Multiverse: Invasion of the 2D Heroines

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: So, Do You Prefer Stew or Barbecue?

The snow-white little snow spirit was still licking the pure blue liquid. Yukinoshita Yukino, watching nervously, had tried to stop it more than once. But this little cat struggled so fiercely that she had no choice but to let go.

Surprisingly, the cat's previously dull and withered fur had become soft, smooth, and shiny. Its near-death state was recovering rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Yukinoshita shifted her cold, emotionless gaze to one particular person. Her eyes silently demanded an explanation from Yoru Moonshadow.

"You're saying this cat hatched from that egg? What's wrong with that?"

Yoru Moonshadow looked completely unfazed, as if this was the most normal thing in the world.

"Cats hatch from eggs, don't they?"

He continued with what he thought was common knowledge and even shot Yukinoshita a slightly pitying glance, as if she was the idiot here. She was an honors student, yet she didn't even know cats were oviparous?

Yukinoshita's expression froze in astonishment, as though she had just witnessed something completely absurd.

"Cats are oviparous? I must say, your knowledge really amazes me. You're just about ready to surpass an elementary schooler's level~"

The words flowed from her pink lips, laced with sarcastic admiration.

To this jab, Yoru Moonshadow was actually a little surprised.

"Cats aren't oviparous? Really? I was pretty sure they were~"

He wasn't pretending to be stupid. As he said this, he quickly pulled out his phone and searched online for information about cats.

"Oh, so in this world, cats aren't oviparous~"

Right, he had confused this world's common sense with that of the various other worlds he'd traveled through. In some of those worlds, creatures that looked just like cats were, in fact, oviparous.

He then felt a faint, almost pitiful sigh directed at him coming from Yukinoshita. His face twitched slightly.

Forget it. No need to argue with such an uninformed woman.

But what exactly was this cat? Was it a magical beast? A monster? A divine beast? Based on its current form, even he couldn't tell.

"So, what are you going to do with it?"

Yukinoshita, seeing that Yoru couldn't explain the origin, didn't press further.

"Should I make soup with it? Or would a barbecue be better?"

Looking at the still happily drinking little creature, Yoru's gaze was like that of a predator eyeing top-grade ingredients.

"Meow~"

Sensing danger, the adorable little thing trembled and immediately clumsily leaped towards Yukinoshita for safety.

...

Time quickly passed, and it was finally the day he was expected to go back to school. Early in the morning, Yoru Moonshadow reluctantly turned off his blaring alarm clock.

Back to school today. Ugh, he really, really, really didn't want to go. But last night, he'd gotten a stern warning from that almost-menopausal woman. If he was late today, she would personally come and drag him to school.

By the way, what happened to that cat? Yoru, who had no intention of raising pets, had simply traded it to a cat lover in exchange for a meal.

Dragging himself to Chiba Municipal Sobu High School after a long absence, he timed his arrival perfectly stepping through the gates just a second before the bell rang. This earned him a cold smirk from a certain well-endowed teacher standing by the entrance.

Now

"That's the situation!"

Before he even made it to his homeroom, Yoru was dragged into the faculty office and forced to listen to the chain-smoking, close-to-menopause teacher dump a new task onto him.

"Please, Yoru, I'm counting on you."

It was the student council president, Shiro Meguri, her hands pressed together in a pleading gesture.

"Fine."

It was hard to refuse. After all, back when the school club recruitment event happened, he'd gotten her help to create his own club and borrow the AV room for promotion. Unfortunately, due to his own screw-up, everything had fallen apart, and it had caused Meguri quite a bit of trouble.

This time, she wanted his help representing Sobu High's student council in a meeting with another high school. Part of the task involved the arts, so they specifically needed him.

Last year, during Sobu High's cultural festival, they had invited that private high school to participate. There had been several joint performances, and some exclusive shows from the visiting school. But what really left a mark was how Sobu High's student council had been completely outmaneuvered by the other school.

Well, maybe "outmaneuvered" wasn't quite the right word. The other school's student had pointed out flaws in Sobu High's event plans with sharp, undeniable logic and had proposed far better alternatives. Almost all of Sobu High's original plans had been scrapped in favor of the other school's suggestions. It was humiliating. The prestigious Sobu High's cultural festival ended up relying on plans from an outside school.

According to the student council, that student was simply too overwhelming. She was eloquent and relentless, making it impossible to argue against her. The council members felt like scolded children, completely unable to push back. Later, when they were invited to the other school's festival, the same thing happened. They were led by the nose again.

So for this upcoming cultural festival, none of last year's participants dared to face her again.

"But I'm only in charge of the art part, right? There must be others handling the overall discussion?"

Surely they wouldn't send him alone?

"Of course, the one who'll handle direct negotiations with that terrifying girl is"

Just as Meguri said this, the faculty office door swung open, and a cold-faced beautiful girl walked in. She paused when she saw Yoru.

Meguri walked over to her with a smile and introduced her.

"Perfect timing, here she is Yukinoshita."

Yoru wasn't surprised. To counter such a formidable opponent, of course Sobu High would send their own top student. Even though Yukinoshita was only a first-year, her abilities surpassed even those of third-years.

Yukinoshita looked at Yoru with her usual cold gaze and softly parted her lips.

"I object. I feel like this man poses a threat to my chastity, so I refuse to accompany him."

"Please, can you stop being so full of yourself? If you had Hiratsuka-sensei's… impressive size, maybe I'd"

"Wham"

"Gah!!"

A brutal hit to his stomach made Yoru nearly vomit his breakfast. He saw Hiratsuka-sensei staring at him with that infamous smile that wasn't really a smile.

How the heck did a teacher like her get this job? Yoru seriously suspected there was something shady involved. Not anything physical, of course. Who could possibly suppress this kind of violent tyrant? She probably just bribed the school. After all, he'd seen her driving luxury sports cars all the time.

"Do not call me Hiratsuka directly. Also, neither of you have the option to refuse!!!"
