Chapter 184: A Lone Figure Beneath the Ashen Gales
After arriving at the Golden Spring Fragrance Palace, several maids first ceremonially welcomed and cleansed Hexia, had her take off her shoes, and washed her feet in the Clear Spring Pool. Then a maid carefully dried them so she could step directly onto the golden carved floor akin to a piece of art.
The entire floor of the vestibule in the grand hall was carved with magnificent scenes — scenes of ancient fleets crossing the Milky Way and arriving on this planet, grand engineering feats of the local inhabitants transforming the planet, and celebrations led by several historical songstresses of this Star Domain.
Walking barefoot on this golden floor, Tilan felt a faint warmth, not as cool as the early autumn air, suggesting that there must be geothermal installations below keeping it consistently warm.
Traversing the vestibule, Yahemos, holding Tilan's hand, seated her and himself in the spacious main hall. Here in the center was a rectangular pool, clear water flowing down from the beast's mouth on the frontal wall into the pool below, with excess water cascading down the hillside, nurturing the gardens and lawns along its path.
On either side of the hall were white marble columns, through which occasional breezes passed, bringing a slight chill and removing the hall's moisture, keeping it dry.
"This time, Hexia deliberately came to visit me. Surely there are quite a few things to discuss, right?" After a brief exchange, Yahemos brought up the matter at hand.
"Yes," Tilan nodded.
"If you want to reform certain phenomena, I very much agree. Indeed, things should be tidied up a bit," Yahemos supported her face with a finger.
"But, from what Masha told me, it seems what you intend to do goes beyond that."
"Yes," Tilan nodded again.
"..."
For such brief answers, Yahemos was not very satisfied. She wanted the young lady to explain properly why she would make such efforts: after all, it's thankless and highly likely to tarnish one's reputation, and now she even wants to drag others along. To her, this seemed like an obvious choice that didn't need further explanation.
After a silent pause, Yahemos stopped tapping her fingers, stopped thinking about it, and spoke directly.
"Why should I agree with you? Can you give me a reason?"
"Yahemos doesn't have to agree either, I'm not forcing anyone," Tilan replied, seemingly sincere, yet perfectly throwing the question back.
Just as Yahemos had pondered days ago, not agreeing at this point would only lead to greater risks.
What a tricky situation, this child is not as simple and easy to deal with as she seems on the surface.
"If I agree with you, I'll be taking a huge risk. Can you compensate for these potential losses? And don't say you'll definitely succeed or use grandiose statements."
"Hmm, if it's personal financial compensation, I can pay, but surely that's not what Yahemos is after." Tilan thought and replied.
"I want to remake everything in the Federation. If Yahemos wants to leave her own mark in history, write her own chapter, this would be a great opportunity."
"History..." Yahemos murmured, not immediately refusing or agreeing.
Indeed, every songstress isn't lacking money, and it's beneath her to ask Hexia for any financial reward. However, since she is taking such a big risk to join, she doesn't want to contribute in vain. This would contradict her usual principle.
History, great achievements, these words are distant, even unattainable, for ordinary people, but for a songstress, they are reachable with a bit of effort, it indeed moved her, but not strongly.
"Not enough," Yahemos shook her head.
"These are just promises after victory."
"What I want is a reward that is worthwhile even in failure. You might say I'm worldly, but this is the local cultural tradition, we can't act without rewards, or it will bring calamities to both parties."
"Since that's the case..." Tilan thought for a moment.
"I'll give Yahemos a private gift then." She contemplated, then directly sliced through space with her finger, taking out a candlestick resembling a flower bud, with a golden seed inside, seeming like it was breathing.
Though the girl's actions were exceptionally natural and relaxed, to others in the palace, it was terrifying and creepy. To directly slice through space and retrieve something, if used in combat, it would be akin to directly grabbing an opponent's heart, the principles and difficulty were nearly identical.
Suppressing her inner astonishment, Yahemos looked at the flower bud candlestick in the girl's hand.
"Once this seed is activated, it can create a smaller Secondary Space, also commonly referred to as Subspace or space gap. Then using this candlestick, you can connect with this newly created space to store and retrieve items. Additionally, this candlestick has a stabilizing effect on space, meaning within a 500-meter radius, others find it difficult to use spatial manipulation abilities such as ripping and traversing."
This device was crafted by Tilan using her own Authority coupled with Grey Dust Crystal technology. Originally intended to be promoted as a new generation product, she found it highly consuming to produce just one piece. Tilan's current focus still needed to be on crafting the 'Rhythmic Crystal,' hence she had to shelve this plan.
"How much space is there within this candlestick?" Yahemos was curious about this because if it could only hold the contents of a house, its usefulness would be limited to her.
"About..." The girl looked around, then replied.
