Boom!
Raven punched a Chitauri soldier, smashing it to pieces. Just as another Chitauri above her attempted to attack, Jean, not far away, pulled forcefully with her telekinesis, yanking the enemy from above. Raven then spun around and sent it flying with a powerful kick.
Suddenly, a creature resembling a giant whale flew overhead. Like fleas jumping from a host, Chitauri soldiers began dropping from it.
A Leviathan.
Although it was merely a Chitauri troop carrier, its enormous body alone could demolish buildings by simply flying past or turning mid-air, causing massive destruction.
At that moment, with a loud roar, the Hulk leapt from high above and landed on the Leviathan, slamming his fist down.
Boom!
The Leviathan visibly trembled, let out a painful screech, and began to sway unsteadily.
Raven dashed forward and shouted to Jean, "Give me a lift!"
As she finished speaking, she stomped the ground and launched herself into the air.
Jean raised her hand and gave Raven a powerful telekinetic push.
Like an arrow, Raven shot toward the Leviathan, landed on its back, and shouted, slamming her fist down.
Super strength!
Boom!
A crater formed where her fist landed, quickly widening.
A smile spread across Raven's face.
She had always operated in stealth and assassination missions. A fight this exhilarating—this was a first.
Together with Hulk, she brought the Leviathan crashing down from the sky.
Watching this, Jean's mouth dropped open.
She had never seen her teacher Raven like this before.
"Heh," Steve chuckled softly. "Nicely done."
Pressing his earpiece, he said, "Natasha, how's it going on your end? Need backup?"
"No need!"
Crouched behind cover, Natasha responded and looked over at Remy LeBeau. "Your turn."
"With pleasure," Remy said, adjusting the cap on his head and flashing Natasha a grin. His eyes glowed with an eerie pink light.
A quick swipe of his hand brought out several playing cards.
As pink energy surged across his body, Remy's speed skyrocketed. With a pink streak trailing behind him, he shot out from cover.
Whoosh!
Spotting a group of Chitauri soldiers searching for them, Remy whistled casually. As they turned, he flicked his wrist, sending the glowing cards flying. They hit their marks precisely—exploding into a brilliant display.
He flipped backward in midair, dodging several deadly energy beams. While still airborne, his other hand, gripping a metal staff charged with pink energy, drove it into a Chitauri soldier's skull.
"Hey!"
He grinned as a surge of volatile energy burst from his palm, flooding into the corpse. Even the soldier's weapons and armor lit up with glowing pink runes.
With a fierce swing, he hurled the corpse into a cluster of Chitauri.
Boom!
The body exploded, launching surrounding Chitauri flying.
Grabbing a Chitauri weapon off the ground, Remy reappeared beside Natasha, his hands still glowing. "For you."
Natasha took it, and the two of them rushed toward Logan and Hank McCoy's location.
Roar!
Spotting enemies ahead, Logan bellowed as Beast hurled him forward like a missile.
Logan landed hard, his adamantium claws gleaming coldly in the sunlight. Swinging his arms, he tore through several Chitauri soldiers like paper, then lunged at the next squad.
On a nearby street, Wanda raised a glowing red shield, protecting herself and Pietro. Pietro grinned, vanished, and—
One, two, three…
He dashed past the Chitauri, swiping their weapons before they could even react, then reappeared next to Wanda.
"Wanda?"
Pietro chuckled and pointed at the pile of weapons at their feet.
Wanda's eyes flashed crimson. With a flick of her fingers, the weapons rose and began rotating slowly around her shield like satellites.
With a focused thought, Wanda launched beams from the weapons.
In that moment, they looked like a moving fortress.
Seeing this, Charles couldn't help but laugh softly.
Emma asked curiously, "What is it?"
"Nothing," Charles murmured and resumed guiding civilians to safety with her.
Their calm voices and abilities helped the panicked crowd regain composure. Under their direction, evacuations proceeded in an orderly manner.
Though they couldn't join the battle directly, they were protecting more lives than anyone.
Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarriers were en route.
Each Helicarrier was a flying fortress. At full firepower, they could wipe out swarms of enemies in seconds.
The military was on its way too, but… given their speed, it was best not to expect much.
"Mike!"
Nick Fury stood watching the city engulfed in flames, eyes dark and stormy. Taking a deep breath, he asked quietly, "Have you found it?"
"Something's off. The Tesseract isn't here."
Standing beneath the portal, Mike activated his super vision and scanned the area, his brow furrowed tightly.
By all logic, the Tesseract should be right beneath the portal—after all, the light beam marked its location perfectly.
But there was no sign of the Tesseract below.
Without it, there was no way to close the space gate.
Mike's eyes gleamed as he flew around the area swiftly.
"Fury! The Space Stone isn't here!"
"What?!"
Fury's eyes narrowed. "Then that portal…? What the—?!"
Mike casually grabbed a flying Chitauri soldier and hurled it like a cannonball into another enemy. Looking toward the distant portal, he said, "If we can't find it, we only have one option left."
Destroy the Chitauri mothership.
Take it down, and their entire army would collapse.
"How do we do that?" Fury asked in confusion.
"Heh."
Mike chuckled but didn't answer.
To him, the real threat wasn't the Chitauri—it was whoever had stolen the Tesseract.
Fury had said the thief looked a bit like Clark…
A Kryptonian.
Mike immediately thought of those troublesome beings.
What worried him was—how many of them were there?
And more importantly, Clark had yet to show up during this entire battle.
There was only one explanation: he was being held up… by his "fellow countrymen."
