MARVEL'S MONSTER HUNTER WORLD

Chapter 57: THE FLIGHT OF IRON AND ICE

Walking into the underground garage, Watson glanced at the protective glasses on the worktable and raised an eyebrow. "You called me here just to watch you work? I don't get it."

Tony turned, removing his goggles. "No, I called you here so you could witness a miracle."

"So what exactly are you doing?"

"Finishing up the final outer armor. There was a little flaw."

Watson eyed the row of luxury cars nearby, then casually hopped into the blue Shelby Cobra with the number 98 on it. "I like this one." He leaned back into the soft seat.

"Don't think about it—it's my car. And yeah, I like it too," Tony responded without looking back.

After half an hour, Tony set down his tools and called out, "Jarvis, bring our detective a big surprise."

"Right away, sir."

Mechanical arms whirred overhead, assembling the final pieces of armor. Soon, a fully silver suit stood completed in front of Watson.

"So?" Watson shrugged. "I see a silver-plated suit. Now what? You take off and fall apart in midair again?"

"That was just an accident! Not this time. Now, you're not the only one who can fly." Tony grinned. "But first, let's get some dinner. I'm starving."

The Night's Test Flight

As night fell, Tony began suiting up in the MK2. Watson watched from the car, amused. "Gotta admit, it's kind of cool."

"Jarvis, ready?"

"At your service, sir."

"Boot up the head display, import all optimization programs."

"Done, sir."

Tony smirked at Watson. "Today's a big day. Load all data into the database… except for the guy in the car. Just ignore him."

Watson rolled his eyes. "Right, I'll just pretend I didn't hear that."

"Jarvis, run a virtual simulation."

"Test complete, all systems normal."

"Check flight conditions."

Watson leaned forward. "I think you should run a few more tests before you actually take off. I can wait, you know."

"Sir, Mr. Watson has a point. There are still a few calculations to be completed," Jarvis added.

"Jarvis, whose side are you on?" Tony huffed. Then he turned to Watson. "Detective, let me teach you something—sometimes, before you learn to walk, you gotta learn to run first." He smirked. "By the way, I won't be able to hear you up there."

"Yeah, yeah. Go on then." Watson stepped outside as Tony prepped for launch.

"Jarvis, ready. 3...2...1... Fire!"

The roar of the thrusters filled the garage, and a silver blur shot past Watson, heading straight for the sky.

"Whoa!" Tony's voice crackled over the comms. "This is incredible! Come on, detective, catch up if you can!"

Watson grinned. "System, release Dahua."

A deafening roar filled the air as Dahua, his dragon, launched into the sky.

"Go get him," Watson instructed, gripping onto Dahua's back.

The dragon shot forward like an arrow, racing after Tony.

Tony, now getting the hang of flying, laughed. "Nice try! I bet that thing isn't as fast as me!" He tilted forward and sped off.

Watson shook his head. "Dahua, keep pace, but don't overdo it. Let him have his fun for now."

Tony twisted midair, spotting Watson gaining on him. "Hah! You still can't catch up!"

Watson smirked. "Yeah, yeah. You're the fastest man alive."

Suddenly, Tony pointed down. "Hey, check out that kid!"

Below, a little boy holding an ice cream cone was staring up in awe at the flying armored figure. His ice cream slipped off the cone and splatted onto his hand. A little girl beside him shrieked and, in her panic, flung her own ice cream into the boy's face.

Tony burst into laughter. "Watson, you scared the kid!"

"I did not. Stop slandering me."

Tony angled upwards. "Alright, time to test the real limits of this thing. Jarvis, what's the altitude record for a reconnaissance plane?"

"The SR-71 Blackbird holds the record at 85,000 feet, sir."

Tony grinned. "Let's break it. Full power!"

Watson watched him climb. "Oh great, here we go."

"Jarvis, altitude check?"

"Mr. Stark, ice formation is increasing rapidly. This may cause system malfunctions."

"One more push!"

Watson sighed. "Dahua, hold position. Let's see how this plays out."

The silver armor shot higher and higher. But then—

Bang!

A burst of sparks erupted from Tony's thrusters. The frost spread rapidly over his suit.

"Uh-oh."

"Sir, the ice is compromising the armor's functionality."

Tony's laughter vanished. "Jarvis? JARVIS?! SYSTEM FAILURE?!"

His thrusters cut out. The light on his mask flickered and died.

And then—he dropped.

"AHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Though the comms were down, Watson could still hear Tony's panicked scream.

"Dahua, get under him. Catch him slowly—he's heavy."

The dragon swooped into a dive, racing toward the plummeting Iron Man.

Chunks of ice trailed behind him. Watson sighed. "Yeah, you sure showed me how fast you can fly."

"DETECTIVE!!!" Tony's voice rang out as he hurtled toward the ground.

Watson cracked his knuckles. "Here we go."
