Chapter 7: The Merchant Riding a Bison
The sunshine turned over the mountain body, shining into the clearing within the mountain hollow. A row of bedsheets and burlap were hung on long poles, occasionally stirred by the wind, billowing and fluttering partially.
"Come, just like that."
Tilan and Ores, each holding a corner of the bedsheet, pulled it up and hung it on the clothes pole.
After hanging it up, Tilan shook it slightly, causing the water droplets to fall down.
Just like that, when the two finished hanging all the washed bedsheets and clothes, it was already noon.
After lunch, the two sat on the steps against the mountain wall, leaning on the slightly cool stones, gazing afar at the field outside that intertwined with withering yellow and emerald green. A gentle breeze occasionally blew through, and the sky was unusually clear and quiet.
Reclining on the stones, the young girl gazed up at the expanse of sky above, allowing her rarely tumultuous mind to slowly calm down.
Without the complex, tumultuous information, the struggles and disputes of various powers, and the varied pragmatism of human minds, everything seemed excessively empty, giving her a somewhat surreal feeling.
Raising her fingers, the ring engraved with Six-sided Wings still sat on her finger, and Tilan could feel the faint vibrations emanating from it, indicating that the ring was still functioning properly.
Theoretically, she could use the ring to locate the position of the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain from the Aijieka Sea. However, she was only Sequence 6 now. Even using authority in full status posed significant risks, making it fortunate she managed to survive with Ores this time.
To stably use authority for long-distance, cross-Star River space traversal, Sequence Level 8 was probably needed. And progressing to Sequence Level 8...the young girl shook her head; it might take several years.
In a few months, once she's recovered, she could start attempting to advance to Sequence Level 7. She was close to reaching this stage, with sufficient knowledge and theory.
During this time, she should focus on recuperating first. It's a good chance for her to rest well. Since leaving the university, she's been tirelessly running through different Star Domains without stopping for a long time.
"Ding ding dong dong~"
When Tilan and Ores leaned back on the mountain wall for a nap, the crisp sound of bells woke her up.
This is...the bell on the lookout tower. Tilan remembered something and quickly stood up; Ores was still sound asleep beside her.
No time to wake Ores, Tilan decided to check the situation first. The distance to see the high platform outside the mountain hollow wasn't far.
She moved lightly and swiftly. In merely 20 seconds, she reached a vantage point overlooking the settlement outside.
The sparse wild grass still stretched endlessly. But today, there were several small dots moving slowly in the wilderness. Concentrating her sight intently, she realized they were five wild buffalos, laden with baggage, moving slowly on the land. There was also a person riding the leading buffalo.
Tilan agilely leaped from the high Ground, landing on the lookout platform. By this time, Marula had already stopped ringing the bell.
"I was being overly nervous." After listening to Tilan's description, he visibly relaxed his expression.
"No need to worry about them?" The young girl was slightly curious.
"Probably not. You mentioned there was just one person, with five wild buffalos laden with luggage, so it should be a passing merchant band."
"Can you notify Sura? She probably isn't sleeping now."
"No problem."
Returning to the cavern, Tilan woke the napping Sura. She rubbed her eyes and sat up.
"Eh? Merchant band? That's great." She was visibly a bit joyful.
"I'll go prep a bit, figuring out if there's anything worthwhile to trade."
After half an hour or so, the miniature merchant band leisurely arrived outside the mountain hollow. The bells on the wild buffalo's necks rang crisply, almost like doorbells.
The afternoon sunshine was very warm, the wilderness filled with the scent of withered grass and soil. Tilan, Sura, and Guy walked out together.
Walking closer, Tilan noticed the wild buffalo in front were quite tall, moving on four legs, their height no less than hers. Altogether, they probably weighed over a thousand pounds.
The brown hide was rough and hard, intermixed with chunks of dried mud. The black buffalo noses occasionally heaved, exhaling warm breaths. They sporadically nibbled at the grass on the ground but mostly stood in place, slowly chewing. Their tails occasionally swished, fending off mosquitoes.
While Tilan watched the big wild buffalo curiously, Sura and Guy conversed with the merchant band members.
"Any good medicine?" This was their biggest concern.
"Medicine is scarce everywhere. Every settlement wants to hoard it; sometimes when urgently needed, it's just not there." He said while walking beside a buffalo, unfastening the coiled strap, revealing a leather pouch, taking out a tin box, and opening the lid. Inside were dry herbal fragments.
"This is herbal medicine from Northern Wolf Settlement. Their shaman witch doctors are quite skilled, probably the best goods around here. Beyond that, it's unknown where antibiotic bottles come from, which are really precious. You'll probably need to try your luck at Shilin Mountain Castle."
"Let me see." Guy approached, familiarly pinching a bit of herbal powder with his fingers, sniffing carefully, rubbing them in his hand, then tasting them to investigate meticulously.
"Pah." He spat out the herbal fragments from his mouth and nodded.
"The goods are indeed good, not damp either."
"Of course, I specifically preserve them in tin boxes; otherwise, they couldn't be carried this far."
"Buy a box." Sura also touched them with her hand and agreed with a nod.
"Alright, as usual, you folks have to trade half a barrel of flour." The man, wearing a felt hat, raised his finger.
