Chapter 104: CHAPTER 104
Star-Lord swiftly knocked out the Grandmaster's subordinates, flinging them aside effortlessly.
He turned to Rocket Raccoon and Groot, who were still engaged in battle, and called out, "Let's go! Don't get caught up in the fight—our priority is rescuing Drax first!"
"Got it."
Rocket Raccoon understood. Even though they now had the advantage thanks to their parasitic fusion enhancements, they were still on Sakaar—a planet with highly advanced civilization and technology. If they delayed too long, the Grandmaster's forces would surely find a way to counter them and take them down one by one.
Even though these parasitic fusion creatures were resistant to high-frequency sound waves, Sakaar's scientists would inevitably figure out a way to neutralize them. But Rocket Raccoon and his team didn't have time to worry about that. Right now, their only goal was to rescue Drax the Destroyer.
As long as the parasites could buy them some time, that was enough.
At this moment, Rocket Raccoon—enhanced through super-genetic technology—possessed extraordinary intelligence, superhuman physical strength, enhanced agility, razor-sharp claws, and more.
Now, with the added power of the parasitic fusion, the Guardians of the Galaxy had reached terrifying new levels of combat ability.
The moment Star-Lord gave the order, Rocket Raccoon shot forward at lightning speed. He didn't even bother using the laser weapon in his hand.
In a blur of black shadows, he dashed through the passage ahead, striking down the Grandmaster's subordinates before they could react.
Seeing Rocket Raccoon's overwhelming strength, Star-Lord was momentarily stunned. Then, shaking his head helplessly, he muttered, "That little guy is terrifying."
Groot, while not as fast as Rocket, had his own strengths. Unlike Rocket Raccoon, Groot's power wasn't in speed—it was in raw strength.
With a deep, rumbling voice, Groot called out, "I am Groot."
Then, pressing his hands firmly against the metallic floor, he unleashed his power.
The underground base, constructed from high-strength alloys, crumbled as if it were mere soil beneath Groot's touch. His body partially transformed into tree-like structures, sending out powerful vines and roots that tore through the metal passageways.
Thick, green tendrils surged through the underground base, breaking apart reinforced corridors and even opening a massive hole in the floor—providing a direct path to the level below.
Now, Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon could drop down without having to navigate through the enemy-infested hallways.
Groot extended his vines further along the passage walls, using them as extra eyes and ears. If any of the Grandmaster's reinforcements approached, he would sense them immediately and alert Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon.
The farther Groot spread his vines, the more information he gathered—essentially turning the entire underground base into a scouting system for the Guardians.
Having intelligence in an unfamiliar environment was crucial, and thanks to the parasitic fusion, Groot's plant-based abilities had been significantly amplified.
"I am Groot!"
Rocket Raccoon heard Groot's call and turned back to see a massive hole opening beneath Groot's feet—leading directly to the fifth underground level.
The Guardians had entered the base from ground level, and since there were no above-ground structures in this fortress, the room they were searching for had to be on the fifth underground floor.
Rocket Raccoon grinned and rushed back toward Groot. "Nice work, Groot!"
"I am Groot."
Star-Lord glanced at Groot and nodded. "Alright, Groot, let's move together—fast!"
Groot gave a firm nod.
Meanwhile, alarms blared throughout Sakaar. The Guardians' infiltration had triggered the underground base's security system.
The loud sirens echoed across the buildings near the arena.
Rhodes and Hela, who had been watching the parasite gladiator fights, looked around curiously.
The Grandmaster's expression darkened.
Forcing a polite smile, he quickly turned to Rhodes and Hela. "My apologies, Lord Rhodes, Lady Hela. It seems we have a few uninvited guests. But please, rest assured—this place is perfectly secure. I will handle the situation immediately and assign extra protection for your safety. Please remain here and enjoy the show."
He paused before adding with a forced chuckle, "I will personally take care of this matter. I wouldn't want anything to disrupt your entertainment."
Rhodes was not worried.
"Go."
"OK."
The Grandmaster hurriedly left the room.
At that moment, several of the master's subordinates rushed in to report the situation.
The master frowned and reprimanded them.
"What the **** is going on here?"
"Why is this place such a mess?"
"Don't you realize we have an esteemed guest arriving today? And now this happens? Are you deliberately trying to embarrass me?"
The master's subordinates were scolded **** and trembled as they explained.
"Master Grandmaster, we're very sorry. Someone has infiltrated the underground base and launched an attack on our forces. We don't yet know the full details."
"What?"
The master's eyes widened in surprise.
"How is that possible? Our outer space defense system didn't detect anything? How did they get in?"
"This… we don't know either."
"A bunch of useless fools. What's the point of keeping you around?"
"How many intruders are there?"
"We're not completely sure, but based on reports from the frontline combatants, the enemy's numbers are small—just a handful of people."
Hearing that the opposition consisted of only a few individuals, the Grandmaster quickly lost interest.
"Just a few people, and they've already caused such a commotion?"
"You're all becoming more and more incompetent."
"Take care of them immediately. I don't want anything ruining the experience for our distinguished guest."
"Yes, Master Grandmaster! We'll handle it right away!"
The reprimanded subordinates sprang into action, dispatching reinforcements to block the attack from the Guardians of the Galaxy and their allies.
Hundreds of the Grandmaster's men rushed to reinforce the breached passage. However, upon arrival, they were met with an unexpected sight.
A thick layer of green vines covered both sides of the passage and its far end. The vines clung to the tunnel walls like stubborn parasites.
The master's subordinates hesitated, confused.
On a wasteland planet like Sakaar, where natural resources were scarce and vegetation was nearly nonexistent, how could plants suddenly appear here?
More importantly, the vines completely blocked their path.
One of the master's men barked an order.
"Burn them! These plants must be the work of the intruders."
"Yes, sir!"
One subordinate adjusted his weapon, activating its flamethrower attachment.
He aimed and fired, releasing flames that burned at several thousand degrees. The dark blue and greenish fire generated an intense heat, forcing the troops to activate the energy barriers on their battle suits to avoid being scorched.
However, to their shock, the vines did not burn away instantly as expected.
Instead of disintegrating, the vines withstood the intense heat. While some parts shriveled and deformed under the flames, they quickly intertwined and repaired themselves.
Even when sections were destroyed, new vines sprouted to replace them.
The master's forces made little progress.
The extreme heat turned the surrounding high-strength alloy walls red-hot, filling the passage with scalding steam. If they continued their assault, they risked melting the very walls before the vines were even affected.
Worse, if they stayed too long, they'd be roasted alive.
"Stop! Stop!"
At the command, the flamethrower operator ceased fire.
"What the hell is this thing made of? Even fire doesn't work!"
"I don't know. But at this rate, even if we keep burning them until morning, we might not get through. Some of us should stay and continue attacking, while the rest take alternative routes to locate the enemy's exact position."
"We need to wipe them out."
"Otherwise, you can all expect Master Grandmaster to have your heads."
"Yes, sir!"
