Mushoku tensei: The renegade heir

Chapter 36: Randolf Marianne part 1

[give me power stones!!]

The charred bodies of the SeaFolks were left floating in the sea, completely inert and lifeless, It was a terrible scene for anyone to see but it was something I couldn't help.

"I hope these bastards don't come back for revenge..." I muttered to myself as I leaned on the railing.

After a while I returned to the bow of the ship where the other bodies of the SeaFolks lay lifeless.

I honestly didn't care about killing them, they attacked first and I guess without provocation due to the way the captain acted...

But it's not up to me to think about that, so let's leave it aside.

After searching the dead bodies of the Beastfolk for anything of value and finding nothing, go down to the ship's cabins.

walk slowly on the chance that a SeaFolk was hiding here.

But after walking for a while there was no sign of that so I let my guard down.

I searched the cabins and there was no one, even in my own cabin, so I guess everyone is hiding in one place...

That was my thought Until I reached the ship's kitchen and as soon as I entered, an arrow grazed my cheek...

"!!!"

I quickly got into a combat stance and entered the kitchen to confront whoever it was, but I only found the entire crew piled up along with the passengers...

And besides, Roxy and Laws were protecting them with their staff and bow in their hands, so that's where the arrow came from, huh?...

Seeing me, everyone let out sighs of relief, especially Roxy, who smiled at me with relief.

"Pau!!, "I was so worried!!" Hilda screamed as she emerged from the crowd and ran to hug me.

"I'm sorry, I've been worrying you a lot lately haven't I?" I murmured with a smile and Hilda nodded slightly.

"H-hey kid...what happened to the SeaFolks?..." the captain muttered nervously as he looked at me.

"Hey, they attacked me and I just defended myself... you should say that when those bastards claim you" I muttered seriously as I looked into his eyes, the captain flinched slightly but also nodded.

"Okay... then everything is back to normal, everyone please return to your cabins if you would be so kind please, the trip will continue" the captain said regaining his composure and wiping the sweat on his brow.

...

Between me and Laws we cleaned up the bodies of the SeaFolks I killed, I noticed the bastards weren't wearing any clothes, just like scales covering their private parts which was weird.

Unfortunately Gesee mentioned that there is no kind of reward for the body parts of a SeaFolk But I also mention that the metal from their spears could be useful, so we kept them and threw the corpses into the water.

This had been a genuinely busy day and all I cared about was resting and that was what I did until we touched ground or more specifically the central continent and the country is "The Kingdom of the Dragon King"

...

The rest of the trip passed without any further incident and was a boring three days just listening to the sound of the sea and feeling the boat rocking.

But in the end we arrived, the central continent...and from here we would only have to go north to get to Asura...

We were at the eastern edge of the Dragon King's Kingdom in the port city of East Port. Like West Port, the city had a considerable presence of fishermen and smugglers.

Laws and Roxy rented an inn and so the three of us sat at a table around it with a map on top of it, We had to confirm our route.

"Alright, let's talk about what we're going to do from here on out." I muttered with a serious expression

The other two looked at the map with serious expressions on their faces as well, We all agreed that we should look for the fastest and safest route due to the circumstances of our group.

"There are three routes from here to the Asura Kingdom," I explained, pointing at the map I had just bought.

It was a simple map with outlines of the forests and the locations of the villages.

"The first one is a highway used primarily as a trade route."

I used my finger to trace the path, which veered east around the Dragon King Mountains.

"This is the safest route and given the speed of our group, I estimate that we will arrive in ten months..."

"Yeah... I think that's definitely the safest one, plus the third route is literally going back to the Begaritt continent" Laws grumbled and I nodded

I looked at Roxy and she nodded in the same way.

"Okay, it's decided, we'll take that route," I said, and that's how we ended our impromptu meeting.

...

Gesee and I were in charge of finding a new carriage for our large group and fortunately it didn't take us too long due to the size of the city and our monetary disposition.

Laws and Roxy were in charge of provisions, so our time was divided better.

