Mushoku tensei: The renegade heir

Chapter 38: Continuing on the road

[coment and give me power stones!!]

[Millis Central Chapel]

Inside his room a man with a bushy, unkempt beard was drumming his fingers on his desk.

Sweat ran from his forehead and his heart was beating a mile a minute, dark circles were visible on his face and he was breathing heavily as he leaned back in his chair.

It was none other than Cardinal Markus Ricota, leader of the Anti-Demon faction in Millis.

And the reason for his current state was the lack of news from the swordsman Enzo Moreira.

It had been two weeks since his assistant Adolf sent them to search for the boy known as Paul Notos Greyrat, but after all this time there was no news of either of them.

But what scared him the most were the rumors.

Several bodies of bandits on the side of the road near the town of Moldia And a few hundred meters away there is a trail of destruction in the forest, as if it had been burned but in a perfectly straight line.

For Markus this was just another nail in his coffin, the boy had defeated Enzo and had probably already left the continent.

Not only that, but he took away one of the most powerful guards from the Papa's faction and the Latreia have already joined him recently.

The situation of his faction was precarious after losing one of its members and its most powerful prospects.

And if that were not enough, the Latreia have launched threats to the faction and threaten to destroy it.

But what could he be now? His few allies were already turning against him and he feared death.

But for Markus there was only one thing certain and that was that he had to kill Paul Notos Greyrat, now with Asura destroyed, Millis became the most powerful nation in the world Therefore, many resources would begin to arrive in the city and he had to make the most of them.

Now Markus is certain that Paul Notos Greyrat killed Couleon and has taken matters into his own hands by issuing a public arrest warrant against him, accusing him of identity theft.

Fortunately, both of these offenses are severely punished in Millis, and any embassy they cross will be a line of fire for Paul and his group.

But the cardinal was not satisfied with this so he put a reward on the boy's head and it would be 100 Millis gold coins.

Now Markus was sure that with this, the boy's life would become hell and it wouldn't be long until he died or was brought before him.

...

[Paul Pov]

I woke up suddenly and everything was spinning around me, I opened my eyes and saw the clear blue sky thanks to the sky I was still alive.

But there was something strange, my head felt comfortable...too comfortable to just be on the floor.

It was like two fluffy pillows were resting my head on, they smelled nice too, but they moved a little.

Instinctively I moved my hand and touched one of the pillows...it was extremely soft and warm, I didn't want to take my hand away from there but...

"P-Paul...not here..." A girl's embarrassed voice reached my ears and I immediately looked up only to have my vision blocked by two mountains of C-cup flesh.

"Hilda! W-what are you doing here?" I muttered embarrassed as I jumped up from her lap.

"Hey! When we came to see you I found you on the floor and Roxy was talking to this guy who looks like a skull!!" She grumbled, crossing her arms as she stood up with difficulty.

Maybe my head cut off the circulation to her legs so I helped her stand up.

"Oh wow! You're finally awake! You had us all worried, buddy!" Randolf said as he approached me with his usual terrifying smile.

"P-Paul!..." Hilda muttered in panic as she stood behind me.

"Oh, I'm sorry for scaring you, young lady!, My name is Randolf Marianne and I was training with your boyfriend until a few moments ago before he fainted" he said while making a soft bow.

"I-I see..." Was the only thing Hilda could murmur as she held my hand tightly.

"How long did i sleep?" I asked.

"Just under half an hour, your girlfriend just arrived" the guy said and another terrifying smile formed on his face...I'll never get used to looking at him.

"Well...I guess you already know the reason why you fell unconscious, right?" Randolf said, getting serious, which made him even more terrifying given the strength with which Hilda held me.

"Yeah...that was a long lightsaber wasn't it?" I muttered with a raised eyebrow.

"Exactly! Congratulations, Paul! From today on, you can consider yourself a sword saint! And after today, a triple saint!" Randolf said with such emotion that it surprised me.

"Thank you very much..." I replied as I bowed in the same way.

"You're welcome, my restaurant will be open for many more years, so if you want to come eat there sometime again, you're totally invited," Randolf said with a smile and so we all went out on the outskirts of the city.

I felt much better, more refreshed and much more confident in myself.

"Paul?...is that true?" Hilda murmured as she tugged on my shirt lightly.

"what thing?"

"You're a triple sword saint...could you really have advanced so much in less than a day?" She asked as she looked me in the eyes.

