My Kitsune System

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Heightened hearing. This wasn't really a bad idea though Dan thought.

Dan knew definitely the system would have some perks as the little girl or Zenko said it was gift from the Goddess.

The thing was Dan wanted no part with the things of the divine. He just wanted to live a normal life. One without much stress and a little happiness the world could afford him.

Where were the gods when I needed them the most Dan sighed as he thought.

He sat down on the locker room bench and took up his phone.

He scrolled through till h reached his gallery. He opened up a folder which had a kind of private tag on it.

In that folder were a lot of pictures. They all were of one person. A young lady with bouncing curls. Her pupils very dark but beautiful. And in all the pictures she had a smile she wore all the time. And like a kind of hypnosis, Dan always smiled when he saw those pictures.

Dan's heart started to ache. He could feel his eyes begin to water up.

Hey, Elise how are you? Your smile is as beautiful as ever Dan thought.

I think I should pay you a visit later.

"Othniel!!!" Dan heard an angry voice call out to him.

Dan set aside his phone immediately as he tried to change into his soccer kit.

"Don't make me wait for you" Dan heard the angry voice speak again.

Dan stared as coach Collins walked out of the locker room and in to the field.

The man was average heighted and wasn't really built. He had a kind of a grown belly which sometimes protrude through his shirt.

He didn't really look like the stories he usually told the boys about how good he was….

How he played in a mini division….

How he almost made it into the big leagues….

But had to get a career change due to a career ending injury….

Coach Collins was kind of a role model for the boys….

As he made it clear that one shouldn't give up on his dreams….

And if the world has found a way to block your path… then….

Just look for another…

Dan got on the field to see the boys now jogging round. Dan was never really a regular player but he just comes here to while away time and make sure his parents aren't really worried about his lack of exercise and health.

He was part of the College teams reserve players. Dan never ever expected to play but instead he tried to be a little committed so as to not be kicked out. And also, not over committed so as to have time for other things.

As Dan had gotten and reached to where the other players where they were now actually done.

As he got there he was about to sneak in and join them to avoid the need to jug.

"Othniel" Dan heard coach Collins call out to him.

Dan turned slowly to face the coaches angry face.

"What do you think you are doing?"

"Sir I…I was" the words were finding it hard to come out of Dans mouth.

"You know what to do"

As Dan heard those words, Dan turned and started heading towards the tracks.

"I need you to run seven laps" the coach shouted from behind him.

Seven laps? Isn't… isn't that too extreme…. I really wasn't that late though. Dan thought as he got on the tracks and was ready to jug.

Dan had jugged four times round the tracks when he the exercise strains started to kick in.

Under his foot had started to burn.

He muscles had strain and also tighten.

He had also gasped for air. It was like the air he was breathing through his nose seemed not to be enough.

Dan had to open his mouth to breathe.

His mouth and throat had also started to get dry.

Dan had now finally been able to complete the whole seven laps. He left the track to finally come and meet the coach as he talked to the other players.

As Dan had reached them, he felt his muscles give away as he now fell down.

He just laid on the floor. All that was in his mind was how his muscles ached. How he wanted water to at least make his throat a bit wet.

But he knew he couldn't take any liquid till after the training session.

Ding!!!

He saw the system send him it was a notification. He didn't open it but he could read part of what it said quest completed it said.

What quest was that?

Dan didn't know which quest he had completed. All he knew was that he had decided to ignore the system in hopes that it would go. But then it seemed he was wrong about that.

It will not hurt to see which quest I had completed. Dan had thought to himself.

Dan then willed the notification to open like he always did.

And it did.

There was the message the system had sent to him.

Quest: Run for 3km. (Completed)

Reward: +2 to all physical related stats. (Apply effects).

So, I even have stats too. Huh I never knew.

Dan then willed for the stats to open and it did.

[Attributes]

 - Strength: 12 (+2)

- Speed: 11 (+2)

 - Agility: 15 (+2)

 - Intelligence: 14

- Spirit: 18

Dan looked at his stat, he wasn't really surprised with what he saw. He hadn't really expected much from the stats either way.

He just stared at the stat. The system asked him if he wanted to apply changes but then Dan's mind wasn't really on that.

But was on something else….

He knew what all his other stats meant but he wasn't sure what the spirit stat meant.

And as if to answer his question the system highlighted the spirit stat and brought up it's meaning.

Spirit: this is the host's ability to use and harness things of the divine. The higher the host spirit the stronger his connection to the divine. As of now the host can only understand little things of the divine. It also adds a significant boost to Host's ability (Spirit sight).

Spirit sight huh. What is that? Dan thought.

Immediately the system changed the overview to that of Dan's abilities. It now highlighted the Spirit sight ability.

Spirit sight: this allows the user to see divine beings. The stronger the host's ability to see higher beings. It also allows the user to see the flow of energy in living beings and things.

Spirit sight? Now that's something that really is bad, I think? Dan thought.

While Dan had sat down on the floor for a while. Coach Collins had already shared the team into a team of two. With second team trying to best the first team.

Dan was already used to it. So, he had just sat there by the side before he later got up and later left to seat with the others.

The game was going on well till it was not. A player on the second team had make a tackle.

The player had not only missed the ball and the player. But he ended up twisting his ankles.

His shouts and screams could be heard all round the field.

They all rushed to go see him.

Not only was the ankle twisted but also the place had also turned red. It didn't look like any normal injury as not only was the players face filled with agony. Tears could also be seen as they streamed down his face.

The whole field had turned kind of sober.

"All right that's enough of the sad faces" Coach Collins said

He then turned to look at those who were on the bench.

They had very few players on the bench. Just three to be precise.

It was Dan, a goal keeper and the last guy being a guy called Ryan.

Ryan was a person who always kept to himself and never said much.

The coach came closer to look at them.

Ryan was a striker, whilst the other player was a goalkeeper.

So, Coach Collins was left with only one option and that was Dan.

The coach called Dan to come in and play.

Wait what?

Dan turned to look around and noticed that he was the only who could play the center back position which was empty.

He was trying to opt out but he couldn't as there was no one else to play.

Dan could feel his heart begin to pound heavily against his chest.

He also began to lose control of his breathing. As he got on the pitch he began to feel his arm pit itch.

His palms started to turn sweaty.

Can I really do this? Dan asked himself.

Dan!!!!

Dan heard a shout. As he raised his head to look ahead. He noticed that the ball was rolling towards him. Not only was the ball heading for him but so were two other attackers

His heart started to beat even faster.

Kick the ball!!!

He could hear his team shout.

He then rushed the ball to kick it away.

He put in a lot of energy in his legs to kick the ball.

His went for the ball….

It approached the ball…

Dan was ready for the contact….

But then….

There was none… the ball had passed him and had gotten into the foot of the other striker who ended up scoring.

As this happened, he noticed the mockery on the opposite team… as they laughed at his miss. Coach Collins turned his eyes away to avoid eye contact with Dan.

His team mates on the hand were frustrated and pissed at him. But none spoke no words to him.

Dan could feel something rise inside him. It was wild, something that could not really be tamed.

But I didn't even ask to play…. I know I am not good…. But this…. I can't really let them just down on me. Dan thought to himself as he got into position ready to play the ball.

Ding!!!

He had received a new notification from the system.

What does it want this time.

Dan then decided to open it and check it out.

And then he saw the message it had sent.

New quest received

The quest was....

Quest: make sure your team doesn't lose.

Reward: additional +3 to all stats.

Bonus: become the man of the match.

Reward: Instant level up.