"Hey Paul...do you think the captain doesn't have any problems with the SeaFolks? From what I've heard, that race is very spiteful when it comes to one of their own, not to mention twenty!" Gesee muttered with a worried expression as we walked.

The carriage deal had already been completed, the deal would be that the agency would take him to the outskirts of the city for an extra payment so we were now heading back to the inn.

"...I don't know, but I have other things to worry about besides antagonizing the SeaFolks, and after all they attacked first" I declared seriously.

"I see... I guess you're right..." Gesee muttered in a low voice and then looked up at the sky and after a few seconds he said something to himself...

strange...

When we got to the inn, literally the first thing I did was lay down to sleep since I hadn't been able to sleep well for a week because of the constant rocking of the boat, so I fell asleep very quickly.

But while I was enjoying the rest I felt a sensation of dizziness and when I opened my eyes I was in a completely white room.

"...I don't even have the strength to get angry, just spit it out already" I muttered irritably.

"Eeh?!, what's with that reaction?!, after I helped you rescue Hilda I thought you would trust me more!" Hitogami said in a false tone of sadness while hugging himself.

"Yes, I won't deny that and I thank you, but in exchange you made me an enemy of all of Millis. How am I supposed to trust you? All of your advice harms me in one way or another!" I grumbled.

"Oh, those are just the consequences of your actions. Besides, I see you had a bad time with the Seafolks, right?" He said with a scary smile.

"You sent them?..."

"Of course not, but they felt threatened "Seeing the amount of spells you were casting into the sea, that wasn't my fault, my friend!"

"Well...tell me your damn advice, I want to keep sleeping..."

"Oh? And if I do, would you trust me?" He muttered as he crossed his arms.

"That will depend on how everything ends, I can't guarantee anything and if you don't like it then you can leave" he declared looking into his eyes?...

"...okay! Listen carefully!!" Hitogami said excitedly "ahem!!, Paul! Follow your predetermined path and when you reach a small town called Danidia ask the locals about a restaurant run by a man named Randolf Marianne!, If you do this...you will become stronger than you ever dreamed!!" Hitogami's voice echoed in my ears like a distant sound.

I didn't even try to ask how or why, it wouldn't help and Hitogami should have already left.

...

I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom where I vomited until my stomach was empty and used water magic to clean my mouth.

The walk back to bed felt longer than usual, my stomach still hurt and I was terribly dizzy.

"Paul?... Are you okay? I heard you threw up a lot," Hilda murmured as she sat on the bed. My sudden movements must have woken her up.

"It's okay, maybe something I ate here made me sick, let's keep sleeping" I murmured as I lay down next to him.

"Are you sure?...I felt like you were mumbling something in your sleep, was it a nightmare?" she murmured and pulled my face between her breasts.

you're playing with fire right now miss...

"No, it's nothing bad, let's keep sleeping, tomorrow will be a busy day" I declared as I separated myself from his grip like a worm.

"Hmmm! You know how many nobles were dying to have me in their bed in Asura and now you reject me?" She grumbled but continued to hug me.

"I'm sorry for not being a monster young lady" I said with a smile and kissed her on the forehead causing her to blush.

"F-forgiven, darling," she murmured weakly, burying her head in my chest, So we stayed hugging until we fell asleep.

Two days had passed, and we could finally resume our group. The city of Danidia was three days away, but there was no need to take any detours or anything like that, so I was relaxed. We continued with our traveling style in the carriage, taking turns driving between Gesse, me, Laws, and occasionally even Roxy. With that, we were able to reach Danidia in just a day and a half.

"Well... let's rest a bit; I'll go check something in the village," I murmured, and before Hilda could ask what it was, I ran off toward the city.

Fortunately, it was easy to locate the restaurant since the village was somewhat small, and the name Randolf Marianne was slightly known around here.

The restaurant was average; there was nothing remarkable about it, just a small cabin on the outskirts of the city with a few tables in front where people were eating.

