was Bucky's mechanical arm from the Marvel Universe or the synthetic limbs from "I, Robot," they were leagues ahead of this world's standard.
More importantly, they were advanced enough to impress, yet subtle enough not to raise alarms.
Exactly a week after submitting the patent for advanced prosthetics, George, under Li James's identity, applied for "Citizen Service" and was swiftly recruited into the Logistics and Maintenance Department.
He was reassigned from Buenos Aires to a European military Base, given a role that was low profile but highly beneficial: maintaining mechanical battle suits. It was here he first encountered the M-1 A4 Power Armor.
This standard Mobile Infantry armor featured a complete servo system and the peak of human augmentation technology. It rendered the wearer nearly godlike compared to ordinary soldiers, removing fatigue, deflecting damage, and resisting armor piercing rounds.
Variants like the M-1 C8 Commander Power Armor further boosted strength, ranged combat effectiveness, and close quarters ability.
With an 8 hour battery life plus a 1 hour emergency extension, these suits were functional in the harshest conditions: from underwater to outer space.
Each suit came equipped with a communicator, mask, periscope, helmet lighting, an isolation suit, jet ejection device, environmental regulators, and a miniature computer integrated into the waist belt.
Despite all this sophistication, George was baffled to discover the armor relied on facial expression capture for control, a method he found wildly inefficient.
Still, it was an engineering marvel. Using his abilities, George quickly understood and extracted the entire technical blueprint.
Within a month, he had acquired all relevant battle suit technologies, including the advanced M-4 A1/2 EXOSUIT Super Power Armor. Staying in this base served no further purpose.
To push forward, George introduced a new control interface: human computer interaction through voice commands. Though child's play to him, it was a revolutionary leap for this world.
The innovation earned him favor with the top brass and a direct transfer to the Military Research Department, the Earth Federation's core innovation hub.
This department was vast and divided: miniaturized nuclear warheads, mecha development, aerial and naval advancements. But what intrigued George most was the Space Base Design Division.
Each division operated in isolation under strict tiered management. Gathering data piecemeal would take forever.
But George had no intention of playing by their rules. With illusions and subtle manipulations, he began controlling one officer after another.
He remembered the Six Degrees of Separation theory from his past life: that any person on Earth could be connected to another by no more than six individuals. Here, that idea translated into rapid infiltration.
In just three days, the entire highest level research infrastructure of the Earth Federation was under George's quiet control.
Next was information copying. Since there was too much data, it took another week just to copy it all.
From the Moon Surface facility to the Orbital Base, and then onward to the Sanctuary Federation Fleet Command, Ticonderoga Fleet installation, L-6 Satellite Hub, and the Nemesis Space Station, George left no data untouched.
Blueprints flowed into his archive: legendary starships like the "John A. Warden" class, the Franklin, the Alessia Fast Attack Ship, the Escort Transport Ship, and the Athena class Transport. Every vehicle, shuttle, or drone within them: George downloaded it all.
Whether the Earth Federation had already deployed it or merely sketched it on digital drafting boards, George harvested it. As he scanned file after file, a flicker of admiration crossed his mind. Not for their progress, but for how ripe it all was for repurposing.
A week later, George emerged from the final vault with a haul fit for a galactic emperor. Before departing, he flung Li James out like trash and secured several Bug Warriors for future experimentation.
These Bug Warriors were born killers: three pairs of legs granted them terrifying agility across any terrain. Their front limbs, shorter and chest mounted, formed bladed appendages sharp enough to slash reinforced plating.
Their iconic pincer jaws crushed with over 4,000 pounds of force: metal, bone, rock, none of it stood a chance.
With chitinous exoskeletons capable of enduring over 500°C and deflecting high density projectiles, they were practically immune to standard human weaponry. Killing one would take specialized tactics, if you were lucky.
George stared at the sedated creatures in containment. He wasn't interested in using them like wild beasts; he saw potential tools, engineered fear. "Let them see these again," he thought, "and the memory alone will break their lines."
He turned toward his next destination: OM-1.
More than just curiosity, this world carried a challenge. If the myths of the Bug God were true, it would be the perfect crucible to test his evolving plans.
The cold hum of the shuttle echoed around him as coordinates locked. One more leap into the future, he was building.
