Chapter 12: Prophecy

"Was he rejected by Mount Myōboku…?"

Minato was puzzled. When he had signed the contract with Mount Myōboku, all he had to do was follow Jiraiya's instructions and write his name down. It was a simple process.

"Looks like I'll have to ask Lord Fukasaku about this."

Yue observed Minato deep in thought. However, he personally didn't feel disappointed. He believed that personal strength was the most important thing. While summoning techniques could create a two-against-one advantage, Yue remained steadfast in his belief that a shinobi's strength should always come first.

"Alright then, I'll teach you a few Wind Release jutsu first, and then I'll take a trip to Mount Myōboku to figure out what's going on."

Minato then taught Yue three Wind Release jutsu: Vacuum Sphere, Gale Palm, and Great Breakthrough.

After watching Minato demonstrate them once and thinking over the principles he explained, Yue successfully performed all three techniques on his first try. This level of talent left Minato astonished.

"Be extra careful when practicing these jutsu. Wind Release techniques have powerful cutting effects—you don't want to injure yourself. Alright, I'm off now."

After staying with Yue for another half an hour to make sure he wouldn't get hurt while practicing, Minato left with a puff, disappearing from sight.

"So summoning techniques can also be used like this? You can even summon living people…?"

Yue suddenly found himself interested in summoning jutsu again. He thought that this kind of application could be quite useful in certain situations.

Mount Myōboku

The moment Minato reverse-summoned himself to Mount Myōboku, he noticed that the atmosphere was different from usual. Gamabunta, Gamaken, and Gamahiro were all present, sitting motionless with serious expressions.

"Gamabunta, did something happen?"

"Oh, Minato—looks like the old geezer had another prophecy. He even had Fukasaku and Shima summon Jiraiya here. Since you're here too, you should go listen in. Jiraiya and the two elders are with the Great Toad Sage right now."

"Sōka (I see)…"

Minato suddenly felt a heavy weight in his heart. He had just failed to help Yue sign the contract with Mount Myōboku, and now the Great Toad Sage had a prophecy. He couldn't help but worry—was it related to Yue?

With this uneasy feeling, Minato quickly made his way to the Great Toad Sage's resting place. Upon entering the hall, he saw that Jiraiya and the two elder toads had already arrived.

"Sensei, Lord Fukasaku, Lady Shima."

"Oh? Minato, what brings you here today?" Fukasaku responded.

"I actually came to ask you both something, but compared to the Great Toad Sage's prophecy, it doesn't seem as important. So, what's the situation?"

"The moment we arrived, the Great Toad Sage fell asleep. We're just waiting for him to wake up."

Jiraiya sat cross-legged on the floor and turned his attention to Yue. It seemed like the kid had left quite the impression on him.

"How's that Yue kid doing?"

"Same as always—not much of a talker. But his talent… it's truly astonishing. Even at such a young age, he picks things up ridiculously fast."

Minato felt conflicted about Yue's personality, but when it came to his talent, he couldn't help but feel an immense sense of pride.

"Is that so? Sounds like a little genius… Haha! Then the three of us—myself, you, and Yue—should make Mount Myōboku the most powerful summoning land in history!"

Jiraiya, ever the optimist, suddenly burst into an awkward dance mid-conversation…

"Actually, I wanted to ask you both something. When I had Yue sign the summoning contract just now, his name disappeared from the scroll within seconds. Any idea why?"

"Disappeared? That's impossible. I've never heard of such a thing happening before."

Fukasaku was visibly shocked.

"The old man's right. Even when we found out that some previous summoners had poor character, we had to perform specific rituals to revoke their contracts. And even then, their names didn't vanish—they simply changed from red to black. But Yue's name vanished the moment he wrote it down… That's something I've never seen before."

"I see… Then I guess we'll have to wait until the Great Toad Sage wakes up to get an answer."

The two shinobi and the two elder toads continued their conversation, discussing topics like whether Minato would have a second child to keep Yue company, how the toads wanted to force them to stay for lunch, and Minato's progress with Sage Mode training.

Time passed, and the sun was now high overhead. The Great Toad Sage still hadn't woken up.

At this moment, Shima was enthusiastically inviting Jiraiya and Minato to her home for lunch, excitedly promoting the fresh ingredients she had worked hard to gather that morning.

Jiraiya and Minato, however, were furiously shaking their heads, looking as if they were suffering from severe constipation.

Just as Shima was about to drag them off by force, the Great Toad Sage stirred, seemingly awakened by the commotion. To Jiraiya and Minato, this was nothing short of a lifesaver.

The Prophecy

"Hmm? Jiraiya, Minato, why are you here?"

"Great Sage, you called me here yourself. You said you had a new prophecy for me."

Jiraiya's response was full of exhaustion—this always happened…

"Did I?"

"Why were you here again?"

Jiraiya really wanted to tell the old toad to go take a nap somewhere else, but since this was about the future of the shinobi world, he had to bite his tongue and repeat himself.

"Hmm… I remember now. Jiraiya, my dream has changed. I saw a young man with sky-blue eyes. Behind him, there was peace. Opposing him were two individuals with extremely powerful dōjutsu. Their hair was red—one represented war, the other represented pain. These three will engage in many great battles."

After hearing the prophecy, Jiraiya fell silent. He still vividly remembered the war orphans he had once taught at the end of the Second Shinobi War.

"Could it be you, Nagato…?"

Last year, as the Third Shinobi War was nearing its end, Jiraiya had heard that a civil war had erupted across the entire Land of Rain.

Worried about his former students, he had personally gone to gather information. However, what he discovered left him heartbroken.

"Are you still alive…?"

Jiraiya decided that after Minato became Hokage, he would set out to confirm the truth for himself.

Minato, on the other hand, was confused. Jiraiya had always believed that he was the prophesied child. But now, Minato was already a father—he was no longer a "young man."

And then there were the two red-haired individuals with powerful dōjutsu. He knew that strong dōjutsu users were typically from the Uchiha or Hyūga clans, but neither clan had ever had red-haired members…

"Great Sage, why was my son, Namikaze Yue, unable to sign the Mount Myōboku contract?"

Just as the Great Toad Sage was about to drift back to sleep, Minato quickly asked.

"He… is not suited for Mount Myōboku…"

With that, the Great Toad Sage immediately began snoring, leaving Minato unable to ask any further questions.

"Don't worry about it, Minato. You can always find another summoning contract for Yue. Though it's a shame he won't be able to train in Senjutsu…"

"It's not the Senjutsu that concerns me. I just don't understand why Mount Myōboku rejected him."

Minato then explained how Yue could sense natural energy while training Kagura Mind's Eye, leaving Jiraiya with the unsettling feeling that he had wasted his entire life…