"Hehe...yeah, I haven't processed it yet, but I have gotten stronger!" I said while flexing one of my arms to show off but she blushed deeply.

"g-good!...I-I'm glad you've made progress" she murmured with a smile and intertwined her fingers.

This simple act of hers seemed extremely adorable to me so I couldn't help but squeeze her cheeks while ignoring her fake pouts.

...

"I see... then many congratulations on your achievement Paul" Flute murmured from the back of the carriage with a smile.

It had been a couple of hours since we had left the small town of Danidia.

Unfortunately there wouldn't be another town nearby for another week of travel, so Roxy and Laws made sure to buy enough supplies.

I wasn't so alert during this part of the trip because of Milis's guards; we're already on another continent, and news does take a while to arrive.

Therefore I will be safe as long as I do not give my full name to strangers.

"Thank you very much, Flute. How is Lilia?" I asked, glancing at the girl on the woman's lap.

"She's already much better than before, she's gained quite a bit of fat and muscle these days, she'll be completely fine in a month with this progress," she said while stroking her daughter's head which brought a smile to my face.

"Although I have told you several times but...thank you very much for everything Paul, most people would have just left us in Millis at our mercy or wouldn't have even helped us and you protect us and escort us without expecting anything in return...I don't know how to repay you for all this" she murmured but began to lightly play with the neckline of her blouse...oh no.

"There's no need for anything, it's just so I don't feel guilty about myself for not doing anything for my people," I said as I raised my hands in surrender.

At this, Flute's eyes opened wide, but after a few seconds a smile formed on his face.

"Sure...thank you very much for that then" she said and turned her gaze to the road marking the end of the conversation.

"Wow man, what's the secret?!" Gesee muttered irritably next to me.

He was currently driving the carriage but sitting next to her he could hear the conversation.

"What do you mean by secret?" I muttered, raising an eyebrow.

"You know!...well I mean, you got a girlfriend in less than a day and you have mother and daughter drooling over you bro! What's the secret!" Gesse muttered a little louder than necessary and I just wrinkled his nose in disgust.

"There's no secret to being kind, besides... it's not like he's some damn womanizer who throws himself at any woman who crosses his path," i declared in a whisper as i took Gesse strongly by the arm.

"A-ah yeah...being nice...but niceness doesn't reward you with girls opening their legs for you" the monkey face whispered while grinding his teeth in genuine frustration.

"Dude...you need to reorganize your priorities," I murmured breathlessly at my partner's words.

...

After an hour of silence, Gesse's turn ended and we switched places with the one driving The carriage was a heavy machine but controlled by horses was easier.

"Paul...how are you? I've noticed you're pretty quiet," Roxy said behind me and then sat down next to me.

"Rox...it's nothing, I just haven't processed the fact of being a triple saint yet" I murmured with a smile but Roxy kept looking me in the eyes.

"I've spent enough time with you to know that you're lying, what's bothering you?" She asked more seriously now.

I didn't even know it, there were so many things on my mind right now.

Fear, excitement, uncertainty, lust, depravity, irritation and endless more but I could only think of one answer.

"My family...I'm worried about my family, I didn't tell you this but...When I fought with Enzo he said that I had been declared dead and so had my family" I muttered while trying not to imagine the worst.

"But I still have a glimmer of hope... I was declared dead and here I am... I pray every day that my mother and Philip are still on their way to Asura and so once everyone arrives, we can all meet up" I muttered as I looked down the road.

"Paul...I'm so sorry, I didn't know that's what you felt...I'd forgotten after all this time that you're just a kid...Don't worry, I also believe that everything will be okay" she said and gave me a big hug that made my heart beat faster.

"W-well! Thank you very much for the advice, I'll take it all!" I murmured blushing and Roxy nodded satisfied.

"Okay, let me know when you're tired so I can be relevant!" She said with a smile and then lightly patted me on the shoulder.

I could only nod again as I felt my face heat up with embarrassment.

What's wrong with me?!...

This isn't the first time this has happened to me while I'm with her...

As I continued driving the carriage I glanced at her, she was sitting on the floor of the carriage looking at the landscape.

The way she leaned back, her serene expression, the way her pigtails swayed in the air...

From one moment to the next I found myself admiring every single part of Roxy...

And right at that moment the realization hit me like a truck, I was in love with Roxy.

When these words crossed my mind my cheeks blushed even more and I looked away abruptly towards the road.

