Marvel: I can summon heroes from League of Legends

Chapter 156: Chapter 152. Nick Fury: “A Bunch of Traitors”

"I'll send someone to pick you up, Steve. Stay alert and keep an eye on your surroundings." Nick Fury ended the call and pocketed his phone. Leaning back in his chair, he rubbed the bridge of his nose, trying to alleviate his fatigue. He hadn't slept in nearly 24 hours, and for a man his age, it was becoming increasingly difficult.

He had just spoken with Steve Rogers, the World War II soldier they had recently thawed out of the ice. This man, known as Captain America, was among the most knowledgeable when it came to combating Hydra. After Peggy Carter, who was now an elderly woman, he was the one with the most significant experience against the organization. However, that was the Hydra of World War II, not to be confused with the current one that had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D.

For Fury, Rogers was a trustworthy ally. He had spent nearly 70 years frozen, eliminating any possibility of his involvement with Hydra. However, during their conversation, Steve initially thought Fury was joking. For him, Hydra ended with the Red Skull's demise, and the remnants of the organization, as he believed, were eradicated by Peggy Carter and Howard Stark.

To Steve's question about how Hydra could infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury didn't have a definitive answer. The memories of the captured Hydra agents didn't offer any key clues, and he had no idea how long the infiltration had been going on.

However, he suspected it began immediately after World War II. He had read reports on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founding, which mentioned that Howard Stark and Peggy Carter recruited several German scientists. Perhaps Hydra agents were among them.

The situation bothered him. If he were in Peggy and Howard's shoes, he would never have brought those who were recently enemies onto the team, and if he did, it would be under strict surveillance.

After ending the call with Captain America, he dispatched men to the agreed-upon location to escort him. As for Tony Stark, he decided not to involve him just yet. Iron Man's considerable fame would attract unwanted attention to their operation as soon as he left New York.

After resting briefly, Fury picked up his phone again and sent several messages to Noah. He had already communicated with him while in Russia, and Noah had asked him to get in touch upon his return. Now, back in New York, he decided to send Noah the coordinates of his base. Secrecy wasn't as crucial at this stage.

Knock, knock!

"Come in."

He was in his office at the base when he heard the knock. The only ones who would disturb him now were his closest aides—Coulson and the others.

The door opened, and Coulson entered.

"Coulson, what is it?" Fury folded his hands, resting his elbows on the table, and looked at him intently.

"Director, I noticed that everyone except Talos has disappeared. I searched the entire base but couldn't find them. Has something happened?" Coulson shared his observations.

"Don't worry, Coulson. Everything's fine, they're on a mission. Relax, there's no need to be so tense." Fury understood that his subordinate was on edge due to recent events.

"I sent them on a mission. We captured several Hydra agents, and their prolonged absence could arouse suspicion."

Coulson understood what the director was getting at, but he frowned and asked, "Director, are you saying you sent those agents to impersonate Hydra agents to infiltrate their ranks? But that's incredibly risky."

"Don't worry. These agents have undergone special training; they can perfectly imitate other people. I gave them all the information we extracted during the interrogations, so there won't be any problems," Fury replied confidently. These agents were Skrulls, with their natural ability to shapeshift and mimic. Moreover, each of them had used the "Memory Extractor" to acquire the memories of the Hydra agents, and now they could replace them flawlessly.

"Understood, Director." Seeing the director's confidence, Coulson stopped questioning him.

"Coulson, get ready. I've called in a couple of associates, and we'll have a small meeting," Fury said, getting up. He was going to wash his face to freshen up.

"Associates?" Coulson wondered, trying to figure out who Fury meant. Tony Stark? Noah? Captain America? The thought that his idol might come here instantly excited him. When Captain America first awoke, he wasn't in the best emotional state, and Coulson hadn't been able to talk to him properly. Now, perhaps, he would have the chance.

Adjusting his clothes, he decided to make himself presentable.

Meanwhile, on the rooftop of an abandoned building in a deserted neighborhood, stood a man in a hooded sweatshirt that concealed his face. His muscular physique suggested someone who trained regularly.

Steve Rogers stood at the edge of the roof, gazing thoughtfully at the horizon. Incredibly, after 70 years of being frozen, he had to fight Hydra again. This was something he had never expected.

Behind him, a Quinjet suddenly decloaked. Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, leaned out of the cockpit and waved to him.

Meanwhile, Noah returned home after his shopping trip. Placing numerous bags of various sizes on the table, he glanced at his phone, where a message from Nick Fury containing the address of his base had already arrived.

"Well, alright, I'll go take a look. Oh, not a moment's peace," he muttered helplessly.

He left the house, checked the address Fury sent, and opened a portal nearby. Surrounded by magical energy, he stepped into it and vanished.

"Sir, unknown energy fluctuations detected nearby."

"Pinpoint the source of the signal," Fury commanded, then, lost in thought, quickly typed a message.

"Noah, are you there yet?"

"Yes, I'm close."
