Chapter 87: Chapter 87
Holding the milk cup in his two little hands, Luke took two big gulps and thought for a while.
"There's no need to apologize," he said. "As for letting you go..."
Skye looked at him pitifully with a pleading expression.
"Since you said that you have no close connection with the Rising Tide Organization, how about you join my organization? My organization has no official background, you can rest assured about that." Luke changed the subject.
Of course, he was not referring to S.H.I.E.L.D. but an organization he had formed. Currently, the organization was still in the stage of recruiting people and had not yet decided on a name.
"Invite me to join your organization?" Skye's expression became strange after hearing this.
A pair of big eyes flickered at Luke, which was beyond her expectations.
She looked at her phone and said, "Two minutes and thirty seconds ago, I was your prisoner."
Luke laughed. "I agree that this is a misunderstanding. So, to show our sincerity, let's forget about this unpleasantness for the time being, shall we?"
Skye still looked at him strangely.
"Why, do you think I'm young? Don't forget, I'm an Apostle." Luke's face turned serious as he spoke.
Unfortunately, he was naturally weak in this area. No matter how serious his face was, he still looked cute.
Skye couldn't help laughing in her heart. "Apostle. Well, this name is quite convincing."
Luke was deflated. Is a name more convincing than a face?
But it wasn't surprising. The Apostle had become known as someone as strong as Iron Man, with terrifying destructive power that could make even adults piss themselves.
Whether it was Tornado or War Lord, he had spent a lot of time on their designs and paint jobs to make them look as aggressive as possible.
Although, in the end, they still looked a bit too square. The problem was the original framework.
Fortunately, through his unremitting efforts, the name Apostle had become synonymous with "destructive" and "aggressive."
Luke figured appearance played a big role.
If he changed his mecha to something that suited a seven-year-old, flew a few laps, and showed up fully armed, the reaction would be very different.
"Look! SpongeBob!"
Luke imagined the consequences and shuddered. Disaster.
"Well, think about it. I'm serious." Luke was referring to inviting Skye to join his organization.
Please forget about SpongeBob.
"I want to ask you first, what exactly does your organization intend to do? You don't want to..." Skye asked hesitantly, wide-eyed. She didn't dare to finish the sentence.
Considering what the Apostle had done in the past, she couldn't help but suspect this might be a terrorist organization...
The most terrifying thing was that these guys were powerful. The kid in front of her might even be a core member!
If something like this got out, her life would be in danger. Prison wouldn't even be an option.
This wasn't like hacking, where you just hid in an attic and played on the internet. Skye had always regarded the Apostle's destructive style as a prime example of what not to do.
Luke had no idea that, in Skye's mind, he had already been labeled as a terrorist.
It wasn't really her fault.
From what she knew, the Apostle had already pulled off some major "events."
On the Monaco highway, he fought Iron Man, then tore apart a French fighter jet with his bare hands.
Two million people in New York mysteriously fell into a coma, with tens of thousands dead or injured. The mystery remained unsolved.
A massive cyber attack had taken down the East Coast, followed by a blackout in New York. Skye was certain that was Luke's doing.
And just five days ago, he and Iron Man had smashed up yet another expo site...
Any one of those incidents alone would be enough to label him a terrorist.
And now he was inviting her to join?
Skye's immediate thought: Hell no.
"Damn it! You got the wrong person! I wouldn't do this kind of thing!" she thought.
She was just a hacker. She had nothing to do with people who blew up buildings for fun.
She still couldn't understand why Luke was interested in her.
There had to be a catch.
Since he was capable of taking down the entire East Coast network, he obviously had top-tier hackers working for him already. He didn't need her.
And yet, despite all of that...
"After careful consideration," Skye hesitated for a moment and then said with a straight face, "I have decided that I am willing to join your organization."
"Oh?"
Luke was the one who looked surprised this time.
She agreed that quickly?
Was he really that charming?
Nah, definitely not.
He knew what he looked like. With just this face of a little kid, what kind of charm could he possibly have?
Unless Skye had some weird little-brother complex... which seemed unlikely.
"Really?" Luke smiled, seeing right through her. "You didn't even ask about the position or benefits?"
Skye froze for a moment.
Crap. She had agreed way too fast.
"I've actually always been fascinated by this kind of thing, haha... very fascinated... otherwise, I wouldn't have come to you..." Skye said awkwardly, forcing a laugh.
Luke could tell she was relieved.
Right now, she wasn't the legendary Quake—just a hacker. A high school dropout who became a hacker to search for her past.
Luke recalled how, in another timeline, Skye had intentionally gotten captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. just to investigate her background. Eventually, she ended up as Director Daisy Johnson.
There was no doubt that she was a smart and capable woman with incredible instincts.
If he let her go now, she would vanish in an instant. Of course, Ross could easily track her down again.
But Luke didn't want to let such a good potential asset slip away.
Not only was Daisy intelligent and a skilled hacker, but she was also Daisy Johnson—the future Quake, a leader among the Inhumans.
One day, she would be able to generate powerful shockwaves, a combat ability with massive potential.
She wasn't as broken as Black Bolt with his world-shattering voice, but she was still a first-class hero—someone who could qualify for the Avengers.
Speaking of the Avengers, that group was ridiculously selective.
You couldn't get in if you weren't strong enough.
You couldn't get in if you didn't have the right connections.
You couldn't get in if your morals were questionable.
And even if you met all those criteria, Tony Stark still had to personally approve you.
He had turned away countless people.
"I believe you," Luke said suddenly.
"Is that so..." Skye's smile was stiff. She was not good at lying.
"I believe you're lying to me."
