We talked about money

"Mr. Takumi. Are you finished now?"

"Mr. Keith? Uh…yes, I'm done. Is something the matter?"

As I was talking to Walter and the others, Keith came out of the house. I had thought that he was talking with Sebastian?

"I wanted to ask you about something… Ms. Lyra, please come with us."

"Me to? Very well."

"…Of course. Aloysius. The rest of you. I'll see you later. Liza, it's good that you waited so quietly here. You can go and play with Tilura now."

"Okay!"

And so I returned to the house with Keith and Ms. Lyra…

As I did not have an office in the house, I generally came here when talking to other people.

If I asked, Claire and Sebastian would likely provide a room for me. But I would have my own house soon enough, so I would just wait.

We could also just use the drawing room, but this gave us more privacy.

"So, what did you want to ask me? I suppose it was something the others shouldn't hear…"

"I am terribly sorry. But there is something I felt you should decide quickly."

"Should I really hear it too?"

"Yes, as it relates to you too, Ms. Lyra. After all, you are going to be the head maid."

What was he talking about? Well, since it was Keith, it must be related to money.

"It's about everyone's salary. At the very least, for the people you've already decided to hire."

"Ah, of course."

Indeed, it was something difficult to discuss while others were around.

And it would have been even more awkward to do it in front of the servants who I decided not to take with me.

"Sebastian did tell me what the average rates were…"

"Yes, I have heard about that. And so…"

Keith then gave me some suggestions for the salaries.

It was rather high, though, not unexpected. After all, they would be living with us, so it would cost more.

Additionally, those in management positions, like head maid and butler, would get some benefits.

A good salary would help to motivate them, and so I did not want to be stingy.

"I do not need a high salary. There is not much that I want or opportunity to use…"

"No, Ms. Lyra. That will not do. You are to be the head maid. If your salary was lowered, then it would affect the others as well."

"I agree with Keith."

Even if she was satisfied with it, the others may not.

And we could hardly be paying the maids working under her a higher salary…

"You've helped me a lot since I came to this house, and will continue to help me. Well, that is true of Keith and the others as well."

"…Yes, certainly. Thank you."

"So, is it finalized then? I have shared the information with Mr. Sebastian already. We've considered the profits from the herbs, as well as future profits, and believe that you will be making more than enough."

"Indeed…"

I had spent a lot of money, and would likely spend more in the future.

There was the building of the house and other expenses and payments I had to make to Claire and Sebastian. But even then, I would have plenty left.
