Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 6: Everyone's Story_3

"Guy and I will take turns to stay awake; during the day, Marula is in charge of watching over and cooking, while at night, either Guy or I will be on duty. The first thing we need to do is clean up the valley. The bodies of the 'Red Poison Species' and the spills of 'Black Shit Fire' have quite a lot of contamination. Then, we'll inventory everyone's belongings and reorganize the rooms."

"Guy and I are quite familiar with dealing with bodies and contamination, so we'll handle it in shifts. Hexia and Ores, could you please help with the sweeping and cleaning?"

"Understood."

"Alright, let's leave it at that for now."

After lunch, Sura remembered something and hung her watch at the cave entrance.

"Everyone, refer to this time. Remember to come and eat at 11 AM and 6 PM every day."

In the afternoon, Tilan and Ores worked alongside Sura. Although Sura said help wasn't needed, her small stature made things difficult, so she often worked with Tilan to lift bodies, load them onto a wooden wheelbarrow, and carry them to a pit outside the valley. The pit was once used for extracting clay and is now abandoned.

"These guys, even burning them for oil is too foul," Sura complained to Tilan while pushing the cart, speaking with bitter resentment in her heart.

She then pushed the cart to the edge of the pit, letting it slide down.

After multiple trips back and forth, they finally cleared out the 'Red Poison Species' bodies from within the valley.

Once they finished, Sura sat in the shade of the mountain wall to cool down while Tilan handed her a cup of clear water.

"Phew, thanks." She drank it down in big gulps, feeling considerably better.

"Let's clean up the corpse oil and stains on the ground next, then we can rest today."

"Mm-hmm." Tilan nodded, feeling a slightly strange sensation arise within.

After a brief contemplation, she glanced at the watch nearby. It was only about 2 PM, meaning they could finish their work before 4 PM. This felt novel and different to a girl accustomed to the modern work rhythm and schedule.

Meanwhile, Ores was still standing nearby, curiously examining the odd-looking fruits on the table. One had a surface resembling kiwi with rough brown bristles but was somewhat similar to winter melon inside. Another was a root with an orangish-yellow exterior and a white interior when cut open.

"That's a Bronze Gourd, and the one next to it is Orange White Stem—both are very good. To get the seeds, I had to travel really far to trade at a settlement, and people there were reluctant to give them up. In the end, I exchanged them for a finely crafted crossbow."

"Unfortunately, Timber left us two years ago. Back then, he had a fever for several days, and even though Nanguo used herbs on him, he didn't get better, and he just... passed away." Sura spoke with a hint of regret.

"That's how this land is; many familiar faces leave quietly. Now, in this settlement, only Moose Boss and I are left as the old-timers, while Guy and Marula joined just in the last two years."

That afternoon, the three of them thoroughly cleaned the valley. As the evening approached, Sura helped Marula with making dinner and then took a small nap herself.

At night, the five people gathered around the bonfire, eating plain but warm wheat porridge. Sura kept rambling about many things, as if trying to recount all the people and events that had happened in this settlement to the newcomers.

"Initially, it was just Moose Boss living here by himself. He saved someone who joined him, forming the earliest settlement. I was the fourth one here. At that time, the settlement lacked tools, so Moose Boss went to 'Shilin Mountain Castle.' Coincidentally, I passed by there and was invited over to help. I found this place appealing and decided to stay."

"Though it's somewhat simple and impoverished, it's peaceful and quiet here. I really enjoy sitting atop the valley and watching the scenery in the evenings." Sura's voice trailed off into calmness, her eyes transfixed on the fire.

The firewood crackled and burned, emitting waves of heat. The five sat by the fire, appearing as a tiny speck of light amidst the pitch-black land, remarkably small, as if it could be scattered with a single breath.

Despite this, each tiny person has their own story.