It seemed like whoever was running it was doing well. But there was just one problem... The cook, if I could describe him in one word, would be terrifying... yes, terrifying. The guy wore a white apron and was focused on making the meals, but he still gave me chills just by looking at him. He was too thin, so thin that he looked malnourished, had a patch over his right eye, white hair, slightly greenish skin, and a super creepy smile.

I honestly hesitated to even go there because of the bad vibes that guy gave me.

But besides that, there was something wrong with that guy... despite his harmless appearance and composure, this guy gave off an aura of danger...

Yes, an aura of danger, the guy was in a disadvantageous position from a warrior's point of view, but for some reason I wouldn't dare attack him...

that was the aura that the guy issued...

"Okay Paul, you can do it..." I muttered to myself and started walking towards the restaurant.

There were more customers besides me and they were all eating, oblivious to what I was doing.

I sat at a lonely table waiting for the food since in this world the concept of ordering different foods did not exist, if you came to a restaurant they would only serve you one type of exclusive food.

When I sat down the guy looked straight at me and a scary smile formed on his face and he started walking towards me until he was in front of my table.

"Good morning young man, your food will be ready in a few moments, it will cost 3 copper coins," he said, extending his hand.

I took out the money he asked me for and he immediately returned into the kitchen and after about two minutes the guy came back with a bowl of purple broth in his hand that was emitting green smoke....

You have to be fucking kidding me

From the purple broth, some meats and some boiled vegetables stood out, but you must be stupid not to raise your guard when faced with a meal of this type.

Could it be poisoned? It seems so.

"Okay, enjoy your meal young man and tell me if you need anything else" the guy said and so he returned to the kitchen.

I looked at the plate and the smell of the broth reached me and...it smelled pretty good, I was even surprised.

But I couldn't let my guard down so I concentrated mana in my hand, ready to cast detox magic in case something happened.

I took the spoon and dipped it into the bowl taking some broth and meat and slowly put it in my mouth.

"Hmm?!" It didn't taste bad at all...the broth was a little salty but not too much, the meat was tender and fatty, a nice meal but nothing out of the ordinary.

The next bite was the same and the third and the fourth...and before I knew it I had finished the meal.

"Huh?...w-what happened?" I muttered to myself.

I looked around and the other customers were eating the same thing as me, completely unfazed by me.

I looked into the kitchen and the cook was there...staring at me in such a scary way that it made my hair stand on end.

But if that wasn't enough he started walking towards me.

"So, young man? How was the meal?" The guy asked.

"...it was delicious, can I have another plate please?..." The words left my mouth involuntarily and an even more terrifying smile formed on the cook's face.

"Of course! And this time it will be around the house!" The man said and ran back to the kitchen to give me another ration.

After eating the second dish I was already completely full so I returned where my group was, but inside I felt like I was forgetting something...

"Hey kid!!" A familiar voice called from behind me and when I turned around it was the restaurant cook now wearing a brown tunic.

"Huh?...is that you?" I murmured in surprise "what's going on?" I asked confused.

"nothing special, I just wanted to thank you for your compliments on my cooking, you see my dream has always been a cook but apparently I don't have the talent for it since people either leave my restaurant upset or don't finish the food I serve" the guy said while shrugging.

"Oh, sorry to hear that, and yes, I liked your food," I said with a smile.

"Thank you very much, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!" The guy said with another smile and then I remembered why I had come to the restaurant in the first place almost making me slap myself in the forehead.

"Actually yes, I would like to know if you know a guy named Randolf Marianne" I murmured.

"Oh?...Hahahaha! Well, you're in luck because it's me!!" The guy said, crossing his arms proudly, and I blinked in confusion.

This is the guy who will make me stronger?!

"But I have to ask...why did you know I was here?" The guy said with such a serious tone that it caught me off guard and made me tremble with fear.

"W-well...I heard over there that you could make me much stronger than I ever dreamed of" I mumbled weakly.

Randolf turned his head in confusion and then let out a laugh.

"Well then, to thank you for your kindness with my food, I'll put you to the test," he said with a sadistic smile and before I could react, he had a sword that came out of nowhere at my neck...
