Mountain Sitting Immortal

Chapter 423: No Way Forward.

The size of the technique was very large because of its high rank, so it would take a few minutes to digest it. He could spare a few minutes so he didn't mind.

But what made things worse was that the Blood Pill Daoist also left her experimental notes and records as part of the Inheritance. This extended the amount of time he needed to use to digest the Inheritance by 100 times.

The experimental notes recorded the process and outcomes of experiments performed over a period of 100 years. So there were thousands upon thousands of experiments and notes. It would take him hours to assimilate everything.

While he was receiving the inheritance, he learned that the Blood Pill Daoist had made the attempt to copy the Inner Pill Art because she was at the peak of the fourth mortal coil and didn't have a way to reach the fifth mortal coil.

She was at the peak of the golden core realm, but she lacked a technique to help her advance. So she tried to copy a superior technique. The result was that she both failed and succeeded.

The Life Pill Art failed her because it was too late for her to use it, and even if she were willing to risk her life to start all over, the foundation cultivated with it couldn't grow.

So she would be stuck at the third mortal coil if she managed to survive the process of severing her cultivation from the fourth mortal coil down to the second mortal coil in order to start again.

What's worse is that there were many other techniques that could create foundations and advancement in power that was capable of growth. These were techniques meant to be used by desperate people.

There was such a technique, and it could help her advance to the nascent soul realm. Of course, if she had used that technique, she wouldn't be able to grow stronger once she reached the nascent soul realm and would be stuck in the early stages of it.

So her years of research and hard work turned out to be a waste. After all, if all she wanted was a failed technique, she didn't need to go so far just to create one from scratch. She could have spent all that time and resources to do something more worthwhile.

But in a way, all her hard work wasn't a waste because she found a way to convert cultivation and the power it provides into a pill that can be used externally as a weapon. She called this external cultivation.

Arthur didn't fully understand how the external cultivation worked, but he got a preliminary understanding of it when he read from her notes that she was able to use this external cultivation to advance to the nascent soul realm without being a nascent soul realm herself.

She was able to create a pill and used that pill as a weapon to elevate her power to the nascent soul realm. She did this by converting a nascent soul cultivator into the pill. That was the only way the pill could enhance her power in the nascent soul realm.

As he digested the notes, he learned a lot of things. The first thing he learned was that the raw material of the Life Pill Art was the corpses or living bodies of other beings.

The second thing that he learned was that the external cultivation wasn't as powerful as the internal cultivation. But the external cultivation and the internal cultivation can be used at the same time, which will grant some advantages.

The third thing he learned was that it wasn't that the Blood Pill Daoists couldn't find any technique that could help people reach the fifth mortal coil. She was able to find many techniques. The problem was that she couldn't use those techniques because they had conflicts with her previous cultivation technique.

Apparently, once someone reaches the third mortal coil, their path becomes set. The types of cultivation techniques they can use become extremely limited, and this limit becomes more and more stringent the farther along the cultivation ranks one reaches.

This limit won't matter until one day, his cultivation technique runs out of a way forward. When that happens, he too will face the problem that the Blood Pill Daoist encountered and might have to create a compatible cultivation technique from scratch.

It was stated that once one reaches the third mortal coil with a technique, they are stuck with it, and it becomes nearly impossible for them to change that technique without dying. The only alternative is to find another compatible cultivation technique within the limited group of compatible techniques.

Daoist Blood Pill didn't have that option. So even though she was very talented and very rich and highly connected, she had reached a dead end in her path. This chilled him to the bone.

He paused the assimilation of the inheritance to remind himself about something he should do.

"I must ask Elder Storm Hawk how far along the Divine Lightning Armament and the Everlasting Wood Art go."

Then he resumed receiving the inheritance.

But he stopped a few seconds later to say, "Not that I will have much of a choice. After all, the Blood Skull sect is already the best sect in the region."

"I am stuck with the Divine Lightning Armament and the Everlasting Wood Art for now. At least it reaches the fifth mortal coil. That's still better than Daoist Blood Pill's situation."

He chuckled deprecatingly for a while before he resumed accepting the inheritance.

He read that in order to help future generations, the Blood Pill Daoist set up her inheritance and placed her Life Pill technique into it. Despite being a failed copy, many people were interested in it because of its ability to be cultivated together with one's main cultivation technique.

Arthur didn't care about her motives for setting up her inheritance. All he cared about was that the Life Pill Art was a technique that was compatible with every type of foundation and cultivation technique.
