Chapter 218: Chapter 218: The Power of the Wind Chime
"Oh? So, it's some kind of protective barrier. Interesting."
Ebony Maw cast a cold glance at Black Dwarf, who had just been sent flying. There was not a trace of sympathy in his eyes. Compassion was not an emotion he possessed—even toward his own allies.
The only person he truly respected and cared about was Thanos. Everyone else was insignificant.
With that thought, Ebony Maw lifted his hand, causing the stone bricks from the street to levitate. With a slight movement of his fingers, the bricks crumbled into fine dust, reforming into countless sharp, floating spikes.
A glint of cold determination flashed in Ebony Maw's eyes as he waved his hand, sending the swarm of stone spikes hurtling toward the shop's entrance.
Just as they were about to make contact, the small golden wind chime hanging above the door let out a crisp ringing sound. The next moment, an even stronger shockwave burst forth from it, shattering the incoming spikes instantly.
Feeling the terrifying force surging toward him, Ebony Maw's expression finally changed. The composed demeanor he had maintained up until now was gone. In a moment of panic, he quickly conjured a barrier to shield himself from the impact.
However, the redirected shockwave didn't just dissipate. At that moment, Black Dwarf had just gotten back on his feet—only to be blasted away once again by the residual energy.
Thud!
Black Dwarf coughed up a mouthful of darkened blood as he crashed to the ground, looking far worse than before.
"What the hell is that wind chime? Its defense is insane!"
Ebony Maw turned to glance at his fallen comrade, a lingering fear in his heart. If that shockwave had hit him directly, he wouldn't have died instantly, but he would've been gravely injured.
Despite his alien physiology, he wasn't invincible. Even an ordinary Earth firearm could harm him, let alone a force as devastating as that shockwave.
From a safe distance, some onlookers couldn't help but laugh. Even though they had no idea what Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf were after, it was clear that they were trying to break into the general store.
And yet, for some unknown reason, every attack they launched was not only repelled but sent back at them with even greater force.
This turn of events filled the watching humans with a sense of pride. Serves you right, aliens! This is Earth—welcome to your worst nightmare!
At that moment, the store's door finally creaked open.
A young man in his early twenties stepped out. He had delicate and refined features, his face carrying a faint, relaxed smile. Despite facing the two imposing aliens, he showed not a trace of fear.
Behind him, two young women followed.
One had wavy hair, a tall and striking figure, exuding an air of dominance. The other was shorter, with a youthful, doll-like face but a surprisingly curvaceous body.
The crowd erupted into whispers and murmurs upon seeing them.
Han Yu's facial features were distinctly East Asian—flawless, yet not conventionally handsome. However, he had an inexplicable charm that made people instinctively feel comfortable around him.
What truly set him apart, though, was his demeanor. With his hands casually tucked into his pockets, he appeared completely at ease, as if the overwhelming scene before him was nothing more than an everyday occurrence. His calm and collected aura made him stand out even more.
"You two decided to attack my door without even saying a word. What, does your planet not have the concept of knocking?"
Though Han Yu wore a faint smile, his voice carried a biting chill. The moment they had chosen to attack without warning, they had made their intentions clear. There was no need for diplomacy—only action.
As soon as he finished speaking, Wanda, standing beside him, stretched her hands, her expression turning cold. Her casual outfit instantly transformed into the attire of a Sorcerer Supreme—a form-fitting battle robe paired with a flowing crimson cloak of levitation.
Han Yu didn't turn around, but with his psychic senses, he noticed Wanda's transformation and was slightly surprised.
So, the Ancient One hasn't officially given her the title of Sorcerer Supreme yet… but that outfit, combined with the cloak, is exactly how I remember the Sorcerer Supreme should look.
Galacta looked at Ebony Maw with a face full of disdain. So ugly. Even if someone gifted him to me, I'd find him too unappetizing to eat.
"You're the owner of this shop?" Ebony Maw sneered. "You've taken something you shouldn't have. Return it to us immediately. And while you're at it, hand over the Infinity Stone in your possession. Do that, and I'll make sure your deaths aren't too miserable."
As soon as he finished speaking, Han Yu and his companions stared at him as if he were a complete idiot.
Meanwhile, behind him, Black Dwarf struggled to his feet. The moment he took a step forward, he suddenly felt his body being lifted into the air. To his shock, he saw his own torso in his line of sight. A young man stood atop his severed body, sword in hand. With a flick of the wrist, his body was sliced apart, turning into a pile of bloody chunks.
His vision blurred. Darkness consumed him before he could even comprehend what had happened.
The warm sunlight cascaded down from the sky, bathing Han Yu in a golden glow. If not for the fact that he was standing atop Black Dwarf's remains, with his sword, Hyōrinmaru, still in hand, this scene might have been quite picturesque.
"Would you like to repeat what you just said?"
Holding Hyōrinmaru in his left hand, Han Yu casually reached out with his right. A towel materialized in his grasp, and he leisurely wiped the blood off his blade, all while smiling at Ebony Maw.
A shiver ran down Ebony Maw's spine. He hadn't even seen what happened. In the blink of an eye, Han Yu had vanished from his sight, and when he turned his head, Black Dwarf had already been reduced to a pile of flesh.
What kind of combat skill is this?!
He had fought across countless battlefields in the universe, but he had never encountered swordsmanship as terrifying as this.
Cold sweat dripped down his face. He suddenly realized that he had grossly underestimated his opponent. Even with all the intelligence Thanos had provided, even with the equipment designed to counter high-energy weapons, he had never considered that the enemy's raw combat ability would be this overwhelming.
So overwhelming that he couldn't even see the attack. How the hell do you fight against that?
And what was worse—Han Yu didn't even seem to be taking this seriously. His movements were effortless, as natural as breathing.
"What's wrong? Weren't you talking big just now? So arrogant, weren't you? Come on, keep talking."
Han Yu tilted his head slightly, looking at Ebony Maw with an innocent, almost harmless smile.
Ebony Maw swallowed hard, forcing himself to stand his ground. "You shouldn't get too cocky. Do you have any idea who I serve? I am under Lord Thanos!"
"If you don't want your entire planet to be destroyed by Lord Thanos, you'd better hand over what belongs to him."
Han Yu nodded to himself, as if deep in thought. "Oh? Thanos? Sounds impressive."
Before Ebony Maw could react, Han Yu raised his sword once more. With a swift motion, the blade fell—severing Ebony Maw's arm.
"Then I suppose I have plenty of time to make you wish for death before he gets here."
Han Yu's voice was soft, almost like a whisper from the depths of hell, echoing in Ebony Maw's ears. At that moment, he realized—perhaps he really shouldn't have said that.
