Chapter 188: Global Outage (E)
Morose
Sebastia International Airport
"Daddy, can't we stay here a bit longer?" An eight-year-old girl dangled on her father's arm and pulled it downwards.
"No, Lana, we can't. Your school is starting tomorrow, so we must return alright? Be a good girl and stop troubling your dad," her mother pulled her away and lightly scolded her.
"...ok", Lana replied disappointedly while puffing her cheeks.
The three of them soon made their way towards the luggage check-in counter and waited in the queue.
"If only our flight was missed…" Lana grumbled to herself.
She hated going to school and wanted her summer vacation to last a bit longer.
It was finally their turn to check in their luggage.
Her father handed the ticket printout to the receptionist, who typed in their PNR number on the computer in front of her.
A light frown appeared on her face the next moment. Her system had suddenly started lagging.
"Is there a problem?" Lana's father noticed this and asked.
"It's nothing, sir," The receptionist said and tried to reboot her system the next moment.
However, her frown worsened when her computer restarted. She had lost her connection to the server.
"Hey Tim, I seem to have lost connection to the server," She told the person on the counter next to her.
Tim's expression was the same as hers.
"It's the same on my end," Tim answered and checked on the other systems to confirm it and returned.
"It's a system outage. Everyone's facing it," Tim told the receptionist next to him in a serious manner before addressing the passenger in front of him.
The receptionist understood the severity of the claim and immediately apologised to Lana's father, who was looking at the situation with confusion in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, sir, but it seems like there is a problem on our server. Can you please wait until we solve it?" The receptionist told Lana's father.
A similar situation was seen unfolding on all the check-in counters of the airport.
The passengers started to panic and asked several questions to the staff, and the staff replied with 'We are contacting the technical team. We'll answer all your queries soon'
Over time, the situation only worsened as the staff realised that it was not just the check-in counters but the airport's main computing system that was facing an outage.
Flight timelines were no longer visible, boarding gates were closed, and all the flights were brought to a halt.
"We are currently facing a massive system outage. I request all passengers to co-operate with the staff as we try to resolve the situation at the earliest. Thank you for your understanding."
The airport supervisor announced and started calling various numbers.
This incident was not limited to just Sebastia Airport.
All major domestic and international airports around the world were facing a similar ordeal.
…..
Meanwhile, in RainStrike's headquarters in Lycon Valley, the situation was even more chaotic.
"It's a DDOS attack!!!" Someone exclaimed as they tried to access their system, but it was unresponsive.
"Shit! How did this happen?!" The technical manager grabbed his hair when he realised how massive the problem was.
"REBOOT THE SYSTEMS AND CALL EVERYONE TO THE OFFICE., We MUST resolve it as fast as possible!!" He ordered his subordinates and started delegating everyone their work.
Arthur too rushed to his desk and did his best to resolve the problem, but failed.
The moment the system was restarted, it was once again flooded with traffic and became impossible to navigate.
"God dammit!" He exclaimed, and it was the same with the rest of the staff.
"ISOLATE THE NETWORKS!" The leader ordered, and they manually pulled out their connections to all the supporting servers.
'This is not going to end well for us,' Arthur thought in his mind as his team got fully involved in figuring out the cause and remedy.
….
On Jin's end, the situation was proceeding as expected. In the monitor next to him, he was keeping in touch with social media.
Thousands of messages from passengers stuck in the airports around the world were flooding the platform, and seeing this, Jin sighed in relief. His task was done.
The mother monitor analysed the results, and the status of the third task changed to completed.
"All Tasks Completed. Test over,"
The following text was displayed on the huge screen.
It was 2:30 AM and Jin had successfully completed his test well before the timeline of 24 hours.
Brown took a deep breath and noted down the results on a piece of paper in his hand.
The next moment, Jin received 25K kill points for scoring 100/100 in the Cyber Operations test.
"Now only Close Quarter Combat is left for you. Since I'm tired, we'll do it tomorrow. Good night then."
Jin glanced at Specy, who had just been standing next to him like a statue all this while, and shook him awake.
"What are you dozimg off while standing for?" Jin asked.
"Man…you just single-handedly created a global outage! You expect me to just be normal after witnessing this absurdity? God, I would never want to be your enemy, I swear," Specy said with an impressed yet finding it hard to believe expression.
"What enemies? We are teammates. If you ever want my help in dealing with thiat company called Gior, just tell me," Jin suggested.
"You said it yourself. You better not take it back," Specy joked. He had no intention of seeking Jin's help.
The revenge was his to take, and he wanted to do it all by himself.
Jin chuckled at his reaction and understood that he was just joking.
Jin patted his shoulder and smiled, "I mean it."
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks," Specy too smiled back. Although he didn't plan to ask for his help, just knowing that Jin wanted to help was enough for him.
"Good night then," Jin turned around towards the door.
"You can just sleep here, you know," Specy suggested as he had been doing the same.
"It's more convenient for me there," Jin responded and left the room soon after.
"That's true," Specy softly muttered and took a workstation soon after.
After witnessing what Jin was capable of, all his sleepiness had gone away, and his desire to gain more proficiency in his computer skills was fueled.
