Chapter 11: The Toad
Minato was deep in thought about Yue's situation. He suspected it was highly likely related to natural energy.
Over the past two years, whenever he had free time, Minato would visit Mount Myōboku to train in Senjutsu under the guidance of the Two Great Toad Sages. With the help of toad oil, he had learned to sense the tiny firefly-like particles of natural energy floating around.
However, what puzzled him was how Yue, without any guidance or the aid of toad oil, had managed to sense natural energy just by practicing the Kagura Mind's Eye.
And this energy was incredibly dangerous…
"Yue, promise me you won't try to guide those glowing dots into your body on your own. I'll teach you how to handle them in the future, but you're still too young right now. Don't be in a rush, okay?"
Seeing how serious Minato was, Kushina also became visibly worried.
Minato was amazed by his son. Even by accident, Yue had managed to come into contact with natural energy—something that only the three Great Sage Lands were known for. Perhaps it was time to let Yue learn the Summoning Jutsu, and while at it, introduce him to the Two Great Sages.
That evening, the family of three sat together after dinner, watching television. Yue found the programs utterly uninteresting—the plots were cliché, the acting stiff, and the props shoddy. However, Kushina was thoroughly enjoying herself, so he simply accompanied her to pass the time.
At 8 p.m., Yue got up and returned to his room to sleep. He valued his physical development and maintained a scientifically planned sleep schedule.
"Kushina, I plan to take Yue to practice the Summoning Jutsu tomorrow. His thirst for knowledge is too strong—I want to show him the consequences of failing Senjutsu training firsthand. I'm really worried about him attempting it alone."
"But isn't my little sunshine supposed to attend a meeting tomorrow? Will it be alright?"
"It's fine, I'll take the morning off."
The next morning, after breakfast, Yue was about to leave as usual when Kushina called him back.
"Yue, wait for Minato at the Hokage Office today. He said he's going to teach you a powerful ninjutsu!"
Hearing that he had the chance to learn a new technique, Yue had no objections. He grabbed Ryūzen and rushed straight to the Hokage Office.
"Good morning, young master Yue! Are you here to see Lord Minato?"
At the entrance of the Hokage Office, a ninja with a burn scar on his right cheek greeted him.
"Hello. Who are you? And why are you calling me 'young master'?"
"My name is Banjō Raitō. That guy over there, sunbathing with a toothpick in his mouth, is Shiranui Genma. We will be part of Lord Minato's Hokage Guard after his official appointment. As for why I called you 'young master'—well, as the Hokage's son, your status is naturally more distinguished now."
"Where's my father? And please don't call me 'young master.'"
Yue felt uncomfortable with this blatant display of social hierarchy.
"Lord Minato should be out any moment now."
As soon as Banjō Raitō finished speaking, Minato walked out of the Hokage Office.
"Yue. Raitō."
Minato greeted them. Yue could tell that Raitō held great respect for Minato—his posture immediately straightened, and he solemnly called out, "Lord Minato!"
At the same time, the lazy-looking man with a toothpick in the distance opened his eyes and, in a near-instantaneous Body Flicker, appeared beside Raitō.
Yue was also very interested in the Body Flicker Technique. He wanted to understand how such an explosive burst of speed could be executed without harming the body.
"I took the morning off to spend time with Yue today, so you two can take a break as well."
"Understood, sir!"
"Let's go, Yue."
Minato led Yue toward the training grounds behind the village. The two guards remained where they were, watching Minato's departing figure.
"That's Lord Minato's son?"
"Yes… but from our conversation just now… that child seems different."
Banjō Raitō recalled Yue's expression, gaze, and tone of voice during their exchange. There was a certain coldness to him—unlike any normal child.
Meanwhile, Minato and Yue arrived at their destination. Minato pulled out a large scroll, about the same height as Yue.
"Yue, today I'm going to teach you the Summoning Jutsu. This jutsu falls under space-time ninjutsu. There are two main types:
Blood Contract Summoning: This summons an animal companion to aid in battle. It requires forming a blood contract with a specific summoning clan, and the size of the summoned creature depends on the amount of chakra used.
Non-Blood Contract Summoning: This summons stored objects from another location, like weapon scrolls."
"Today, I'll be teaching you the Blood Contract Summoning with the Toad Clan. This scroll before you is used to sign the blood contract with them."
"I'll demonstrate first. The hand seals are Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram."
Minato bit his thumb, quickly formed the seals, and slammed his bloodstained hand onto the ground. The surface was immediately covered in intricate symbols, followed by a loud poof as a thick cloud of smoke erupted, momentarily obscuring Yue's vision.
However, Yue had already activated his Kagura Mind's Eye and could clearly sense Minato's chakra. More importantly, he detected another presence appearing beneath Minato—one with chakra levels surpassing Banjō Raitō's.
As the smoke cleared, Yue gradually saw the scene before him. Minato was now standing atop a large red toad, about the size of a small car. The toad's body was covered in black markings, and a jade pendant inscribed with the kanji for "loyalty" hung around its neck.
"This is Gamachu. Chu, this is my son, Namikaze Yue."
Gamachu glanced around and was relieved—it seemed like he wasn't summoned for a fight or some showy performance.
"What's up, Minato?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to show Yue the effects of the Summoning Jutsu. Sorry for the trouble, Chu."
"No problem. If that's all, I'll be heading back now."
With a poof, Gamachu vanished.
"Father, where do they come from when summoned?"
Yue was excited. He realized this jutsu involved breaking through spatial boundaries.
"The toads live in Mount Myōboku, which exists in a separate space connected to the ninja world by several entry points."
Minato noticed Yue's excitement and assumed it was due to seeing a powerful jutsu.
"A whole mountain? That suggests a limited area—it's probably not an entirely different world. More like a small pocket dimension created by a powerful being and attached to the ninja world."
After a moment of thought, Yue calmed down. This world didn't seem advanced enough to break through to outer space, let alone travel between planets. He refocused on the present.
"Should I sign the contract now?"
Upon Minato's prompting, Yue nodded. Minato unrolled the massive scroll, revealing the last two names: Namikaze Minato, Jiraiya.
Looking further up, Yue didn't recognize any of the earlier names. After a quick glance, he confirmed there were no particularly famous individuals listed.
Following Minato's instructions, Yue bit his finger and wrote his name in blood next to Minato's.
The moment he finished, Yue felt a strange sensation—something inexplicable—but it disappeared just as quickly as it came.
At the same time, Minato frowned, staring at the scroll.
"Why did your name disappear…?"
