Multiverse maintenance:the repairs wizard

Chapter 49: spells, milk bottles and lullabies

I didn't have any doubts that some people were watching and observing what was happening. I sensed most of them, and I say "most" because I had this nagging feeling that there were more I couldn't sense. So, I did the only logical thing I could in this situation: I created a firestorm, obscuring the immediate field of vision, used any and all disguise spells I knew, cast the most powerful protection spells on the baby, and then apparated away with the intent of finding a hospital.

If I didn't have a large magical reserve and an incredibly fast magical energy regeneration, I would have depleted myself by now—that's just how much magic I spent casting all those spells.

My apparition brought me to London; I recognized the area as I looked around. I knew where to find a hospital, so I hurriedly walked there and arrived in less than three minutes.

I didn't bother with anyone asking questions. I just casted a quick 'Imperio' on a nurse, instructed her to take the baby for a check-up, then went to another nurse, did the same, and asked her to bring me two or three bottles of breast milk for the baby.

Now that I had a few moments to breathe and think, I needed to decide what to do next… I also needed to think about what happened today, but it was still too fresh for me to process….Maybe later.

How should I continue? Do I leave the baby at an orphanage? Here in the hospital? What do I want to do? I'm a teenager; I can't tie myself down with responsibilities yet. I haven't enjoyed life, haven't even had sex yet… What if I mess her up? I'm not qualified to raise children—I can barely take care of myself...

Hufffff~~~

Taking a deep breath and exhaling loudly, I calmed myself and took control of my emotions again. Allowing my emotions a free rein when I am not used to it is not a good idea…

Anyhow, as for the baby, I am taking her with me. I'm not a coward who would back away from raising a child simply out of fear of messing her up psychologically… I mean, who among us is truly sane and mentally healthy anyway?

The child isn't fully human either, and I can't, in good conscience, leave her with other kids… What if something happens and she unintentionally harms another child, or a supernatural being finds her and takes her? Yeah, the cons outweigh the pros here, so I'll be keeping her.

'It might even turn out to be fun' I consoled myself~~

I refocused and started sensing around to locate the nurse who took the baby. I found the baby being moved a way before I could even locate the nurse.

WTF???? She was being carried out by someone with an above-average magical reserve. That's definitely not a hospital staff.

I appeared right in front of them, quickly casted a temporary space-locking ward, and stood there for a second just to discern who and why.

He was a man in a black suit, looking young, with a beard and all that, but I didn't focus on him for long.

I casted 'Petrificus Totalus' on him and quickly moved to take the baby from him….She was peacefully sleeping, seemingly oblivious to the chaos around her, which, upon reflection, is exactly how it should be…

The man released his magic, trying to free himself from the curse, but to no avail.

I didn't have time to question him, so I just used 'Legilimency' to dive into his mind.

I discovered that he was there looking for a child with magical potential to take and raise, hoping to restore his house's former glory when he found her—I didn't bother with him any longer and quickly cast 'Avada Kedavra,' killing him.

I returned to the hospital as if nothing had happened, found the nurse I had tasked with finding milk, took the three bottles, and left. I planned to check on her myself when I got home; I just had to transfer the knowledge I wanted into my mind.

I also went about controlling some people to buy baby clothes, diapers, and other necessities before heading home.

As soon as I set foot in my shack, the baby started crying. Even though I had cast protection on her when I apparated home, I didn't use as much magic as the first time, which made her voice her discomfort very loudly or she might be hungry. I don't know I don't speak baby…

I took the milk, cast a warming charm on the bottle, animated the teat to provide a realistic nibbling feel, and put it in her mouth. That quickly silenced her as she began her meal.

Now I had new clothes, diapers, and two more bottles of milk. I needed to secure more breast milk for her—from a human, a devil, and a vampire. I wasn't sure if drinking only human breast milk would have any adverse effects on her…. This baby thing might turn out to be more stressful than anticipated.

I transfigured one of the chairs into a bassinet, added more cushioning charms, and placed her there. Now, I needed to quickly transfer whatever knowledge was urgent: medical spells and enchantments?.

'Yeah, let's focus on that first'.

I sat cross-legged, took a deep breath, and entered my mindscape. I retrieved my Grimoire, repeating the process I had done before— this also meant the consequences would be the same judging by just how quickly I lost control of my thought acceleration, which in turn consumed more of my mental energy, resulting in the headache I was now experiencing…I have to alleviate this by converting some of my magic to mental energy, if only I could figure out how to do it automatically….

The cries of the baby brought me back to reality, her loud cries didn't help with my headache but what can you do…, I went to see what happened and found out just by the smell alone the answer to that.

A quick 'scourgify' followed by a dozen more cleaning and air freshening charms, I then put a diaper on her, clothed her with her new clothes—which I didn't forget to cast more than a dozen cleaning and sterilizing spells on… then just rocked her for a while and she went back to sleep.

'Ugh, now I need to learn how to take care of a baby aside from everything else don't I?' I asked myself….
