Ding!

Logan's phone chimed.

Just as he was getting up, he paused for a moment, then, rare for him, allowed a faint smile to appear.

Having work to do first thing in the morning—this was the best kind of news for someone like him, a working man.

Opening his phone, he checked the map, confirmed the destination and time, then stepped out of his car. Stretching lazily, he walked into a nearby public restroom, used the toilet, washed his face, and regained a bit of energy before getting back in the car and driving toward his destination.

At the same time, in the hotel where Clark and Gwen were staying…

The two of them were once again going over the points they needed to remember when meeting Logan.

"For now, we can't let him know we already know each other, we can't mention anything about another world, and we can't actively ask him about himself."

Gwen repeated the rules and added, "That's easy. I won't mess it up."

Clark nodded. "Good. Make sure you remember."

"Yes, sir!"

Gwen playfully gave a salute.

Seeing that there was still more than half an hour before the appointed time, Clark took Gwen downstairs. They had breakfast at a nearby restaurant and ordered an extra portion to take away.

The timing was perfect.

As they stepped out of the restaurant and reached the hotel entrance, Clark's newly purchased phone rang.

"Sir, I'm already outside your hotel—a black stretch Chrysler."

The voice on the other end was aged and lifeless, like that of an old wolf at the end of its years, simply waiting for death.

Just hearing that voice made Clark feel a pang of sadness.

Turning his head toward the street, he replied, "I see you."

Hanging up, Clark's gaze landed on the weary figure not far away.

Logan, his hair now streaked with white and his face etched with wrinkles, stood beside the car in a black suit and tie.

Gone was the untamed defiance and wildness of the past—what Clark saw now was resignation and compromise, a side of Logan he had never seen before.

This was Logan—the Old Wolf.

Perhaps sensing Clark's gaze, Logan looked over. While he was still wondering about it, Clark took Gwen by the hand and walked toward him, giving a small wave.

"Hello, sir. Did you request a car?"

Logan gave Clark a faint smile.

But Clark's heart sank.

That polite, ingratiating smile toward a stranger… Clark had never seen it on Logan's face before.

"Hello, I'm Clark Kent. I should have left my name for you."

The two shook hands.

"James Howlett. Your driver."

Logan introduced himself, then opened the car door for them. Noticing Gwen's curious gaze, he offered her a smile.

Gwen pressed her lips together, then suddenly broke into a bright grin. "Hello, Uncle."

Logan froze for a moment, then nodded in response.

When he got into the driver's seat and turned to ask about their destination, Gwen leaned forward with a sweet smile. "Uncle, have you had breakfast yet?"

Logan instinctively shook his head, then said, "It's fine, skipping breakfast doesn't affect my work. You—"

"Here, this is for you."

Gwen held out the breakfast they had brought.

"I don't—"

Logan was about to refuse when he saw her eyes begin to glisten, looking like she might cry if he rejected her.

His lips moved soundlessly for a moment before he finally took it. "Thank you."

At that moment, Clark smiled. "Then eat first before we set off."

Father and daughter exchanged a quick glance, both winking.

Logan agreed, and as he felt the warmth of the food in his hands, a faint heat spread in his numb heart.

He finished quickly, then asked, "Where would you like to go?"

Gwen beamed. "Uncle, my dad and I just got here for a trip. We don't know where's fun yet—how about you take us somewhere good? Anywhere is fine!"

Logan thought for a moment. "How about the Desert Botanical Garden?"

"Perfect!" Gwen said happily. "I love plants!"

Logan drove them toward the garden.

Phoenix's Desert Botanical Garden is the largest of its kind in the world.

When they arrived, Logan opened the car door for them.

Clark noticed the slight stiffness in one of Logan's legs as he walked and sighed quietly.

"Mr. Kent, we're here," Logan said.

Clark and Gwen got out. Sticking to their plan, Gwen smiled at Logan and said, "Uncle, you drive so well. I didn't feel carsick at all!"

Logan smiled and nodded.

Turning to her father, Gwen asked, "Dad, how about we take Uncle's car back too?"

Clark glanced at Logan.

"If I get another job, I'll have to go," Logan explained. "But if you call me and I'm free, I can pick you up."

"You won't be getting any other jobs," Clark said calmly.

Logan blinked, not understanding what he meant.

Clark pulled out a thick stack of cash—easily around ten thousand—and smiled. "For the next week, you'll be our guide here."

The offer tempted Logan greatly, but he still said, "That's a lot of money."

This father and daughter seemed genuinely kind—if it were someone else, he might have taken it without hesitation.

"Oh, come on!"

Gwen snatched the cash from Clark's hand and shoved it into Logan's. "Uncle, take it—we have plenty!"

Logan froze, then chuckled.

What a daughter.

He gave Clark his number. "I'll be here waiting for you."

As the two walked away, Logan clenched his fist in satisfaction.

Finally, he had met good people.

If things went well, once this job was done and he saved up a bit more, he could buy a boat.

And in a few days, he could get something for those two people back home, to make life a little better for them.

Thinking about it, Logan grinned like a fool. Even the world around him seemed a little brighter.

Inside the garden, Clark and Gwen caught sight of Logan's smile through Clark's super-vision. They gave each other a discreet high-five.

"Step one complete—you did well," Clark said.

"Of course! Acting is my specialty," Gwen replied proudly, then asked curiously, "So what's next?"

"Well, since we're here, we might as well enjoy it."

Clark took Gwen's hand, and they headed deeper into the garden.

Two hours later, they emerged.

Spotting them right away, Logan noticed Gwen's slight disappointment. "What's wrong? Not fun?" he asked curiously.

Gwen sighed. "Not as fun as I thought it'd be."

Logan scratched his cheek, a little embarrassed—after all, he'd been the one to suggest the place.

Once they were back in the car, Logan said, "Wait here a moment."

He dashed across the street to a cold drink shop, bought an ice cream, and returned carefully holding it in both hands.

He handed it to Gwen with a smile.

"Thanks, Uncle!" Gwen said sweetly, giving Clark the first bite before happily eating the rest herself. "Uncle, let's go to the next stop!"

"Alright!" Logan replied.