When, how and why did this happen? Since when do I start love her? Why do I love her?

All these questions invaded my mind in a millisecond and I had no answers for any of them.

But then I remembered my situation, I'm barely ten years old in this body... I may have the mind of a 27-year-old but that won't even be enough to catch Roxy's attention...

Uggh! Why, of all the women I'm surrounded by, did it have to be Roxy! Why not Hilda? What do I feel for Hilda?...

Do I love her?, yes I love her, but in a different way, like a little sister.

But why couldn't it have been her? Then her feelings would have been reciprocated...

"Uggh...this is all bullshit" I muttered to myself as I tried to focus on the road, I'd have time to sort out this childhood crush, I had more important things to do.

...

"nggh...agh!" I started to moan from the effort as I tried to concentrate, another week had passed since our trip and according to my calculations our next stop will be the kingdom of Shirone, Which is a satellite state of the Kingdom of the Dragon King and our estimated time of arrival, based on the speed of our carriage, would be two months...

Gesee was currently driving the carriage and I was sitting on the edge of it with my legs dangling over the edge and from my hands a blue light shone dimly as I concentrated.

I had recently been training again with barrier magic, due to my teachings at the Asura Royal Academy, I knew that these spells could also be done by magic circles.

But that wasn't the point, I could feel something, I knew that if I could manipulate the barriers I could make a defensive weapon that had never been seen before...

Since I only knew barrier magic up to the advanced rank, I could only protect myself from those attacks up to that rank, but it's not like most people could reach the advanced rank in magic or swords even.

My goal was simple, to manipulate barrier magic to the point where I could use it to both protect myself and attack.

As if it were some kind of secondary Touki that would protect me and let me fight.

Do you know what I could achieve with something like that?!I had been stagnating for the past few years with my elemental magic, not counting healing magic, but I relied much more on the sword these days.

"Hmm!" With a gentle push, a blue barrier about a meter in diameter formed around me.

"Is that the magic you're talking about?" Hilda murmured beside me and I nodded with my eyes closed.

"fuuu...let's go" I began to concentrate my mana around my body and the barrier began to decrease its size until it became like an armor around my body, but I could feel it from the first instant.

This form was terribly unstable...

With my right hand I kept the flow of mana in the barrier and with my left I tried to make a ball of water.

But no matter how much mana I tried to concentrate in my hand, nothing happened, so I struggled for ten minutes until I lost control of the barrier.

"haaa!..." I let out a strangled scream of frustration as I lay down on the floor.

He had already lost count of how many times he had failed to execute the spell he had planned and Roxy's words didn't help either.

"Current spells have existed for centuries and no one has ever been able to modify them, if you really want to achieve this you will have to create your own spells..." These were the words that Roxy told me It's been two days and honestly it doesn't make me feel any better.

How the hell am I supposed to make a new spell from scratch?!

As I caught my breath my eyes flew open.

The electric one...I demonstrated it to Roxy on the beaches of East Harbor and at first she mistook it for the electric king rank water spell.

The spell I cast was different, it was literally a pillar of light that swept away everything in its path...

And how did I manage to do it?...because I imagined it.

I've always thought that magic has a lot more potential than people think.

And also the fact that I can cast spells without enchantment is a key factor for my spell manipulation...

"Okay, let's try it again..." I muttered to myself as I stood up and stood in the middle of the carriage.

"Paul?...Is something wrong?" Hilda's worried voice reached my ears and I responded with a small smile.

"nothing happens" I answered and began to concentrate the mana in my hands.

From my hands a blue glow emerged and from my body the same light began to sprout.

I didn't give any commands, I just imagined what I wanted my mana to do and surprisingly it was much easier than before.

"Hah!" When I opened my eyes a blue aura surrounded me, it was not like the previous crystalline barrier but it was a derivative.

"Roxy...throw a water ball at me" I murmured as I looked at her excitedly.

"Uh? A water ball?...okay," She answered without understanding why.

Water droplets formed on his hand and a ball of water the size of a soccer ball formed and Water droplets formed on his hand and a ball of water the size of a soccer ball formed and the next moment it shot out at me only to vanish upon touching the blue aura around me.

"Oh shit!" I screamed in excitement as I pointed my hand out of the carriage, conjuring a water ball.

The spell was executed without problems and crashed into a tree, splitting it in two.

"I did it..." I muttered and a smile formed on my face.

I managed to make my first own spell.
