Chapter 84: Chapter 84
About two hours later, Peter Parker woke up.
It did not raise the three philosophical questions: Who am I? Where am I? Who hit me?
When Peter Parker opened his eyes, he saw Luke's small face leaning in closer.
"Luke, what's wrong with me… what happened…?" Peter Parker sat up and looked around in confusion.
"Did you forget, man? You were bitten by a spider," Luke said.
"Spider! Where, where?"
Peter Parker was most afraid of spiders. He jumped out of bed in fear—and ended up jumping more than two meters high, hitting his head on the ceiling.
"Ahh—!" Peter Parker held his head and looked at the ceiling in shock.
He even forgot about the pain and looked up in disbelief. He actually jumped so high?!
It seemed to be successful.
Seeing this, Luke's mouth curled up.
He had been a little nervous over the past two hours. Little Parker had been unconscious on his bed, his whole body burning up like he had a high fever.
Even though Luke knew the spider toxin was altering Peter Parker's genes, he couldn't help but worry.
If the little spider didn't wake up in another half hour, he was ready to give him the antidote.
Fortunately, Peter Parker lived up to expectations.
A Spider-Man with short arms and legs was born!
Seven-year-old Spider-Man!
Luke thought it should be Spider-Boy.
Spider-Boy!
He showed appropriate surprise. "My God, there must be something wrong with that spider, man! Try jumping again. Come on, let's go outside."
Passing by the restaurant, Luke's adoptive mother, Karen, was preparing dinner. Seeing the two little ones running outside, she warned, "Don't run too far, honey. It's almost time for dinner."
"Got it!" Luke responded.
The two ran into the yard, and Peter Parker couldn't wait to jump again.
"Wow! Cool!" He was shocked and delighted to find that he was practically flying. With one jump, he could see the roof of Luke's house.
Luke quickly looked around.
Fortunately, it was getting dark, and the U.S. had a low population density. If this had happened in China, someone would have definitely called the cops.
After landing, Peter Parker's face flushed with excitement. "I can jump so high? I feel so light!"
The spider's strength was proportionally amplified in humans, and Peter mistakenly thought he had become lighter.
Luke thought to himself—good thing it was Peter Parker, a kid with guts. If it had been any other child, they'd probably be crying their eyes out by now.
"Man, it seems that spider gave you its abilities. I don't think you can just jump high—you can probably do more. Don't worry, I'll help you figure it out. I'll teach you how to control your powers. Believe me, I've got experience," Luke said.
The seven-year-old Spider-Man was officially born.
Next step—train him.
"I can learn Chinese Kung Fu from you, right?" Peter Parker asked eagerly.
He had wanted to learn the same martial arts Luke used to beat up the Violent Bird Trio.
"No problem!" Luke agreed readily. "But, man, don't tell anyone about this. I mean, don't tell anyone you have superpowers."
"Of course, man! This is my biggest boob!" Peter Parker was thrilled. "I've seen your boobs, and now you've seen mine. We're even!"
"You're right, we should protect our Mimi together," Luke nodded.
He thought to himself—I must never let Nick Fury find out about this.
"Oh no! It's getting late. I gotta go back! Aunt May will be mad if I'm late," Peter Parker said, looking at the sky.
"Remember, don't show your abilities in front of anyone," Luke reminded him again.
"Got it, buddy. See you at school tomorrow!"
Peter Parker ran home happily.
…
After sending Spider-Man off, Luke returned to his room and immediately checked his system for the skills he had secretly copied from Spider-Man.
Sure enough, all the abilities were unlocked!
"Great, choose Spider-Sense!" Luke's eyes lit up.
In an instant, a refreshing warmth spread through his body, making him shiver from head to toe.
It was like an extra connection had formed between him and the world.
This feeling was strange, yet… right. Some instinct told him—this was Spider-Sense!
Luke felt every hair on his body stand on end, more sensitive than ever before.
He could even sense the slightest air currents shifting around him…
"Ross, do you know what cool means? This is it! Meow ha ha! Spider-Man's Spider-Sense usually warns him before danger. In this state, time feels slower for him than for normal people. Doesn't he have super perception? Now, with this ability, I feel safe as hell! From now on, whether it's the Chitauri invasion or when Thanos snaps his fingers, I'll sense it beforehand. Of course, if the Family Planning Bureau director snaps his fingers, it won't matter—I'll either be in the 50% that remains or I'll have to find a way to stop Thanos. Yeah, I should start with the Cosmic Cube and the Aether so Thanos can't collect all the Infinity Stones. But that's ten years from now… kinda early to think about it. Anyway, based on the movies, Spider-Sense makes you feel nervous when it's triggered. Well, I don't feel anything off right now. The air's fresh, everything feels great, which means I'm safe…"
Luke suddenly stopped.
He realized—he had been rambling nonstop.
This wasn't like him.
A light bulb went off in his head.
Skill: Super Chatty.
His eyes widened.
"What the hell?! What's happening to me?! I didn't choose to be a chatterbox! I didn't pick this! Why the hell am I suddenly talking so much?! Ross, what's going on?! Tell me right now!"
"Ahem." Ross coughed lightly and said slowly, "Uh… this is probably a side effect of copying skills."
"Side effect?!"
Luke jumped up, furious. "Why didn't you tell me there were side effects?! You should've told me! Told me! Told me!"
"Didn't I mention it before?" Ross yawned.
"You did not! I'm sure you didn't! If you had, I'd remember it! I have no memory of this at all, which means you definitely didn't say it!"
"Okay, fine. I forgot to mention it," Ross admitted calmly.
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!" Luke was losing it. How unlucky was he, getting stuck with a skill that had side effects?!
Did this mean every skill he copied in the future would have side effects too?!
He was planning to copy Hulk's rage!
But now… after seeing this mess, he hesitated. What if he turned green?!
"Don't worry, the side effects will wear off over time," Ross said lazily, opening one eye.
"Really?! They'll go away?! How long? I don't wanna be a chatterbox forever! I hate chatterboxes the most, I'm telling you!" Luke ranted.
Ross spread his little octopus-like limbs and grinned. "I dunno. Could take a while."
"A while?! How long is 'a while'? An hour? A day? A month?! Ross, are you listening?! If I don't change back, I swear I'll cook you! Braised, steamed, sweet and sour, or cold, your choice! You hear me?! You hear me?! TALK TO ME!"
…
Meanwhile, at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
Nick Fury had just returned from the Arctic.
At this moment, he, Black Widow, and the others were having a heated debate—about a certain problem child who kept getting into trouble.
